Thanks for the great, simple information. I always wondered why i struggled with these. I'm left handed and am always using my left hand to push the tool. Now i know why it always worked like crap for me. Now i have to learn how to actually use it with my right hand. Thanks

Thank you, and great info. I just realized a few days ago, the reason I couldn't make any progress was because it's not designed for lefties. Going to bend mine up right now.

Great tip, bending mine now, it was never what I really wanted in a quick skiver. This tip seems like it will make it the tool I hoped it would be.

Appreciate this. May seem insignificant to some but the detailed information like it being right handed and the tune up is a great help. I guess I will have to go back to the city dump and try to find mine. Thank you for your help.

im left handed and use one of these by pushing it forward instead of pulling it towards me. works just as well but you have to take twice the amount of time and be a bit more delicate

I have one made up for my left-handedness...a friend cut the blade end off and braised to the other end...have had it since 98...I use the right handed one for groundseats, holding them basically like a spoke shave for that work...

Great tip!! Thanks 😊 I'll buy a couple more and bend them differently, so I can choose between them depending on what I'm doing.😊

This was super helpful. I just watched a Springfield leather video And they said just skive away from yourself if you're using it left handed.

After watching this a couple times and trying to get it bent right i took the round plate from my arbor press; its the right radius to couture the skife; then I found if you hold the edge that holds the blade over the edge of the plate, and tap it down to set the angel of the blade . works nicely...

great video. i recently bought one and was looking for a good video on how to set it up and use it. when you say athletic tape, are you talking about that kt tape like bowlers use on their wrist? or the tape that tennis players wrap around their racquet handle? maybe it is the same thing, im not sure. lol

My new blades seem a lot duller than what yours looked like. I usually strop them by hand (difficult) to make 'em scary sharp like yours. What brand is yours?

Thanks. I was looking for a tool to skive upholstery leather so I it will work in for making buttons. Alot of upholstery leather or certain parts of he hide is too thick for my button molds to work. Any brand of skiver you like better?

I get my injector blades from Razor Blade Company, in a box of 1,000. I think they're about $93 bucks for the uncoated blades (works out to about $0.09 per blade), and shipping is about $10 bucks.
