I didn't even see myself ever using an apron. But now Magnets!! I want one... thanks Jay

Your comment about "muscle memory" is spot on. After decades, my right hand wants to reach up to my ear to grab my pencil. I can't imagine putting a pencil anywhere other than behind my ear. But I do like the idea of an apron, and I will definitely check them out. Thanks for the video (even though it's relatively old now).

Hey Jay, I,ve been watching your videos for about 5 years and never commented, but thought I would just comment about how great your content is and this one with the shop apron is very informative as I am shopping for an apron, thanks.

Jay I love the idea of magnets on the apron for screws and squares! We all know that convenience makes the job go quicker. Just a side note that senior woodworkers (not me) who may have a pacemaker should not keep magnets near their chest. More or less just a safety tip if one were to do that without thinking about the risk. That is one fine apron! I’ll have to give my Santa a hint.

Hello, we do mention to makers during the video fitting about that very issue.

@@leatherbydragonfly Glad that you had it covered. I always feel that it’s better to bring awareness whenever possible. I have been on many safety committees in my career and sometimes have learned the hard way. It doesn’t mean you can’t place magnets slightly lower. Great product!

Leather by Dragonfly has some pretty cool aprons. When you order from Canada, after conversion, it costs about $1200. Maybe one day.

My lower pockets do tend to catch sawdust... but I am used to dropping my tape measure in the low pocket. Hmmm.

For our custom line of leather workplace is to have flaps placed over the pockets. We can do that.

For a long time I've wished to see a survey of woodworkers who do v. do not use an apron. I suppose most turners do? Me, I've tried several over the last few years but just can't seem to find one that I like AND getting in the habit of actually wearing it.
@leatherbydragonfly3 жыл бұрын
But what if you could take all the things you don't like and put-on, where you want them, all the things you do? And the length you want, a special pocket for you 6" ruler, right or left-handed? We have never made two of the same apron.

Jay Have you ever (ever ever) dropped the combo square with the magnetic hold? I would really worry about that, but if it's stuck there with the magnets I'm definitely considering this.

Do your pencils or pens fall out when you lean over? The square stays out? I think id want something for a sprint punch too

The pencil pockets are sewn tight. Leather does stretch, that said, I've been wearing my apron for 5 years and never had an issue.

I always wondered - why do professional woodworkers wear leather apron? Is it just to protect your clothes from stains or does it count as protection in case of kickback?
@leatherbydragonfly3 жыл бұрын
Yes and Yes. What we believe the apron does do is keep your core set of tools at arm's reach. I always remind our clients of the added benefits of protection and cleanliness. I have experienced a kickback situation while wearing my apron and was left unscathed.

I like wearing an apron for the convenience of having tools right at hand, but the problem I have is when it is hot outside, it gets really hot under the apron. In these situations I just don't wear it, and end up loading my pants pockets. How does everyone deal with this?
