So, kashubian is noticeably different from both polish and Silesian (let alone that the latter one doesn’t have very specific features apart from mainstream polish dialects). It has somewhat moveable stress, and therefore some kind of vowel reduction, the abundance of schwa sound [ ə ], presence of a very specific vowel [ ɞ ], in many ways there the Slavic liquid metathesis hasn’t occurred, for example “gard” - city, compare with polish and Russian “gród” and “gorod” and proto Slavic “*gordъ“; instrumental case is more often “-ima/ama”.

Yes, Kashubian is the last surviving language from the Pomeranian group (another one, Slovincian went extinct in the 19th century, all of the others were lost earlier), while Silesian evolved alongside Polish from the Old Polish language. Similar case to English and Scots - both having single descendant, borrowings from the same sources, but evolving differently.

While I dont speak any Slavic language, and just only started learning Ukrainian recently, I can clearly hear that Kashubian differs the most. To my ears it sounds like Polish mixed with some Czech and a little Germanic. Kashubian having some Germanic loan words makes sense considering the history of Pomerania, but the higher similarity with Czech vs f.ex. Silesian suggests that Kashubian have preserved some more archaic traits of Lechitic languages (which happens to be more common in border territories)?

As a native Polish speaker I can share my impressions. Silesian is practically completely intelligible with little effort, so I would consider it a dialect of Polish. With Kashubian it's less clear. On one hand, the Kashubian from this sample seems mostly intelligible, but it takes a little effort. So, in the terms of intelligibility, i would consider it in a weird limbo between a separate language and a dialect of Polish. No wonder there had been some controversies regarding its status.

Just wanna say that the Pommersche and Schlesische areas are still German core territory just like Poland has core territory to the east, there are also Slavic languages in Brandenburg like *Sorbisch* (look it up if you find this video interesting).

None of those are core German territory, not even close. German core territory is Denmark, and Belenux, not any Slavic lands we rightfully owe. Berlin was founded by Slavs, all of Austria, and East Germany is Slavic territory.

@@Pan-Lechia East Germany is as much Slav core as Scandinavia is French core. If East Germany is Slavic, then the entirety of Poland is Russian core territory.
