I find the winking and nodding of even the more nuanced and honest western journalists is endemic and infuriating. I was listening to a recent podcast by Ezra Kline and at one point Ezra is explaining that Palistinians believe that the Israelis are trying to push them out and the other journalist just goes "parish the thought" then they just kinda did the okey'doke and moved on. They didn't defend Israel but they did lightly dismiss it as too terrible to contemplate. Its so frustrating when its actually the self evident truth! 💢

It's so annoying. I used to thoroughly enjoy engaging in debates and having some back-and-forth within the YT comment sections. You don’t have to go that far back to find an example of US involvement. Try Afghanistan 40 years ago. The organization that supplied Stingers to the Mujahadeen, who later became part of the Taliban, was called Al Qaeda and it was a CIA operation. The reason they were 100% sure Iraq had weapons of mass destruction is because Rumsfeld brokered the deal selling Iraq chemical weapons during the Iraq/Iran war when Reagan was president. The US has a nasty habit of arming people who become a problem for the US later, kind of like Israel is now. Israel is only getting away with attacking Lebanon because US relations with Lebanon are still a bit icy from events 40 years ago. If Netanyahu ever turns his eyes towards Jordan, Saudi Arabia or Egypt, you’ll see airstrike by US Navy against IDF airfields.

Some of the oldest cities in that region are Tyre, Beryut, Acco and Gaza. They date back before the existence of ancient Israel. They date back before Ancient Rome. The people who founded Carthage came from those four cities. That’s why Netanyahu wants to hit Beryut. Netanyahu wants to erase an inconvenient history that conflicts with his ancient territorial claims. To put it in simple terms, the genocide in Gaza was so popular in Israel that Netanyahu is taking it on the road to entertain the people in Lebanon too. As a gay Lebanese-American, whenever I go to Lebanon, I've met a lot of Hezbollah rank & file, low level politicians, etc at the gay night life scene in Beirut.
