@@explodingbaby9758 It's not that they couldn't match the offer. They didn't want to when they could. Caruso called his agent to call the Lakers back and negotiate. Caruso was willing to take less. His final offer he wanted was a 2 year $20 mil contract, Lakers said no. They wanted to stay firm on 3 years $21 mil and Caruso rightfully declined. Lakers didn't want to pay more luxury tax to re-sign Caruso. The 6 Buss siblings own 66% of the Lakers, AEG owns 1/3 of the team and Dr. Patrick Soon-Schiong has a 5-7% minority ownership. The Buss siblings get equal share of the money that comes in via revenue, AEG gets a share and Dr. Soon-Schiong gets a share. Paying the luxury tax comes directly out of the shares that the Buss siblings get meaning they have to pay out of their own pocket. That is essentially the Buss siblings' salary. They didn't want to do that so Caruso went to the Bulls
