They had their own clubs and usually didn't want to hangout with a bunch of straight suburban kids from Marin and San Jose. I mean obviously there were gay peeps that came and went, but SF was filled with gay clubs back then

Be thankful, didnt used to be that way. Back when it was one of the most cliquish scenes you could be a part of. But with an aging set of dark and spookies and a minimal influx of new dark spawn, the scene is much more accepting. Generally a good thing, but the fashion does suffer for it.

No, no, the ones with neon and goggles dance like it's calisthenics and martial arts kata, the ones with the droopy sleeves and long hair dance like they're stuck in cobwebs and the ones in the ridiculous high heels wiggle about with attempted sexiness to mask that they can't actually move about in those shoes, half of them just shuffle vaguely like someone's drunk uncle at a wedding around the edges of the dance-floor, and then there's always one who thinks they're either Torville or Dean and has to make a fancy show in the middle of the dance floor. Yeah, I know they're figure skaters, but that floor gets pretty slick with all the spilled snakebite and black :P Then some metalheads turn up and try to mosh to Joy Division. :P
