Somebody pissed in his Kool aid. It's the same tools on every Leatherman if he hated them before he shouldn't have coughed up $300 for the arc. I love it. Dam near every choice is good for me but we all have different preferences and that is why they have different options.

I was skeptical about getting the arc because I modified my ST300 but I ended up getting the arc as a gift. So far it’s been good to me and I’m starting to really appreciate it. I did replace the wire cutters with my old wave cutters first thing and it works fine. I’ve had it for a couple months now and have hard used it some but it’s held up fine. I thought the flex was gonna be an issue but it was unscrewing recessed full size deck screws out of my deck flawlessly. I like it so much now that I’m buying stuff off zapwizard for it. I’m sorry you’re having all these problems with yours but I haven’t had any

I use my ARC everyday as a medical equipment repair technician. It has not let me down. Extremely happy with the tool selection and use. Probably use this tool 90% more than my actual tool kit.

@@SMS2884 you obviously don't own an Arc or probably any multitool. The steel on the Arc is so soft that it's nearly impossible to sharpen. All my Magnacut blades that have been properly heat treated sharpen up in nothing flat

@dualsportoutdoors I own a few. Wave, Surge, P4, ARC. I also have like 2 budget brands. I own about 60 knives and about 20 get used constantly. Learning how to sharpen correctly takes time. Just because someone doesn't experience what you do, doesn't mean they haven't done something. If you're not the majority, it usually means you're just wrong.

I could tell that sheath would not last out of the box I even told people that in my reviews so I updated mine with a custom one made by a guy on Etsy. Which allows me to carry both bit systems. As for sharpening what are you using to sharpen with? I use Sharpton stones to sharpen with. It is a hard steal so you have to use Sharpton or a good diamond stone. I also bought custom wire cutters Damascus Steel for 40.00 off Amazon. Then I picked up 2 screws off eBay so those 2 holes would not be open. As for the play your having I have not got that yet. I will make a video if mine do that.

@@SurvivalSavvvy I do my sharpening on a Worksharp field sharpener. Even my custom knife with 64 HRC Magnacut tunes right up on it. The Arcs are claimed to be in the 58-60 range from what I've heard but given how they sharpen, I'd be willing to bet they're colser to 55

@@dualsportoutdoors That sharpener is more of a touch-up sharpener. When you used it you probably wrecked the blade. Most likely need to reprofile it. I have a video that says "How to sharpen your leatherman" Where I show you proper stones. Please do not hate me. :) That work sharp the strop on it is horrible and the ceramic gets dirty. Like you said in the video you spend $300.00 and you're sharpening with a touch up. DMT is another go company for sharpening. I would stop using that sharpener and search KZbin on knife sharpening and learn form the 10-year-old videos which are the masters.

@SurvivalSavvvy I don't use the guides usually. It hasn't done any damage to any of my blades so far since I just use the diamond plates and ceramic rod. I do clean it up after every few uses too. I've been looking at the Fallkniven DC series of stones as an alternative sharpening system. Whatever I go with needs to be compact enough to fit with all my other gear in my bike's luggage on a longer ride and in my pocket when I'm on an extended trek in the woods

I bought a brand new Arc. Took it out of the box, brought it to work the next morning. Pulled out a super thin metal filter from an oven (mind you, this could be done with my fingernail, just couldnt reach it) As soon as i applied the slightest pressure the plier snapped in half. Called leatherman and they said "must of have a fracture from the cast" This was a month ago, still waiting on my refund. (They recieved the tool back Dec. 23rd)

I have the original arc and love it. I've stress tested and use all of the tools on mine to make sure it can do what i need it to do, and they all work fine, even the wire cutters. Sorry that yours seems to have so many defects. The fact that it has happened to you twice sucks even more. Sure wish you could love it like I love mine.

I wish so too. I wanted so badly to love it. I'm gonna give it 6 months or so and try another one and see if they get the QC under control. That's what happened with the Gerber Center-Drive. I got one when they were first released and the spring in the plier failed in my first use so I warrantied it and the new one's nail puller bent when I pulled a small nail out of particle board so I got rid of the tool, waited a while, got a new one, and it was good. I had a similar experience with the Benchmade Adamas too. The first one cut like a baseball bat because somehow it slipped past QC with horrible edge geometry. My new one cuts like a demon

I'm gonna have to agree with ninety percent of what you said..... had mine 3 weeks and I took it out of the box, decided to slice some copy paper, and I was absolutely shocked that it was dull super dull. I have never had multi tool out of the box like that... A lot of other issues, but you touch on all of them, i'm thinking it must be leatherman, cutting corners.

I think the issues they have had with the wire cutters are totally unacceptable, especially for a tool this expensive and knowing that they were just perfect before on both my wave and surge. But I definitely have not felt any need to sharpen the knife every day and that sounds like an unusual criticism as the magnacut has held up way better than the 420hc on my other leathermans. The scissors do require that extra little push when deploying, and again, for a tool this pricy, you would think they could have made that smoother, but I’m pretty sure my surge behaves the same way. Never had any trouble with the magnets separating when deploying tools, but the inside tools have had some rust. It is very humid environment with salty air and my wave has the same issue when I have been carrying it on my pocket. I do think the price is ridiculous, but the toolset is literally perfect for me and I really love that everything is one hand accessible, which has been a noticeable improvement on the wave/surge style tools I have always loved. I basically never used the serrated blade on those, so having the larger scissors has been great and honestly the small scissors on the wave are way more annoying to deploy. It’s a lot of money and I understand why people would just not even consider it, but ultimately it is a great multitool

Finally decided to pull the trigger on the Arc, had it for a few weeks, cant say im too disappointed with it, previously owned a Gerber MP600 and I will say its a million times better. I only paid $160 for mine so I cant complain, will be posting an update after extended hard use

Idk, I have a original arc, it's handy, I haven't had the cutter issues with it at all, original set and it cuts wires fine. I totally agree with the Magnacut....thick as hell edge geometry so it takes a crap edge and holds it forever.

I suspect I am a certifiable Leatherman fan. Currently I own eight or nine of their designs including the ARC, the Free P4, the Knifeless Rebar, the MUT and the list goes on. Frankly, I have been very pleased with each and every one of them, as not one of those tools has ever failed me. However, I do wish Leatherman had stuck with their original sheath design. Nuff said.

Neither. The heat treat is too soft. I have Magnacut knives with proper heat treats that I can tune up in nothing flat. Soft heat treat results in hard sharpening regardless of steel

@@stevemuzak8526 I used the one in the pic daily for a month. I also clean my tools after every use (a habit I picked up from my grandpa). That coating cleaned up nice. I'll give it that much. I had it sold at the time of the video so I cleaned it up for shipping before filming. My first one was also used daily until I sold it (I had it before the channel came to mind). I might buy another one down the road and give it another shot but the two I've had in the last year BOTH had all the same problems. Maybe you got lucky. That or you haven't experienced the true potential of Magnacut. Glad yours has served you well though.

Oh, I'm really sorry for you. I don't have the obsidian, just the reguar arc, bought about one year ago. The only issue I have is the flex on the handles, wich also scares me sometimes 😅 but never gone far. My blade came out of the box very sharp, and it holds it's edge very decently, far better than the 420HC of the wave. Its also much difficult to sharpen, true. Scissors deploy nicely and always at first movement. I don't cut hard wire, so don't know about the cutters. It's a tool I really appreciate, overall. ¿Maybe your's is defective? Considered sens it back to replacement?

Definitely agree about the sheath. I had a similar one with my Supertool 300, and it did not last very long before it came apart. Replaced it with a heavy duty sheath from American Benchcraft, and it's been good to go👍Thanks for your thoughts on the Arc, the price on that one is a bit out of my usual ballpark. But nice to hear the shortcomings so I don't end up saving for one and being disappointed with it. Cheers, buddy!

Thanks for sharing. Personally I have stayed away from the Arc. As a fan of the charge and surge In particular, I like the easily accessible outer opening full tool set. However, as opposed to the surge, I do not like the absence of a serrated blade, the shorter blade and smaller scissors. I did not realise the extent of all the functional issues above and beyond what I see in my opinion, as design flaws. That was an interesting video you share, so thanks again for that! Gutted that you must have brought a second Arc, hoping that your first may have been a defective unit? Only to realise an issue with the model itself?! It is such a shame that Leatherman seems to first have been slow to improve, and now it seems, lending the Leatherman name to sub par excellence for the atcual premium price point. Why do you think they have gone in this direction rather than truly living up to "the best" name in multitools? Cheers.

The pliers are made in Mexico of cheap inferior steel, seen many of them break from light use. The tools often snap under routine use as well. Victorinox is far better quality. The ARC is way overpriced.

Anyone claiming the Arc is good doesn't do anything with their tools that could even be considered use in my eyes. I live on a ranch, work in the automotive industry, and do outdoorsy stuff. My multitools see REAL work every day and I can tell you from having owned two Arcs that they can't handle anything harder than an office job where they open envelopes and use the pliers to unjam a stapler

Far from a complaint. Also, pointing out very obvios flaws in a tool is not complaining. I tested the tool and it failed. This video is to explain WHY it failed.
