You don't necessarily have to buy 2. It really depends on how much interaction you can give a ferret if you only have 1. I only have Joey, but I am able to give him a lot of social interaction that he doesn't get depressed/lonely. If I weren't able to commit so much time to him, it would be better to have 2 so they could interact together. If you buy 2, its important to budget enough for any vet needs either of them may have. Ferrets can get expensive!

Joey is on Revolution. I got it from my vet's office because my vet has to calculate how many mls to give Joey each month. Its important to use some sort of heartworm/flea prevention such as this because mosquito bites are what can lead to heartworms. This is true for all pets! Keep in mind this does not repel mosquitoes, but it will prevent heartworms. Please consult your vet for other options.

Hmmm...you could try spraying Bitter Apple on the cables so when she tries to bite the cables next time she'll realize they taste nasty. After a few times of biting and getting that taste she should start biting at them less. Is your ferret young? Joey only did this when he was very young but grew out of it. They are sot of like puppies...they chew on stuff more when they're younger.
@KitsuneChloe10 жыл бұрын
If you have more than one ferret do you recommend walking them separately or can they walk together outside on leashes? One of my ferrets is too small for her petco harness, I have it tightened all the way and she still can manage to slip it off. Do you have any leash recommendations for small ferrets?
@TheTrainedFerret10 жыл бұрын
You can see if they have any rat leads. I know that sometimes they sell those and they might fit your baby better. I think its ok if you walk them both, just realize they will probably both go their separate ways and it might get a little chaotic :O)

There are different size harnesses so it will just depend on your ferret.I'm not sure where you live, but I got mine at a Petsmart. I think Petco's also carry them. If there aren't any in the ferret section they may be in the rabbit or small animal section bec they make them for those pets too. Those may fit your ferret. As for holding Joey, it takes a lot of practice&patience. It also helps if you do it once they've played. Joey still gets squirmy some and i'll put ferretone on my finger.

This is a very good point. Where I live I don't have to worry about wildlife/hunters as much but it is important to always pay attention to your surroundings. I go to a very small park where people don't usually bring their dogs. If there were dogs I would pick up Joey as they walk past. Safety is always of upmost importance so I'm glad you posted this.

As long as the temp was less than 80 degrees, then the hyperventilating wouldn't be caused by the heat so my only other guess would be stress or that the harness is still too tight. Its hard for me to say without seeing them. Try not to leave them when the harnesses are on in case they get them caught on something. Shivering means excitement or something they do when just waking up in my experience with ferrets. Joey will also poof his tail out like a pipe cleaner when excited or frightened.

petco. usually have quality ferrets.. just check em out first, make sure they are quite young. 4-8 months or so.. older ferrets in captivity tend to be a tad mean at first..then take them to a vet and check them out fully. You can look it up online on the american ferret site.

They might be able to get along but they must be supervised at all times. Depending on the dog's personality, it might be dangerous for the ferret. Also, ferrets do typically stay in a cage while the owner is away. Joey stays in his cage while I am at work or asleep. Otherwise, he is free to roam in the ferret proofed areas of my house.

There is no 100% guarantee. I would practice a lot in the house until you are comfortable with it and can see if they are able to get out of it. Once the ferret become more used to the leash/harness the less they will fight it. If you aren't sure or are not comfortable then just don t do it. I take Joey to pet stores about an hour before they close because they are much less crowded. That might be a better option so if they do get off leash they are still inside.

when your ferret bites show him that you are hurt and then he will learn that he hurts you when he bites, and show him a lot of attention and love, never hold him up on the air put him close to your chest so he knows he is secure and won't fall because you have and and he'll know to trust you more and always keep his cage open at all time but when he is bad put him in the cage for no longer than 2 minutes and bring him out and hug him so he know that he is out of punishment and let him explore the whole house, I hope this helps even though I'm late

I have heard that cats and ferrets can get along. I do not have any personal experience with this, but have heard that for the most part cats become pretty indifferent to ferrets after a while. Of course, all cats and ferrets have different personalities so its hard to say. Since ferrets are predators (eat meat and used to be used to hunt rabbits), its important to not integrate them with pets such as birds, rabbits, or rodents.

I would not put a ferret and a rabbit together. A ferret is a predator and a rabbit is a prey animal so there is potential that the ferret might hurt the rabbit. In some countries ferrets are actually used to hunt rabbits! I personally would not even own the two in the same house just to be safe.

Basil MacVae In the winter I can still take him to pet friendly pet shops that don't have ferrets to walk on his leash. I had a friend of a friend make my cage stuff. When picking out things for the cage just keep safety in mind first. I dont get anything with a lot of fuzz that they could possibly pull apart and ingest. No toys with the hard plastic eyes and noses for the same reason. Joey likes stuffed animals and cat toy wands to chase.

Hi, I am thinking about rehoming a ferret for a friend that bit off more than they can chew. I have had one before, but it was a short-lived experience. So now I am trying to do more research before I decide to rehome or not. How could I keep fleas and ticks from attaching to my ferret if I wanted to go on walks in the future? Before, when I tried, the ferret was okay with me putting on the harness and going out. But as soon as he hit the bushes, I noticed it looked like black dots on him. He was an albino ferret, so I immediately thought, " these are fleas." So, I went out and purchased flea stuff, would give him a bath, comb them out, and then put on a preventative spray before we would go out. But every time we would go out (stopped after three times) he would get the fleas again. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
