I am one of those people with metal allergies. It truly sucks because there are so many beautiful things I would love to make and wear but I simply can't wear it. Thanks to you and people like you I can make my own beautiful jewelry that won't harm me or my skin. Thank you to you and everyone else like you that are willing to share their talent with the world. I love you all and God bless each and every one of you!!!!

I’ve taught myself everything for my jewelry-making business by watching tutorials and reading up on silversmithing techniques. I’m always looking for additional materials (leather) to offer and mix it up a bit and I must say you are by FAR the best teacher I’ve ever watched. You’re intelligent, gorgeous, kind, funny, charming, thorough and very talented. Thank you so much, Yvonne. ♥️Lauren

When I was younger my grandfather on my mom's side of the family taught me about leatherworking. He told me a bunch of helpful tips, one of which is using canning wax, candle wax or crayons ( in a pinch) to burnish cordage before implimenting the lacing process. He also said " saddle stitches work best for maximum hold, baseball stitch is a close second. Use a maratine half hitch stitch ( as pictured above in video) for a secure decorative edge, and a whip stitch for emergency repairs.". His last point he said " Whatever you do, take care of your leather working needles. They are hard to find, harder still even to make, and fragile. Coat them with wax or mineral oil to stop them from rusting, and place them in a good needle case.". So now, to this day I burnish my cordage before use, mind my stitches ( when I make viking weave/ hitched bottle covers and hitched rope work covers), and always have a set of two marline spikes that act as my needle cases ( for my paracord, tapestry/ yarn needles and leatherworking needles) in my e.d.c. gear kit.

Have you ever tried a little spot of Barg cement right at the end before you pull the loose end through? You don't wait till it tacks up, let it set in the final position. I have used it that way and it seems to hold, plus the cement is on the inside of the lace. I do knife sheaths and custom leather goods. Might be useful

In terms of ropework that lacing style is called Ringbolt Hitch and was used to provide padding to any metal ring that would bruise the surrounding woodwork.

Thank you so much for all of your tutorials. I have learned a lot about crafting in various mediums from you. I'm starting to get into leatherwork and of course your tutorials are always so well thought out and explained. So comment is partly to feed the algorithm and partly to say thank you for years of tutorial and passion for crafting and inspiring the rest of us to be passionate about crafting.

Instead of trying to keep it lined up with the pins it is much easier to put the two pieces together with some rubber cement before making your holes. It keeps it lined up and you can do both layers together. After you get to the halfway point of lacing you can open it and slip your stone in.

This is something I have wanted to learn to do for as long as I can remember ~ and I've tried more than once, from books, etc, but never could get the hang of it. =( Being able to actually watch someone do it makes a world of difference! Two thumbs up!

Hi Yvonne, I like this video and your other leatherworking videos you have. Even though I don't usually use lace in my projects @ 19:57 Al Stohlmans Leatherwork manual calls this the "single loop" stitch, beacause as the name imply's there are other stiches with multiple loops and this one only has one. Just thought that I would put that out there.

Thanks Yvonne for sharing this, i was just looking for ideas, as my neighbour asked me to remove leather off new large footstool to put onto the smaller old one they have......but there is alot of scrap, and altho im vegan, i HATE waste and especially leather been thrown away, when it can be re-used as so durable....i think im gunna need a few tools...as i reckon when you have the right tools...it will be more enjoyable !!!i'll check out your other posts :) x

Hello Yvonne According to the Raymond Cherry book (from 1955) titled "General Leathercraft", on Pg. 53 It says the lacing that you're doing is referred to as a "single buttonhole" stitch. That book was used in school art classes as a "text book" for the students and as a handbook for the school systems when ordering tools and supplies. I hope that helped somehow? Not the biggest fan of the actual pendant idea! But your technique or style for explaining this technique of edge lacing is probably one of the best I've seen so far. Way less patronising and way more informative on actually making an item and seeing it through to completion, without jump cuts (wailing dogs excluded). Keep up the videos and dont give up creating things.

I enjoy your videos. My medium is leather carving, but my dad was a carpenter and I am a jack of all trades. Last year I made several leather pendants but a bit different. I make the back with a little thicker leather than the front and glue in the stone. For the lacing I prefer using the Mexican round braid. The glue keeps the stone from slipping and the fancy lacing gives a massive "oh wow factor". Tell me what you think. G.
