In today's vlog we disembark the Disney Dream, we start the day with our last breakfast aboard the ship, then we head out of the port and drive home. As an American who has made a living working for tips in high end service, thank you for being generous and transparent about your tipping! This amount is very generous but also when you receive a much higher level of service than you normally would, it can in turn motivate you to leave a much higher tip than you normally would (it's not expected). Also thanks for taking into consideration that alot of these people may have been out of work for a long time given the pandemic.

@@leighnewman6160 When I was in my very early 20s I was a waitress for a while. I needed to make some money while going to school. ((For those of you that do not live and have never lived in the United States as a waitress we make far less than minimum wage. I think my salary per hour was $2.15. That is not anywhere close to minimum-wage and so my money to pay bills and other things came off of getting tips. I know those who are not from the United States definitely don’t understand that because they assume everybody is getting paid a living wage or at least minimum wage but that does not happen for servers.)) The individuals who would tipped the worst were almost always the ones that had the largest bill and the most people. It was always aggravating to me when my section would end up having an extremely large group of people. When that happens the amount of tables you take care of are reduced because so many tables are put together in your section for this one large group of people. In addition normally these very large groups of people stayed for very long amount of time. It wasn’t like they stayed for 45 minutes or maybe an hour and then left and then my tables went back to normal. They would be there for two hours or more. You would bust your backside off to ensure everybody got their meals on time and their appetizers on time and that they always had something to drink, alcoholic or nonalcoholic. You answered any and all questions. You did everything you were supposed to do plus some. Of course I was that way with all my tables even if they were only one person. You have that one enormous table and possibly 4 to 7 different checks. You would have one of the checks that would total more than $200. Where I was a waitress normally for a family of 4 a normal check would be $30-$60. A family of four spending over $200 is very large and normally included drinks from the bar. Of course you also had other checks at that table representing other families at that table. I’m not kidding when I say somebody would have a $300 bill and I would get a tip of two dollars. Over three hours at that table and never letting anybody’s drink go empty and always making sure they had food and anything they wanted immediately and I get a tip of two dollars. I could be working on a table like that for over three hours with basically or hardly any other tables in my section and get a total of $10 or $11 as a tip from the entire table. Occasionally you would have somebody walk up to you privately and apologize for the way the table tips. They normally will say they used to wait tables and completely understand the amount of work that goes into something like that and then they would hand you a really nice tip of $100. However they shouldn’t have to feel obligated to do that because the rest of the table and the different parties should’ve tipped correctly. I mean if I did my job poorly then I understand you not tipping me. However when I am doing my job where you even told the general manager walking around that I was the best waitress that y’all have ever had then why are you tipping me like that? Of course you never could say anything, even though you really wanted to, because as a waitress you just have to grin and bear it.

It would seem reasonable that tips should work out to about 15%-20% of what you spend on a cruise considering that's the percentage you are expected to pay for a meal.

@@leighnewman6160 You are entitled to your opinion, and I don't agree or disagree. But I think many people may not be from a tipping culture. In Europe for example salaries should cover for the job, tipping is only done in restaurants and there's no amount stated in advance. If you're not used to cruising, you are not used to the amounts that are probably normal. I'm not saying people who state that are all European, or whatever. But I do feel that it's difficult to fully judge a comment like that. Personally I've never been on a cruise, so have no idea what is normal, but I'm from a non-tipping culture, so hearing what the Trackers paid, made me realize I'll never be able to cruise with tipping amounts like that. (just trying to explain, haha. I'm sure I can't speak for everyone).

Some of these comments about tipping are amazing!!! You can definitely tell the people who have never worked in the service industry. The "they are doing their job" line is the worst!! You would truly be shocked at what some people consider "your job". This being a family channel I will not go into specifics but believe me, as someone who has worked in the service industry for years, people can be really ugly, mean , demeaning and overly demanding. I truly appreciate the fact that the Trackers, besides being very appreciative and generous remember that the cast members have not worked for over a year and are still not operating at full capacity. People like the Trackers make working in the service industry a rewarding career, not just because they are generous but seem to be truly nice, kind people that would be a pleasure to work with.

You have to understand that tipping is extremely different outside of the US. I live in the UK and tipping isn't really a thing unless you have exceptional service (and even then it's only about 10-15%). In some cultures, tipping is even considered rude. The idea is that you get paid fairly to do your job and not have to rely on tips to get by in life. A tip should be a bonus on top of a fair wage and not making up for a poor wage.

I used to eat out once a month as a treat, got to know my servers really well where I went. on a 25 quid food bill, I’d round it up to £ 30 because that’s all that I could afford and they understood that. Once when I told them my dog was getting surgery, they refused to take a tip and said “keep it for your pup and bring in some pics next time, ok’ you bet I did !

As someone who works in the service/hospitality industry I truly appreciate how well you treated the CMs. As a former CM, I’ve had my fair share of guests who sometimes are having a bad day and we would get the brunt of it. Seeing y’all appreciate and value CMs truly means a lot.

They’ve been doing this for over ten years now and are FINALLY being recognized and compensated for their detailed, informative content. I may be even saying it’s cheaper than it was because just for me and my family of three to go non-concierge regular room is like 6000. For this birthday trip everything they did was top-tier it was at least 20,000

Your tips made me so happy! I remember Pete Werner explaining DCL tipping, and how, these days, the ships are 1/3 full give or take-- it would be nice if people "showed up" in their tips, and remembered that the crew who rely a lot on tips are only getting about 1/3 of what they used to. I always use Bonine over Dramamine and experience no side effects at all. In more rough seas I still feel slightly woozy but not truly sick - a blessing indeed!

My husband and I both get seasick, my husband’s can be pretty severe. We both wear the patches and they work wonders!! Literally took all the nausea away from us both. They are a lifesaver!

DCL Crew Members are over the top awesome. Their recommended gratuities seem awfully low. One time, we did tip the other steward in our section, because he had helped so much. It’s so easy to go to Guest Services and amend the amounts. Plus, they make it easy to offer a gratuity to other CMs on board. They have envelopes for those outside of the server and steward realm. I don’t think a ton of people give extra, because they were shocked when they saw what they got. Happy to see you tipped that much. It’s their income, well earned and totally deserved. I was Cast Member at Disneyland when I went on my two. I was so bummed when I wanted to left some Cast recognition cards. The cruise line had not converted to the new system, so the App I had wouldn’t let me send them. They couldn’t or wouldn’t give me the cards and said to leave on survey after my cruise. That wasn’t enough for me. Couldn’t email the Captain either. I ended up getting home, going onto company email and writing the direct executive the Captain and crew report to. He ended up forwarding me email to the Captain and ship’s leadership team … because I wanted the specific CMs onboard to get a cast to cast recognition on their record cards. I literally stressed that whatever training happening on the ships needs to happen at the Parks. Though, much of that exceptional hospitality is something so culturally innate in countries the vast majority of the crew comes from. Disney Cruise Line is so awesome though. The Remy price is worth it for what you get. Have only done Palo, which is worth it too (for the caviar alone). Disney just does it right. If it wasn’t so dang expensive. Can cruise several times on Carnival, Royal or Norwegian for the price of one DCL cruise

I get that some of these luxury travels don’t relate to myself and some of us, but I love seeing them living their best lives! Also, the cheaper earlier experiences are already documented. We can watch or rewatch those cruise videos anytime we want to have a reference for beginner cruisers. This bucket list experience that I will never afford is however very informative for someone who may like to live vicariously or for someone who may want to indulge in the future. They’ve shown us the frugal versions, happy to see them splurge since I can’t.

Although we agree that it's definitely not fair, the pay is not a good wage. The tips are very important to those workers. Most of them are working extremely hard to give you a great trip. Since the company is not doing the right thing by them, we would make sure to do the right thing by them, unless they did an especially bad job for us. In the end, the cost of your trip would be a lot higher if all of those workers were making a good wage anyway, so we would just factor that extra expense in the budget of the trip. It's not a culture thing, really. It's taking into consideration the situation and doing what is in your power to take care of those performing the service for you.

It's not necessarily true that service industry workers are not paid a "good wage". In the US, most of them are simply paid (and taxed) with the assumption of a certain percentage of gratuities they will receive. If they do indeed receive the assumed tips, their take-home wage is usually reasonable for the position. The problem is more philosophical, in that while earning a decent wage this way requires decent tips, tipping itself is technically almost always optional. The issue arises when guests tip less than expected (or not at all), which unfortunately seems to happen more commonly than we'd like to admit. This is indeed both a social and regulatory problem, and it's certainly something I'd like to see changed. But it's not always fair to blame the companies for "not doing the right thing". The companies are simply doing what's expected: they pay what they are required to pay, not more and not less. As an aside- I don't know about DCL in particular, but I understand that many shipboard cruise line staff are in fact paid quite well. I would presume that a server or host on a Disney ship would make substantially more than someone in the same position at a comparable restaurant on land- while also having their shipboard living expenses paid by the company. Of course, they seem to work incredibly hard in return, so it seems fair enough.

@@its_clean you make my point exactly, except for terminology. We don't think of tips as wages. We consider wages to be what the company pays. To make a decent overall "income", they are dependent on tips. We agree with what you said and we would tip as generously as we could. 👍 😀

I think what the cost breakdown does which is really important as reminds people that although it's a expensive endeavor the reason that the trip is so special and wonderful is because of the people there working it and to not use like the idea that you've spent a lot of money to not reciprocate that gratitude with an appropriate tip. We are going on our first cruise next year and this really helps me to make sure that I'm prepared in advance. Thank you!!

As a Brit the tipping culture is so strange to me, my expectation is the cruise line pay a decent wage, especially the price you pay for a cruise, I shouldnt have to pay extra to someone doing their job. Having said that if someone goes above and beyond what I would consider their job role, then I would recognise their effort with a tip. I cant get round 'It's expected'

As someone who has lived in London and the US, it’s the fact that US pays very poorly when compared to the UK for service jobs. Plus cruise lines in general pay very low wages. It’s definitely just cultural as well, and in the US it’s considered rude to not tip when service is good/great. But again, that’s your choice. However, they definitely overtipped, but they wanted to. I’m sure the cast members deeply appreciated that, especially after covid.

Very generous with the tips! Now I feel like I undertipped! 😂 We really didn’t use the concierge lounge that much and the concierge staff. I asked if we could get into the spa as we decided last minute that it was a want. We didn’t expect to get in and sure enough we were told no by concierge. That was last November and could have been because of Covid. I do know that the 3 Concierge’s do not make any money and absolutely depend on tips. We had a great time.

I used the natural remedy patches off of Amazon and it worked great! My husband and I were on the cruise RIGHT before yours on the Dream and we had high winds the entire time. This was my first cruise and we actually loved the rocking of the ship. I took one Bonine in the morning at night and used a patch and never got nauseated. I also started this regimen two days before our cruise and continued for another two days after. We are now booked on the Wish for next year!

I Loved watching these videos. And I am so happy to see you fully respect Lynns decision to not be filmed. I just am curious if you could talk about how much she was working, vs how much down time she had. also, I am hoping you paid her really well to come along! As a nanny myself, it is very hard to be away from family and routines. And as awesome as you guys are she is still working. We took childcare with us to wdw last November. We had our helper during the day and gave her nights off and one entire day - we paid for all accommodations and food and events and tickets and etc. plus compensated her weekly wages. She seemed appreciative and had fun! She’s also a family friend so it was reassuring to have another adult with us and our two kiddos.

What happens is after any extended period out at sea or out on water you become land sick which is the reverse of seasickness. All you can do is take all your motion sickness pills and wait for your ears to settle back down. I’m from Florida and ships and boats aren’t a problem just stepping off takes a few seconds of readjustment to solid ground again.

Jackson's QUICK "NO" to "we're going home now was precious and sad, at the same time. :) On the 1 Disney cruise I've taken (a 3-night, 13 years ago!) I HAT#D the split bathroom, because it was so tight. I would not even CONSIDER another DCL cruise unless it didn't have a split bathroom, that's how uncomfortable it made me. I know you didn't have a split (be VERY glad about that!), but just sayn'. Wow - I my friends always tell me I'm a generous tipper, but you guys - wow!!! That's awesome that you wanted to make your appreciation "felt", and had the means to do so. Rare these days - bravo!! On the 2 cruises I've taken, I followed my fiend's advice - she'[s also my travel agent - I took the non-drowsy Dramamine 2 days before, then throughout, and 2 days after both. Only time I felt a bit nauseous was same a Lynn - on the way back to Cape Canaveral, the last night. But - it was at night, so I went to sleep, and woke up fine, thank goodness. That "Cay or Key": is ALWAYS a debate - LOL. I usually say "Key", unless it's Perfect DAY at Cocoa CAY" because "DAY" rhymes with "CAY', so makes more sense! LOL Socially distanced hugs to the 3 of you from New Jersey. Stay strong, stay positive, stay healthy!

I about fainted when I heard your tips. I can’t afford the cruise. I will say Tim had a great birthday and I’m extremely happy for all of them and not jealous at all. I do tip a lot more since so many people out of work. I’m very happy that you showed everything, I know a couple You Tubers that never show concierge and that’s all they do. So props to you for being so open. Never stop, love you.

My friend suffers from seasickness and found the behind-the-ear patches to work better than anything else she tried (wristbands, Dramamine, etc.)

As a fan and someone who has experienced different income brackets I really respected you talking about tipping. I recognize that our tipping system is not fair, but it is a very complex issue. I was starting to feel a bit like I couldn't relate to your videos because of the obvious massive wage gap. It's always been present, more and more each year, but that's completely normal and to be expected as successful youtubers. You all have always been down to earth, and idk I just like your videos. I was blessed enough as a teenager to go from a very poor neighborhood/school to a very very rich neighborhood/ high school because of a custody switch, not only do I think it helped me graduate hs but it gave me a very unique outlook and I realized people are people, and I'm not gonna agree with everyone but its not all black and white. I do firmly believe that rich people should spread their wealth around when possible, and it really means a lot when you are barely getting by. I'll never forget one of my hs church friends mom pressing an envelope with $500 cash in it and trying to convince me it was a St. Patricks Day present during my first year of college when I was struggling because I had no family support. I didn't even know the family all that well, and I kept refusing until my friends mom said "honey, we don't need it." as she gestured around the kitchen of her multi million dollar home. Idk this is rambling, and you probably won't read this, but I really appreciate you all spreading your money around to all those cast members. So many travel vloggers would've just thrown the $20 at them despite how expensive their cruise was.

For my motion sickness, I start taking meclizine every night before bed 2 weeks before the cruise. That way it will build up in my system before getting on the ship! I do continue to take it every night on the cruise, but I’ve found that I don’t need it during the day when I do the 2 week build. I do this before flying and before going to the parks too!

I have used those Motion sickness patches that go behind your ear because I have really bad motion sickness and dramamine (sorry if that’s not how you spell it) together and it really works.

Yes I’ve used the dots behind the ear for cruises. When I’ve used them I don’t recall having issues so I do recommend you mentioning that you want that for your cruise to your doctor.

scopolamine patches are a transdermal patch you should put on before you get on the ship and take them off a day after and they work fantastic

Rob and I wore the Scopolamine patches as we get major sea sickness. They work so well. They are prescription. They last 3 days per patch. They work so well. 😊

My parents love the patches. We tried it on a prior cruise. They worked well. They can cause you to be a little sleepy. On our cruise a few years ago we did the childrens dramamine it was less prone to make you sleepy. We did the sea bands as well. Also it is recommended to start dramamine a few days prior and a few days after. I did that and We felt fine but the sea was so calm. I heard Disney has stabilizers on the ship too.

I’m a new subscriber and I’ve enjoyed watching your videos! My husband and I have done three Disney cruises by ourselves as our kids are adults and we have had so much fun! Yes they are more expensive but the ships are so clean and we appreciate the family atmosphere. My husband is also determined to win a trivia medal! If you haven’t tried it yet play Bingo if its back. It is so much fun and is not your normal Bingo!!! As far as sea sickness I take a Dramamine about two hours before the cruise starts. Then I’m fine the rest of the cruise. I also found if I did that I didn’t have as much trouble the first day or two back on land. Cynthia

I have to wear the dots behind my ear whenever I fly or go to a theme park so that I can tolerate the rides. You have to have your Doctor prescibe them. Each patch should last 3 days unless it gets overly wet. For a cruise I was told that it would need to start wearing the first one 3 days before I left in order to be okay on the ship. To not wait until the day I'm leaving on the ship to put my first patch on. I wish I didn't have to just enjoy the rides with my family but it's just something I have to do or I am miserable. Love you guys, we enjoy your videos everyday!

My parents are DVC members and so we've been on the Disney cruises quite a few times. They were able to sail on the members cruise a couple years ago. They got me a spirit jersey and honestly said to get it the first day because they sell quite fast! So just a heads up! :)

As an American who has scrimped and saved to go on vacations, my favorite thing to spend money on is the customer service staff. I won't leave home unless I'm prepared to spend at least the same as the accommodations on the people who work so hard to create the experience. ❤️

That Tip thing is confusing. Part of me wants to be like, but i've already paid so much for the cruise itself. And it seems like the crew gets paid a pretty good Salary. BUT it is not like they go Home at the end of their "work Day." But they work their butts off to make it so Magical. It makes it like any service place, a huge incentive to be that Magical.
