In todays video we jump in the Hurrlimann while there is some frost on the ground and we can travel. See how it copes against the Case Luxxum.... What do you think? Will the case use more fuel? or the Hurrlimann?

Tom, that was most definitely a worthwhile experiment and it was also quite interesting to see the result, as far as your Hurliman tractor 🚜 goes and with not damaging the grassland it’s probably a combination of the hard frost and the bigger wider tyres that had the right low ground pressure so as to not dig into the sod and make a mess of it.

I went from using a 110hp tractor 4 cylinder over to 125hp 6 cylinders. Little bit bigger fuel tank on the bigger one but still when I went slurrying I went from 3 full fuel tanks down to 1 and a half. The 6 cylinder engine just didn't struggle as much when it came to hills or uneven areas where the smaller 4 cylinder one was always drinking alot of fuel to keep up the power. That was a 2000 gallon tank. Now I got a 3000 gallon tank and a 200hp 6 cylinder tractor and its about a full fuel tank (again a bit bigger than on the former big one) for the same amount of slurry (taking out way more these years).

Wider tires are a friend, but a good frost is an even bigger friend. I'm curious what kind of engine each tractor has - some are just more efficient than others, regardless of hp output. My guess is that all the electronic gadgets on new tractors come at the expense of fuel efficiency.
@Tanrenth
@Tanrenth 4 жыл бұрын
Something to consider is the fact the Case had to pull the tanker harder because it sank into the ground more. Maybe this was because of the tire the tractor has or because there was less frost in the first day. Either way I think it needs to be considered that it used more diesel because it had to work harder.

All I would say was the Case was pulling through softer ground and digging in making the engine work harder this using more fuel. So I’d say it’s probably fairly even fuel wise except you gain 20hp in the case.

As soon as it frosts get the muck out! I’ve been out the past three days early in the morning to get a few loads of muck out on the hard ground before the frost melts. Even when it was chucking it down with snow on Sunday it didn’t effect the ground at all and you couldn’t even tell i’de been there. Great video Tom.

So from experience with big tankers like that with such big tires that if the tractor does not make a mark the slurrytank won't make a mark either. So everything you can do to prevent the tractor from making mark will help the tanker. Also you case will have spent more pulling the tanker than he should have since you made some marks when using him. That makes the tanker way heavier for a time.

If and I repeat If I was you and importantly funds would support it I would get a larger six cylinder tractor about 150hp minimum, front weights for extra ballast and wider 600cm wide rears. I would also buy a rear discharge muck spreader for the box muck. As funds became available I would buy a third tractor in around 120hp. This would leave you three front line tractors for your main field work and a series of tractors for feeding, straw blowing scraping etc. The tractors could be designated specific jobs i.e. Tanker duty, muck spreader. Your tractors don't have to be all bells and whistles just previously well maintained units. Moving in forward you may wish to carry out round baling, ploughing grass Keys etc. Sorry but you did ask. Really enjoy your content. As for diesel usage it was very interesting, never underestimate the Hurliman. I think the right level of mechanisation could help assist in your drive for greater efficiency.
