Hey Maddie been following you this whole time I remember when I wrote that message out to you in the imp shelter back in June! I didn’t think the chances were high that you would happen to stop at the imp and stumble apon my message! I’m happy you got to be there when it was beautiful weather the weather was cold and rainy with snow still on the trails in some spots I stayed on the tiny wooden platform right behind the shelter when I was there cuz it filled up with thru hikers fast haha but keep up the trekking friend you are almost there!!! I’m so happy you saw my message that’s so cool I forgot I even wrote that to you until I saw this video !!! My name is James Hynes, I am pretty sure I forgot to sign my name with the message so it’s misters person lol but anyway have fun and stay safe out there Maddie ! Love your videos

1900 Whoot!!! You will be joining the 2000 miler club soon!!!! Congratulations on hiking 14 of the 14 states!!! Maine baby!!!! 🎉🎉🎉 Don't worry about being slow. You are doing great! The Whites are the hardest part and you did it!!! Southern Maine is an obstacle course and while not as steep, it's still very hard. Don't beat yourself up about the milage in Maine. Definitely stay at Shaw's hostel! It's one of my favorite memories from last year. Poet is a great guy! I pushed myself through the 100 mile wilderness and regret doing it so fast. I would take it easy if I could do it again. You will be at Baxter before you know it. Enjoy your time in Maine!!! The lakes are beautiful! As always go Maddie go!!! 💚💚💚🦵🦵

It takes an incredible amount of discipline to document a thru hike. I’ve hiked most of the JMT, and I always bring a GoPro and stuff to document it, I start out gung ho, but after a while, you just end up, going into survival mode and skipping a lot of it. My hat off to her it takes an incredible amount of effort and disciplined to do that.

I can’t stand the word “fear-mongering” for exactly the reason you said. It’s so self centered. Generally when people use that word is seems as if they think their experience is the only possible experience. It’s like they can’t recognize the fact that someone else did genuinely have a harder time with something than they had, and they were just trying to help them with a warning. I think it is VERY rarely someone actually trying to elicit unnecessary fear intentionally. Anyway, sorry for the rant but that’s a very popular word on the trail and it irks me every time I hear it. I’m so proud of you for finding your way to being at peace with being a little slower and just enjoying the trail at your own pace. This is a really beautiful section you’re in and I’m so thankful to you for sharing it with us. You’re so close!! Have a great time with this last state and savor every minute.

That rocky section looked tough. It's good to set your own timescale at each break so that your overall day finishes in daylight. It's amazing that the cake made it in one piece to the birthday celebration. Being below average speed is ok provided that you manage time effectively to reach the end before winter conditions stop you. Accepting your speed limitations is part of the learning experience of AT life.

Be very proud Ranger of yourself and the person you are. Enter Maine caused me to realize the privilege you have afforded me to witness your adventure will be coming to a conclusion. I pray you will vlog your summiting Katahdin, and afterwards reward us with some after the AT reflection and what you learned about yourself . ❤ On to Katahdin.. PS PINTO Summited today Oct 4 2023. The views from that mountain in Maine looked incredible! Another tough week - it's so very different than the southerly sections when you could just walk (something I get frustrated about in Vancouver - often we end up "hauling" rather than "hiking" and it's just so tiring!). Remember about half of all the thru-hikers are slower than average, so you're in good company 🙂 So great that you felt some of the trail camaraderie return - that must've felt good! Changing subject, the next challenge I think will be whether or not your shirt makes it to Katahdin! 😀 Hope Maine continues to be a fine adventure!

IN regards to going slow... My brother and I have had an ongoing conversation as to why people are always trying to "live UP to their individual potential"... But what about all those who are trying their best to live "DOWN" to the their potential. Those individuals have a different experience and appreciation for things... Think about it... Use Lance Armstrong as the example... You can't have 7 tour de france wins stripped from you for doping if you hadn't won 7 times. This is how I see the trip of doing the AT. You have already won, you're on the trail and living the dream (or nitemare depending on the day).. Some people will be faster, some slower.. but in the end, YOU have lived YOUR potential. Win, Lose or Draw.. It's YOUR Potential. Be the best YOU that YOU can be, the future of the universe depends on YOU being both the best & worst version of YOURSELF!
