What happened to the pliers? Do the tips of the pliers not converge properly? Is there a backlash in the pliers hinge?

Oh wow the pliers aren't even lined up evenly at the tip. Even after abuse it should never do that. If it's brand new then wow. Leatherman isn't really Leatherman anymore. Idk how many versions or revises they gotta do to make a multitool. Rather put my money into another actually 100% made in usa multitool from another company. And not some overpriced 70% made in usa multitool that will scratch when you just open and close it. You don't see that happen with a victorinox
