Broke down and got the Bibury Surge Clone with the add on kit. It was $58 as a bundle at the Bezos store. The Bibury is nice. A little stiffer out of the box than my Surge, but not stiff in the absolute sense. QC seems good. The scissors are significantly better than the Surge. I find that incredible. The Bibury fits four inner tools in the space that the Surge fits 3, and as a result the Surge's tools on that side are just a tad thicker. Like going from a 91mm SAK to a 93mm Alox. If found that the only tools in the add on kit that were compatible out of the box with my Surge were the black (wood) and white (metal) t-shank saws. The Bibury diamond file, scalpel blades and extra long silver saw don't fit the Surge and would need to be modified to do so. I don't know if the spare cutters would fit the Surge. I came away impressed with the regular Bibury Pro which includes a bit kit, saws, spare cutters and pouch with storage for all of the above. It's a pretty complete kit for $38. Do you really need the longer saws, scalpel blades, spare diamond file, more spare wire cutters and glass breaker bit for $20 more in the bundle? I'd say yes, if you plan to use the tool frequently or need the scalpel blade for your activities or you camp a lot and need a longer saw. If it's just going in the car as a back up tool, I'd suggest just sticking with the regular package.

I have the other Bibury im more then happy with it. I've had many leathermans. They used to be more affordable. The last one i bought was the crunch. I still have the soft bits. I believe leatherman isn't what everyone claims. The Bibury is my first multi tool in a long time. I can't find anything wrong with it. Its as good as leathermans and better with 1/4 driver plus 7cr is better then 420hc so in theory the blade should be better. I would probably still use leatherman if they weren't so expensive. The warranty was never worth the hassle. If something fails doing what its designed for i don't want another one i want a better design! Maybe im different then most but being a mechanic tools are my livelihood! I recommend get a bit set from wiha best bits ive ever found.

Some 35 years ago I had two Leatherman tools at different times. I don't remember the model of them but neither lasted me a year. Then I got the Gerber but it pinched me so often I gave up on Gerber. I used a Winchester for a while but the tools didn't lock and the knife was not easy to use. Some 25-30 years I paid about $120 for a Victorinox Swiss Tool X. It is finally worn out. After a few days of research and looing in a couple of stores I've settled on this Bibury. I looks like it has the weight and size and tool selection I'm looking for. I like the looks of the Leatherman Super Tool but it doesn't have scissors. I use scissors a lot.

@@waygone6657 there is a bibury that has large scissors on the outside tool. I believe it's the 29-1. It is the model the file comes off. I'm a fan so far bibury has been much better then my older leathermans. I don't understand why so many are fans of them.

I got the cheaper but driver version with non replaceable saw, less bits etc, served me well enough for some home improvement jobs, plier steel is soft thought, they got marred up quickly

I bought the cheaper version, but there was no beating, the knife was sharpened well, and I was very satisfied except for the 25 year warranty, even compared to my charge TTI +, Surge

I have gotten a few Wave and now this Surge clone and the reason why yours holds onto regular bits, you have a defective hex. My Ozark Trail Multiforce has the same defect. I actually like it. My Surge clone sadly has a clean cut hex and bits fall out. After long use, my Multiforce defect eventually stopped holding onto bits, but I put a few magnets in it and I just use regular 1/4 bits now. I will probably do the same with my Surge clone and I will probably grind the 2 knife blades down to 3 inches, so if a cop happens to check it, I won't have any trouble. I definitely agree with you, I wish more multitools had T Shank holders. Being able to remove the file to sharpen the blades is amazing. The wire cutters puts Leatherman's new wire cutters to shame. My T shank holder sometimes opens when I open or close it. That's my only problem with this Surge clone.

As you said: quality is close enough. Difference is visible a specialy in file and knife sharpening quality, mainly because steel used for file and knife in favore of Latherman. Bad quality wire cutters becomes legendary in Lathermann"s case.

Got mine but the locking mechanism on the blade doesn't engage unless you apply lots of pressure backwards when opening the blade and then it doesn't look fully engaged so not the best quality control which I guess is reflected in the price.

What are the shims for on with the replacement wire cutters ? Do you have to put them on or is it for cutting thicker wire or something?
@jspr_edc4 ай бұрын
@@Mrleejunman i dont know to be honest... probably just spacers

@@jspr_edc stumped me , if you put them on it separates the cutting faces of the wire cutters but I don't know why that would be of benefit .They don't come with shims already on ,you just get a couple in the extras bag . I'll have to do a bit of experimenting with them . Thanks for your reply tho 👍

my birbury (same that in the video but black coated) is so stiff,i can barely open ANY of the 4 tools with one hand as how hard it is,the cisors springs activates before the lock leaving it to badly locks 50%of the time and the file is a real hassle to get out(i mean to deploy it not gt it out the shank adapter) and the set of scre-drivers were stuck in their case to the point were i sliced myself pushing hard on the flat head screw driver trying to get it out... i sent it back to amazon,was it just a bad unit ? or is it really stiff and that man is a god ?

From what I can tell blade thickness on the cutting implements are the only thing these Hangzhou GreatStar Industrial Co are lacking in. Workmanship on all these clones seems to be on par with Leatherman. Steel quality I wouldn’t think is a problem for non professional use.

Don't try to tighten the pivot screws even if the tools are all floppy and you risk getting cut...cheap Chinese screw heads twist right off. Mine had loose tools right out the box and I ruined the thing immediately. Waiting for new screws to arrive now.
