@AB-80X7 жыл бұрын
Problem is not whether or not it could, because it can. What will be the limiting factor is the injectors. If the injectors will supply the fuel, it's most likely 2500+ capable on E85. It would most likely be 2500-3000 hp capable in a car application on C16. It's a marine engine and it's already quite reliable in a 1650 hp C16 application. it can make a hell of a lot more power in a car where it's not under a constant high load with a high cylinder pressures.

What kind of transaxle is being used? I'm not aware of anything available that will handle more than 650 lb/ft of torque. Looks cool, but I don't think the transaxle or axles will take the torque. There's a reason F1 engines turn at 24,000 rpm. It's to develop a lot of HP at much lower torque such that the transaxle can be physically much smaller.

It should perhaps be mentioned that in a powerboat application these engines can easily consume +100 gallons/h when going for it. Just build your gas tank large enough is what I'm saying.

And there’s never just one of these engines in a boat. Ever.
@MovieMuscle3 жыл бұрын
Your car rolls on a smooth surface, a boat pushes a very large and heavy object through water. The two loads are vastly different. Ever try to run in the water vs on land? Hence why boats consume far more fuel. It would consume far less in a car than in a boat. Also in a car we have multi speed transmissions, a boat does not. A car cruises in top gear with low rpm, a boat runs 3/4 throttle for it's regular cruising. On a highway we use almost no throttle to maintain a cruise speed. That being said a 1650 hp 9 liter motor will not sip fuel. Check out a Hellcat, at top speed it smokes it's fuel supply in minutes with just wind restriction and minor friction as it's load.

The tech today that makes an engine last longer is a centrifugal blower. You can still get lots of power but it spools a little slower and it's easier on parts. Perfect for boats. No heat like a turbo. Better for cars.
@98integraGSR5 жыл бұрын
You have no clue what you're talking about... Centri units don't "spool", much less "spool slower". They're actually HARDER on parts than a turbo, since they usually add a lot of lateral load to the crank snout, and finally, THEY STILL MAKE AN ASS-TON OF HEAT, BECAUSE COMPRESSING AIR ALSO HEATS IT, which is why pretty much every Procharger kit still comes with an intercooler. Also, what the fuck does any of what you said even remotely have to do with this video?

This thing does not run 200-300 hours in a marine application without rebuilds. The 1100 maybe, but not the race spec 1650.
@buck198 жыл бұрын
That's just race gas on the street cam. 1650hp is just a baseline. that engine is most likely capable of 2500hp in marine trim. remember, they're only at 20psi.
@AB-80X8 жыл бұрын
What? 1650 is not a baseline, it's the max power offered on this engine on race gas. And no, if the engine is capable of 1650 hp in a car, it is not capable of 2500 hp in a boat. When this engine was developed a few years ago, Mercury Racing raced a version dubbed Quadzilla with four turbos that had an output of 1750 hp and those things needed rebuilds after each race. Boat engines are under a lot more strain, run wot for much longer periods with higher cylinder pressure than car engines. There's a reason why see so few offshore engines above 1500 hp and the 2000hp car engines are all over the place. I've built both, and it takes a lot more to build a strong 1000 hp boat engine than a strong 1000 hp car engine. That's also why boat engines have a much shorter cycle between rebuilds. This exact engine has an output of 1350 hp in marine applications on 91 AKI fuel, 1650 is not a baseline in any way shape or form, it is what the engine is capable of.
@buck198 жыл бұрын
+ABOlsen69X I'm seein 2.4litres churn out 750whp ethanol and boosted down for regular street use. your telling me a 9 litre with unlimited funds cant achieve a better hp/ltr when it doesn't go thru the gear shock a street strip car gets. not to mention your IATs, EGTs, and oil temp are better in a marine application, consisting it's getting cooling from the body of water it floats in, meaning more oxygen for more fuel and less heat related stress. overheating at extended WOT should not be an issue, where as the street applications would see temps an easy 100° higher. ???
@buck198 жыл бұрын
+ABOlsen69X and I say the 1650 is a baseline cause that was at 20 psi pump gas...
@AB-80X8 жыл бұрын
Don't take this in an offensive way, but I think you need a basic understanding of what an offshore marine engine is, what it can and can't do to understand this and you don't have that. The way you describe things and compare them, has nothing to do with anything. In order to understand a high performance marine engine like the Merc 1650, you need to forget everything about car engines. There's a reason why a built 1400 hp whipple blown EFI marine engine is more expensive than a 2500 hp twin turbo EFI street engine. Everything needs to be overbuilt to an extreme degree, and yes, running WOT for long periods with high cylinder pressures is very tough on the engines. The ocean may provide a lot of water, but there are a limit to how much water you can flow through the cooling system without doing damage, so it's really a moot point. As for the 1650 having to run 112 AKI or higher,? Don't believe me? Why don't you ask Mercury racing or just have a look on their website? It's all there. If you really want to know about this stuff, I suggest that you become a member of the offshroeonly.com forum. Lots of nice people there, including many who run the Merc TT 1100's, 1350's and 1650's. There are great engine builders like Eddie Young, Bob Madera, Dustin Whipple and Tyson Garvin who are always up for answering questions. Have a good day.
