i know that Christians don't like this. in their forums they say that this is evil Paganism. yes, it is Paganism. it is true. but they themselves are far more evil. all crusades. all blood spilled... incomparable.
Wspaniałe i wzruszające widowisko! Pozdrawiam z Polski.

As an American I have no idea what's going on in any of this, but I love it! Something about the section 1:02:31-1:05:56 I am particularly enamored by, the music, the dancing, the very clear and genuine display of passionate love (there's no way those two aren't a real couple), I have no idea how many times I've watched it.

It was a while ago know, but if I remember, they did get together within the year of practicing and leading up to the show :) (I was participant)

@@missionquasar1429 Good for them! That's sweet and satisfying to hear. I'm a sucker for good genuine love stories. Must have been really cool participating in this, quite a production!

Right? I wanted to say that this is like The Brigertons Serries 2 or at least Bridget Jones. The thing is that midsummer celebration is about young couples first expressing their love to each other (having met at Spring equinox) before getting married in August / September. It is beautiful really, the celebration of love

Remember, it’s a show, a fairy tale. Romanticising ancient peasant lifestyles. It has it’s roots in 19th century tradition of national romanticism,going to people - time when also Latvian national awareness was created as nation of peasants, still continues today. So this speaks to people, these are well known archetypes, but it’s a romantic image and should be treated as such. We should not judge real live by comparing it to this.

What song starts at 23:00 I absolutely love it and need to know!!

Yes, that one is one of my favorites! I looked but could not find a list of songs or lyrics for any of them except the main one - "Lec, Saulite!", sorry. I think they all were created specially for this event and are not sold as a soundtrack anywhere.

I fucking love Latvian music. What are these mass shows that you put up? Looks like half of Latvia is there. What's the name of the song at 23:00? /Sweden

I used Translate function in Google Chrome, worked pretty good. Have a great day 🤗!

Colton Kid It is symbol of fire in Latvian folklore, more ancient then your called swastika which was used by uncle Adolf, and swastika is bit different lines goes to rigt

+Colton Kid If you used your eyes you would see that it is the reverse of the Swastika. It dates back 1,000's of years and believed to have originated in Sanskrit. The Romans also used it. Do some research.

if YOU did SOME MORE research you would know that the Thunder cross aka Fire cross (the latvian symbol in question) can go both clockwise and counterclockwise. It's a symbol of power and strength and life and it's ultimately the symbol protecting against evil. also this symbol has been around for a VERY long time in pretty much all parts of the world, researchers have even found it featured in cave drawings dating back thousands of years. And it always symbolises good things like life or time or strength. Nazis used it because they saw it as a symbol of power and strength but they used it for evil instead of good which has forever left terrible associations whenever people see it. And it's sad. In latvian culture it's always been a very important symbol and the fact that it was wrongly used isn't gonna change our culture and history. so we don't shy away from it, we keep celebrating the true meaning of it and it's place in our culture
@ziplorence8 жыл бұрын
also if the original comment was referring to the symbol in the background then the pair finally gets together and start dancing then it's Jumis. which is the symbol of well-being and fertility
