mate, coupla zip ties pulled tight with pliers.. problem solved.

For a high end fitment, use the metal versions. 😅

Ive had vibrant hd's that wouldnt quit leaking in street cars. Owners decided to go to silicone hose, no more leaks. The hds are sometimes not very quick reconnect since you get to fiddle with 2 loose pipes and the internal ring before the clamp goes on

We used to use the split clamps for industrial steel pipes. These were called roll lock fittings and we used to swage the end if the pipe on site . I’m still surprised cam lock type fittings haven’t been introduced into motorsport or the ball and socket type used in farming for irrigation etc

How do upper/lower coolant hose diameter effect radiator flow? (i.e. -16an vs -20an vs oe sized silicone hoses)
@hpa1016 ай бұрын
We often hear different theories on this, as smaller diameter plumbing will generally mean faster flow. Some say you don't want the fluid to flow too fast as it won't allow heat to be transferred - but convective heat transfer is a function of flow rate with faster flow helping heat transfer. The problem is if the fluid is too fast and turbulent or causes cavitation or air bubbles which we really want to avoid. Probably the most important is the lower radiator hose that feeds the water pump suction side, this is usually larger than the upper hose because it is subject to vacuum and if it's too small it can collapse or the flow will be too fast and result in cavitation leading to vapour lock of the water pump - clearly not a good thing. Unfortunately there's no hard and fast rule. Usually the OE sized hoses and waternecks are suitable and shouldn't need to be questions. Motorsport style Electric waterpumps will typically be speced for -16 or -20 and we should use what the supplier recommends. - Connor

For those of us stuck with silicone couplers, is there a best option between worm gear, constant tension, and T-bolt clamps? They all have their weaknesses. Anything better?
@haydnpaull54476 ай бұрын
T-bolt clamps are the worst option. They leak boost. Best is BREEZE worm drive clamps supplied by Plazmaman. And Norma Torro worm drive for extreme clamping.
@hpa1016 ай бұрын
The issue with T-bolt clamps is the uneven distribution tension around the clamp - basically the area under the T-bolt is squeezed tighter than the area opposite it. T-bolt clamps are also a lot easier to overtighten and damage the pipe or coupler. Worm gear/constant tension clamps distribute the force better - just be sure to use the ones that have a smooth inner surfaces otherwise they can damage the coupler like a cheese grater. I personally like the "Murray clamp" style for a nice constant tension. Last point is be sure to Bead roll the end of your pipes! this makes a world of difference when using silicone couplers. - Connor

I'm unsure why no one talks about Alpha loc clamps

First time seeing these, they look like another great option. From what I can see they allow for slightly less angular misalignment that a Vibrant HD clamp but more than a wiggins. Although they look like they might be easier to assemble - Connor

I wouldn’t call them fast to install as they can be a pain in the ass to put together and i have even need a third hand to hold the bloody centre ring wail i put the clamp on. I try and talk customers out off them in most cases unless there running lots off boost.
@lrd22586 ай бұрын
I agree clam styles are a pain, the centre ring literally slides off when you attempt to put on the locking ring. Can wiggins clamps be used for intercooler hard pipes? or do we just all need to stick to silicone couplers for the flexibility and survivability :)
@hpa1016 ай бұрын
@@lrd2258 Wiggins clamps are a great option on intercooler pipes (although expensive)- just keep in mind how much movement you'll need between the engine and chassis mounted intercooler, this will depend on how soft your engine mounts are and so on. Check out this photo of the Under Suzuki's Scorch S15 (on of the fastest time attack cars ever) - In this case wiggins clamps are being used to provide some isolation for the DBW throttle as they can be tempremental with vibration: - Connor facebook.com/HPAcademy/photos/a.405908116167981/3349922311766532/?type=3

The thumb nail for this video smh. Clam shell clamp to hold a compressor inlet pipe. People do realise there's no pressure right? About as necessary as steel braided breather hoses.
@hpa1016 ай бұрын
Yes, people realise. For many builds it's just nice and tidy to follow the convention of the pressure side and you will see setups like this up and down pit lane, but YOU don't have to. You can use a rubber band and half a roll of packaging tape if you'd like to on your own build 😎 - Taz.
