Thank you so much for your videos. Growing up in Sydney with a croatian father this all seems so familiar to me. We had a huge back garden- dad grew just about every vegetable we ate. Such great memories. Have to say that it brought a tear to me eye. Thinking about all the wonderful croatians I have met. I wish you and your family all the best.

I was born in Ireland but lived in Australia my whole life. I just finished my 4 year psychology degree and have decided to leave Australia and move to Europe, probably will settle in Croatia, which i have visited many times. There is no point to live in Australia if i cant afford a house. Freedom is everything, and renting forever is not freedom. Many of my friends are waiting for their parents to die so they can inherit, but i want to make my own life instead of being a leech. People are shocked when i tell them i am leaving and never coming back, but they just dont get how bad Australia is becoming. Sorry for the long message. Good luck on your move!
@MyCroatianHomestead Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the msg. Australia is not what is used to be. Many people do not know as they have not been anywhere else and do not know anything else. It is just normal for many.

I'm with you when you say Australia isn't like it used to be, and that it's gotten really expensive to live there, and over here in New Zealand it's really bad. 800 dollars a week for a house?!?!? I'm moving to Croatia to join my girlfriend, and I'm gonna start over there. I need a healthier lifestyle. I want to eat healthier, slow down, not fuss about all the small things, and even with all the paperwork I'll have to do within the next year, it's all going to be worth it. New Zealand is slowly caving in on itself, and I don't want to be here anymore.

@@MyCroatianHomestead Back in the 90's I had 20% of a deposit for a house. Could have paid it off in about 5 years living with my parents. In 2007 when I left I calculated that more than 80% of my then pay would have gone to interest, leaving me not enough money for petrol food etc. It was too much for a single person back then I saw I had to leave otherwise I would have been in a mortgage till this day possibly if I was still single.

Good luck - my Croatian family moved all over the place - there’s nothing like home. I do find that most of my relatives struggle there for cash flow in Croatia yet they don’t have to deal with crime and the very hard rat race. Still some of them have to go abroad and work then return to start a business.

Yes for some reason Croats run away from places like this. They all want to be on the coast in big cities. Can not understand that. So much beauty in the country. All villages have all the amenities and cities are not that far
@novikom2 ай бұрын
@@MyCroatianHomestead The problem with small places is that employment is mainly in government institutions, retail, hospitality, tourism and some construction. With government jobs its political, family connections etc so people that can't get that kind of job are dissatisfied with the system. Retail and hospitality jobs are usually lower paying and/or long hours. Construction and tourism are mostly seasonal. So unless you get a goverment, retail or hospitality type job its hard to have enough income for a young family so they move to the bigger centres where there is more opportunity. I think a lot of those that left wouldn't have if they had found something decent where they were.
