#1 is not a travel, it's a jump stop. #2 is a travel but that goes uncalled constantly. #3 is a travel but just barely. I can see why it didn't get called. #4 also a travel by the book but if you are trying to show Lebron travels there are 1000 examples far more obvious than these.
@ThorHC119 жыл бұрын
Tony C I'm sorry, but LeBron took one step before his jump-stop. That brings his total number of steps after dribbling to three, meaning it's a travel.
@Maryel_R_R_Palmer9 жыл бұрын
Wasn't that a travel or a carry before he passed the ball on number 1? Not before he shot it. It seemed he walked a few steps with the ball.
@tonyc73019 жыл бұрын
Mary El you can't really see his feet in the video before he passes the ball. Hard to tell.

Thor Christensen I believe that step was completed at about the same time the left hand got the ball back. A dribble ends when it's back in the hand not when it's back off the ground.

***** you obviously dnt know basketball or play. You can't take a step and then hop. you have to take a bounce on the step and leave the floor off both feet. if you take a step and a hop that is 3 steps
@eesa_19809 жыл бұрын
- 1st one not a travel. - 2nd definitely was a travel, should have been called. - 3rd one wasn't really a travel. Yes, there was a minute slide with the left foot but no advantage was gained from it. It would have been a petty call. - 4th one was a big slide, definitely should have been called.

It's not a travel today. For the first 100 years of basketball it was a travel, for the last 15 years it's a hopstep or eurostep. No matter what you call it by the rulebook definition of traveling it's a travel. The leeway of the league though it's a "step" of some sort. James harden and is shuffling feet are in the same category
@Ali-76763 жыл бұрын
@@itz-luigi1210 It hasnt been a travel since at least 1986 when I started playing basketball. Thats a hell of a lot more than 15 years ago, even though sometimes it feels like 15 days ago. The eurostep is not the same as the hopstep.

***** , you cannot lift your pivot before dribbling. "your foot will slide a few centimeters when sprinting. Get off the couch and try it" I played basketball for 30+ years. It was very easy to keep my foot from sliding. Also, James isn't sprinting. "then his dribble landed before his third step landed" You have no idea what constitutes a pivot foot, do you? You must be in your 20's or younger. You aren't allowed two steps and then a dribble. Try reading the rules of basketball. Do you need me to copy and paste them for you?

There's a reason only 2 teams from the West (LA and Houston) and 3 teams from the East (Celtics, Philly, and Detroit) went to the Finals in the 80s. @alanlee677 жыл бұрын
The rule does not specifically refer to steps but to "counts" after your pick up your dribble. You could technically pick up the dribble in the air...land on both feet for one count...go in the air and land on both feet for your second count and execute your shot. In this particular play...Lebron actually does take 2 counts. Far from a travel although he does travel a lot in general. Some of the worst footwork ever for such a high profile player.

Player is on the move. Ball is being dribbled with left foot on the ground. Player collects, right foot hits ground - pivot foot established. Second step both feet hit the ground. Player jumps off both feet and shoots before either foot touches the ground. LeBron is a rampant traveller but this instance is actually really good play. And legal. He can land on both feet and lift one or both feet if he wants as long as neither foot reconnects with the ground after leaving it.

@danhill1508 жыл бұрын
+Mitchell Carter That is a jumpstop, a hop step is subtly different. You're allowed to come down on both feet at once, and that's a dribble move we teach to AVOID traveling all the way down to elementary levels. In the NBA you're allowed two steps, and one can be a jumpstop. With his particular footwork in the clip, had the right foot touched significantly first or he attempted a step-through then it would have been a travel. Here's a video so you can learn the correct definition of a hop step. www.nba.com/video/channels/nba_tv/2014/01/23/making-the-call-hop-travel.nba/

Plus, the idea is that you jump while the ball is in the air during your final dribble. Thus making the extra step legal because the dribble had not terminated yet. Lebron took a crab dribble, gripped the ball with two hands, took a full step and then jumped onto two feets and jumped again. Wasn't close to being anything legal

Like I said, it's a tough call, and I'll admit that it depends on the way the rules are interpreted. However, I see this as establishing the pivot foot (right) and then lifting and landing on that same pivot foot with the ball in hand. That's where the travel happens. Then he goes up with the shot.

you’ve got to be kidding me with this video. Take any ball handler in the NBA thats played more than 5 years and you could make a compilation of missed “Travels” NBA is a fast moving game. Hard to get every call. OBSESSED

Actually a hop step IS legal in USA basketball, that's why no ref calls it a travel....

First one isn't a travel, it's a hop step, completely legal.

That one's a tough call, but the problem with it is that he leaves off of one foot to jump stop. When you jump stop, you have to leave off both feet. It's less obvious in the situation in this video, but if he were running the floor, you would be able to tell how much that extra step helps him move through the defense.

You can't jump stop unless zero steps or basketball moves occur first. The rules are very clear about this. The fact that he cheated further by doing the move off of one foot to avoid another player just illustrates the leeway and cart blanche the NBA affords this dude that Jordan got 2 years beating the shit out of The Jazz of; not a career. Plus he bashed Larry Bird who he isn't nearly as gifted as in terms of basketball acumen, shooting, or passing ability. Why the fuck is he some sort of basketball demigod to millennials and the media?

Not sure if NBA has different traveling rules to the official FIBA rules but at least on FIBA rules it is explicitely allowed to end the dribble, land on one foot and jump from there to stop on both feet - neither of which can then be used as a pivot. Therefore no traveling in 1st clip where he proceeds to make a jump shot without pivoting unless NBA rules state otherwise.

The first clip was a clean hop step.

I knew people would dislike this video. The refs are looking for travels, but when lebron does it, they have to ignore it. If he takes 5 steps, THEN they will call it.

"A progressing player who jumps off one foot on the first step may land with both feet simultaneously for the second step. In this situation, the player may not pivot with either foot and if one or both feet leave the floor the ball must be released before either returns to the floor" -NBA Official Rulebook pg 37 (Rule 10 SectionXIII). The rules specifically describe what James does here as legal. I agree it feels like a travel, it SHOULD be a travel, but the rules are clear - it's legal.
@DougWarner2511 жыл бұрын
fuuny thing is the ref could see every travel but lets him get away with it every game

Those were clear travels(except for the first, its legal). But I think in the game your not paying attention to small details such as this. Now again it looks small, but that small space james created by sliding his pivot foot was enough space to use to take off. So in all honesty those travels were very important to the game. You people sticking up for james must not have played basketball cus you would know how much that spacing he created by sliding his pivot is important.

The first one was a jump step and he did do it correctly. He did technically travel on 2 and 3 but i could see refs letting those go. The last one was pretty bad though.
