Wouldn’t blacking them out defeat the purpose of reflectix? It’s not real insulation. It’s meant to keep radiant heat out. Blacking it out attracts heat.

Thanks for that. Got inspired by your video and made some for my van. Used $4.50 reflectix car sunshade from kmart. Used the magnets tapes. Used black shower curtain light fabrick. Used a stapler and gaffa tape to hold to put everything together as i dont have a sweing machine. Very cheap and nice solution. cheers!

Great tips on which way to use the Reflectix. If you sew the materials together in straight horizontal lines you don't need glue and they they fold along the lines nicely for storage, or for folding part of the shade up or down on the window too. Also better to make them a bit bigger so they sit away from the glass to have an air gap to stop them getting damp from any condensation on the glass.

This is just so awesome and I been looking for some that were made easily. I also found the one's for over a thousand dollars, I seen the price and said to myself nope I will make my own. And this morning I was drinking my coffee and surfing utube and there you were. Thank you

I just made these for my car. The larger and squarer the window is the easier they are to do. I didn't want to trouble my mom by sewing my window inserts so I chose the tedious way of using gorillaglue.

If you wan’t more insulation put a layer of Thinsulate between and sew horisontal seams with about 3” distance.

Hello and thanks 4 the post. I bought an entire set by C something covers less than 6 months ago (500+) and they r filling apart. Good news: I havdd Ed s template😀👍I have the 2019 Ram Promaster and I get a lot of condensation, I’m in it full time. How has your window covers been with condensation? Thank you. MaryAnn

Going to get the fabric today at hobby lobby. Not sure if anyone has asked this question but I was wondering if it would be better to just have the reflectics material on the outside like a car window shield. Or if it doesn’t matter because it’s a type of insulation.

Hi Anna & James. I'm exited to start this project! Thanks for the tutorial. Short question: how thick is the Reflectix material you used? They don't sell this specific brand where I live, so I'm trying to figure out what the alternatives are :) Thanks!

That's a great way to do it. Unfortunately, my Kia has a plastic interior, and I'm not willing to mess it up.

Question: does the reflectix still keep thing warm/cool when it's covered with fabric? How do the covers do with condensation? Thanks! Great project.
@jphunter49433 жыл бұрын
No, the reflectix offers no real R value when covered. It does provide the right structural support.

You did such a great job making the blackout curtains can I just purchase them from you do you have any for sale?

Thanks so much!! Unfortunately we do not sell them or make them ourselves, but definitely something we’d think about in the future! Good luck with making them though :)

When youre sewing the bias tape, youre sewing through all the layer, including the reflectix correct? I'm a noob sewer so I can see myself having some tension issues with my old machine. Thanks in advance! I love this design
@krishanshivakaur44983 жыл бұрын
I was wondering this too? Did you just sew the bias tape onto the edges of the two pieces of material, or did you sew through the reflectix too? I would be sewing by hand so not going through the reflectix would definitely be easier 😊

I just bought some custom made for 8 windows, 3 layers of thickness. Silver oneside, black on the other. Rot proof fabric. Sewn taped edges. Amazing suckers to secure. All for $150. One day delivery. Supplied in carrying case.. Not worth the effort fannying about tripping to Walmart or whatever.. Work smart not hard!. Thank goodness for China.
