It's one thing to recognize the mismatch but it's actually really hard to command the floor and switching to the level it would take to constantly exploit the right defenders like this. @@mattmmixes when Steve Nash was averaging 15 and 11 in a stat inflating system and the gap between him and Kobe was even greater defensively than it is between Giannis and Lebron, the stats didn't matter at all. The award has always been about narrative. If Lebron closes out the season gearing up like he did this weekend and Bucks are resting and load managing Giannis last 10 games instead of going for the 1 seed overall , Lebron will and should win it based on what the standard the award has always been.

First of all, don't even try to pretend like Golden State was the same as this Lakers team. It wasn't a 2 man punch, they had FOUR All-Stars on that team and that team had just gone 73-9 the previous year. KD was the best player, but Steph was clearly the most important on the team. LeBron is so obviously the most important player on the Lakers and it's clear by his impact metrics. People point out that AD averages (one) more point and barely leads in the other statistical categories, but LeBron has clear and dominant influence in many of the advanced metrics. The Lakers obviously fall apart when he isn't on the floor.

What Lebron has done for the entire season is what jumps out to me. People seems to forgot that this roster nearly totally new coming into this season. Lebron has for the entire season tried to build the team so every single guy on the roster gets confident in their roles and rotations. Look at him handing it to Rondo, Bradley, Kuz, AD and so on. Lebron could easily just keep the ball to himself, but he knows that if he is gonna beat especially the Clippers he gotta a whole team around him that are ready. I am not in doubt Lebron is taking the MVP this season and well deserved. 1. The Lakers are only 1 loss behind the Bucks now in the standings and actually have a chance to catch up to them besides being a waaaay tougher conference 2. Lebron has the best +- when on the floor by any player in the league and by a distance, which means when Bron is on the floor Lakers are the best team in the world. 3. Bron have no flaws to his game which as good as Giannis is he still do! we saw in last year against the Raptors, but also against the heats and now the Lakers. As soon as you put a big body on him and he aren't able to drive to the basket, he just isn't as dangerous anymore. 4. You all know how much sexier it is to give it to Lebron. His 17th season + playing for the Lakers + Kobe's death + changed his role + so many other things. where as Giannis got the thing against him that he won it last year but didn't follow it up in the playoff and got locked completely by the Raptors. 5. And tbh i do not think Giannis stats is superior to Lebrons. Lebron got 25,7-7,8-10,6 to Giannis 29,6-13,7-5,8. Like Giannis is the Bucks main rebounder so ofc he is gonna have those numbers in the rebounds while Lebron got Davis, Dwight and McGee as the main rebounders. then we can look at points where Giannis lead by around 4 points a game but James leads Giannis by 5 assist a game. 5 assist gives atleast 10 points and i would probably say around 2 of those is 3 pointers, so around 12 points. So that gives lebron 37,7 points a game to Giannis 29,6. Now i know Giannis is playing less minutes but tbh how can we hold that against Bron. Lebron for me is the MVP and for me i do not see it as a race anymore after those 2 dominant games. He has been playing MVP the entire year but theese 2 games proved he is still the best player in the league both defensively when he wants to and obviously offensively.

Not having fans around you when the game gets close really does impact it. There is so much emotion and basketball is a game where teams feed off the emotion and go on runs. Now you are making the same argument 'historical argument' too - so pls apply that to Lebron as well. 3. You remember when Derrick Rose won the MVP ? What was his PER then historically ? What was Lebron's ? Shouldnt Lebron have won then ? What about Steph Curry's PER historically ? What were the PER of other players ? There is no single one criteria that is used for MVP selection - but whatever criteria is used, that should be applied to all candidates. 4. Side note - Russell Westbrook was given the MVP becos he notched a Triple Double the entire season but when he achieved that same feat the next season, he only placed 5th in the MVP race . So this shows the fluidity / inconsistency of the selection process - thus me pointing out to Chris Broussard that if he was using the "historical argument', it should be also be applied to Lebron as well i.e. historically nobody has done what Lebron is doing in year 17 at age 35 leading the league in assists with a new coach and a new core/team in the tougher western conference.

Jordan, too was the best playing in the league at 35 during his 2nd three-peat, but he wasn't given MVPs because of his age. It's because he was the best player on the best team. 3. You do realize that there are many reasons for that, right? 29ppg, 13rpg, 1 spg, and 1 bpg. He is leading the best team with the best individual stats. And Rose won because he lead the best team in the east to 60 wins (regular season). Again, best player on the best team. Note that MVP is a reg season award, disregarding the playoffs. Curry lead the warriors to beat the 72-10 season, are you trying to say he didn't deserve it then? There are many criteria MVP, age is not one of them. 4. Again, age does not matter in the MVP discussion. MVP award doesn't care how old you are. That westbrook MVP was given because it was a historic performance of season. Compared to all other seasons in nba history. If you ignore how old Lebron is, his regular season right now isn't as impressive as other historically great regular seasons. But Giannis' season is, on pace for 70 wins while averaging 29ppg, 13rpg, 6asg, 1spg, and 1bpg.
