Probably never if you life a basic life. The reason school teaches this is because things like this are required if we want to advance as species. If we simply never learn it because "we will never use it in everyday life" then everyone will become stupid and nobody will understand how the world works and we will never advance. We have the best cognitive thinking on the entire planet, yet so few want to use it lol. That is our reality.

how do you find the x or y intercept if you have only plot points? For instance (-7,8) (2,2). The x intercept is (5,0) but the y intercept is between 3 & 4, how do I figure out exactly where it is? What formula do I use?

Think of it like this. You're 14, you have the next 4 years in school to practice practice practice, then by the time you graduate high school, you'll be a pro at it and you'll be able to teach others how to do this stuff. But you have to start practicing now and don't stop. Keep learning it until it becomes second nature.
