I haven’t yet, caught some of Dominic’s videos on it though. I need to get one ordered. It’s definitely interesting, and modular design is something people have been asking other companies to implement for a long time. Eventually I’ll get one.

Thanks for making this video. I had another multitool with the same spring loaded mechanism that I had taken apart at one time and I was not able to put it back together. After watching this I made it work using string (truth in advertising, I broke the string three times before I got this to work. And there were clamps and a vice involved in putting the tool together.

Patiently awaiting your take on the Arc. I’ll probably get one, but it’s similar to the Free. I personally don’t care for the unergonomic handles of the Free and bit exchangers aren’t my preferred driver. It’s tough to top the Spirit.

I've already disassembled everything else on mine to swap some Free P4 handles and blade onto it so I can carry it without worrying about the Ceracoat. I would have gotten around to opening the pliers out of curiosity, but I'm glad I don't have to now. Springs often turn out to be more tricky to reassemble than you think. It looks just like I thought it would though.

@mingshey

@petermoore9504 Well I think the handle pivot area is raised higher above the center pivot plane and will get in the way. I think they will use a specialized gadget for the assembly in the factory.

Just an idea - maybe it would be easier to remove a handle from one of the plier halves? Or is it the metal bits on the actual plier heads that make it impossible to align the spring in wide open position?

I'm totally new to multi tools having always dismissed them as gimmicky. Between discovering your videos and a changing work situation Ive made the decision that having one is going to be necessary. Do you know of any retailers that let you handle the tools before purchase? I have a fairly good idea of what I want but it'd be really nice to get a hands on before buying. Thanks for any suggestions. Also, have you gotten your hands on an arc yet? I think it's going to be cost prohibitive for me but it's a very intriguing tool. Thanks for your informative and well put together videos!

It’s way easier to get bac together with the handle off on one side or both. That way you can just line up the slots with out the spring it under tension and the use the plier heads to twist it in place while pinching it together with the screw already in once the screw pops down it’s locked in keep in held together then put the nut back on and then your handles. Taking off both handles is easier then just one but neither is hard

The significant thing taking strength away from the pliers is the removable wire cutter. They'd be much better using a decent material for the pliers and doing away with the replaceable cutter. It's solving a "not really a" problem and causing others - it is much easier to cut things with the non-replaceable ones and the entire assembly is more robust.

Hey Ben. Before or after you diassembled your 005 plier head, did and do your frames close all the way at the plier end? Mine will if I squeeze them. Only springs open about a 1/16” or so, maybe less but it bugs me. Reckon the pivot is to tight from LM directly? I thought tightnen, but feels like it’s bottomed out and the spring action is pretty considerable! Please help!! Thanks, Tommy

Leatherman is so behind I am glad they are adding things like spring loaded pliers. Their competition have had them for ages. Now if they can offer the enhanced knife steels while keeping prices under control they could claw their way back on top. Right now I think the chinese have them beat on features and innovation along with demolishing them on price. The chinese have even made strides on making quality tools. Modularity is also a place leatherman isn't great at. I look forward to them rising to meet their numerous competition.

I really cannot understand why they don't put springs on all of their pliers, I mean even the no brand ones from local hardware stores have them, they may juste be tiny coil springs but at least it's there. Well on this model the spring seems more reliable and not that complex to build so why don't they add it to all of their high end models ?
