Let’s not forget that oil FREEZES at -35 Fahrenheit, also the closer you get to freezing oil, the thicker the oil is and we’re talking about significant wear and tear on the pistons that now have to operate with nearly frozen oil. An engine can only run a few seconds without oil before warping the pistons and damaging the whole engine block beyond repair. That’s why nearly frozen (non moving) oil is going to cause significant damage. People who live in these extreme temperatures use an engine block heater to prevent this. Well this Tesla IS an engine block heater. I don’t see any set backs here unless you wanted to leave your car for weeks at a time

In Montana, without a block heater in the car, leaving a Honda accord out over night, I couldn’t not start it. Wouldn’t crank fast enough to start and killed the battery due to cold oil. I got a portable space heater and an extension cord and put it under the engine compartment for about 45 minutes and with a jump that got the car running again then I kept it in the garage all the time lol.

If no garage, do you have a driveway? Chargers work outside, too. Gas car and left overnight in extreme cold weather have trouble starting and then car battery also has problems. I suggest looking at some of the videos from Norway where EVs are very popular. Also the test on “out os spec review” where 3 year old Tesla with over 100 miles was left out for two days in below zero weather.

Cold temperatures can sap electric car batteries, temporarily reducing their range by more than 40% when interior heaters are used, a new study found. The study of five electric vehicles by AAA also found that high temperatures can cut into battery range, but not nearly as much as the cold. The range returns to normal in more comfortable temperatures. Many owners discovered the range limitations last week when much of the country was in the grips of a polar vortex. Owners of vehicles made by manufacturers including Tesla TSLA, 3.19% , the top-selling electric vehicle company in the U.S., complained on social media about reduced range and frozen door handles during the cold snap.
