Stan Van Gundy joined Dan Le Batard for a recent episode of South Beach Sessions. The two talked about a number of things including Stan's relationship with his brother and fellow former NBA head coach and broadcaster Jeff Van Gundy. Jeff Van Gundy is the funniest, smartest, most honest announcer I've ever heard, calling games. He and Mark Jackson played off of each other brilliantly. Even if the game was bad and boring, I would keep watching, just to listen to Van Gundy. ESPN is stupid. Ive cancelled my streaming service that carried the channel, because it is now unbearable to watch.

I have a friend who works at ESPN and he said he heard “rumors” that it had something to do with JVG’s nonstop criticism of the league and refs etc. Just a rumor, he doesn’t have any actual firsthand knowledge of the situation, but it does seem plausible to me. I love JVG but he didn’t hold back when criticizing the refs and shit haha… one of the reasons I like him. Unfortunate.

Jeff Van Gundy and Mark Jackson were a great combo as NBA TV game broadcaster. Jeff made it more fun to watch the game with his commentary alongside with Mark was great too. 17 years of service in ant profession with a single firm, that needs to be celebrated. ESPN needs to secure such talent and could have been more respectful to both before letting them go.
