Just like a condensed refresher on your course. Thank you. Been using my F8n Pro for over a year. Good to have a reminder of extra features I don’t use daily. Your course gave me the solid start I needed and I have not regretted either purchase for a minute.

Great session even for a Saturday! My original Mix Pre 3 is still doing just fine but I still enjoy learning about the later models. I will definitely go look at the Fairlight course updates. Have a great week!

You can change the Track names without the app in Metadata. One thing is you can’t actually hear the tracks if they aren’t armed even if you are prefader, it effectively turns them off too. It’s a bit of a downer because I have a talkback system that essentially has to be recorded ISO (I have the fader down so it doesn’t go in the mix). So far Post hasn’t complained since it is in a track called COMMS. I’ve used the F8n with the F Control and my Wisycoms MCR54 for a few films, commercials and other work. It’s a fantastic device, selling point to me over the Mix Pre series was that the slate mic can be used as a private line and have more outputs. I use the sub out for video village with Comteks, M1 going to a MTP40 for my boom op with a MPR50 IFB, M2 output on a different MTP40 for my utility. Definitely trying to upgrade to a Sound Devices 888 and the CL16 (though a mentor is trying to push me to a Scorpio). Thanks for everything Curtis, your channel is a huge help and this video will be sent to my utility if I can’t make it on set. I do have an issue with the F8n about how their folders are implemented that has caused one Post team a lot of grief 😅. But they put up with it because they said we were handing them some of the cleanest audio they’ve heard. So for sure you can get some awesome sound from this device!

I am have just got my Zoom F8n pro, so learning how to use it. With the fader buttons what i don't understand is you can go 'Positive', is this effectively like gain on the mix ?

First time i see curtiss say something wrong lol . The mixer mode is different u can select if the knobs control trim fader or pan, u select this with the main knob.. actually is the only mode that let u pan with out the controller or the app... Still curtiss is the best un tutorials on youtube 🙌

Hi Curtis, did you already talk anywhere about the different charging options of the F8n pro? I'm a bit lost with that and I can't decide which solution is best for me.

In my course we talk about it, yes. But the short answer is that I use the hirose input with a cine battery.

Another great video. Thanks. I bought an F8n Pro a few days ago actually, based largely on your previous coverage of the device. It's a fine machine, if a little unintuitive at first - rather too many options for "mixing" control that I'll probably never need, being a multitrack DAW user, and which adds a tad amount of confusion (fader, trim, level, gain...uhh... the knobs do what??? 😄). But you develop the intellectual muscle memory soon enough, and it's working out fine. One thing I did have to invest in were some third party caps for the knobs. Personal ergonomics. My fingers are too chunky for the little pots to be operated easily. Tricky. The Zoom F6 got that design aspect right. The caps are on order, so we'll see. Thanks again, and good luck with your projects!

Hi Curtis. When sending audio to a boomop or script supervisor with an ifb do you route them post or pre fader audio?

Hello Soundies, I currently don't own an F-series, but I've been thinking about it. I'm using sound devices 633, but I'm contemplating getting an F-series, Zoom, and an F-controller. I have a quick question: Can the Zoom and the controller be used together with the app, or do I have to choose between using the F-controller or the app? Any guidance would be appreciated as I make my decision.

Late but you can use both at the same time. I love the Zoom F8n and F Control so rarely use the app.

Hey Curtis, I recently bought the Fn8 pro and have now had my first use. I had on channel 1 the boom and on channel a lavalier. I had set the trim to +35db on both because the input signal was very low. After the recording I wanted to listen to it again and suddenly everything was totally overdriven. I got a fright and when I played it again on the computer, everything sounded normally controlled again. What exactly could be the reason for this? My headphone settings were both on postfade L/R. Dearest greetings and thank you very much!

its possible reduce noise room with zoom f8?
@curtisjudd
@curtisjudd Жыл бұрын
The F8 does not have a built-in noise reduction feature. You can look to the Sound Devices MixPre for that: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKSsi4N4rcmbnKc

12:01 pretty sure Curtis did switch from Fader mode into Trim mode... you can see the selector change.

40:00 yes, leaving these one does consume more power. While it may be negligible in the short term, even if it saves you 5-10 minutes over the course of a full day that's a savings nonetheless. As the unit is using any sort of assist, mix or noise, the electronics are doing more processing. Because physics, more load on the CPU means it needs more power. On the Zoom, leaving tracks armed but no mic or gain does draw power too - it is still recording an empty track. That extra file or channel on the poly again means more processing which means more power. Again, probably not much but can add up eventually.

50:05 you can name the tracks on the unit too - STOP + 2. I keep popping into that because I remember the F4 shortcut to scene name.
