The problem is not what YOU think he sounds like. Do you fully glorify God? On what scale? Okay, well he has his own scale. Your statement is TRULY materialistic. Psalm 37:37 "Consider the blameless, observe the upright; there is a future for the man of peace; But all sinners will be destroyed; the future of the wicked will be cut off" This is all based off your energy towards the world. Thank you for allowing GOD to humble yourself. Be BLESSED. Rebuke any unconscious bias. Hold it down shorty, be safe, and preeshiate yah!!

@@hunterw1230 I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. But this is what the industry can do to a person. How does one learn patience? God gives them infuriating situations and they have to ask the Lord for patience through it. After a few times, the Lord has taught you patience through these and they aren't so "infuriating" as before. How do you learn discernment? God allows options to come and you have to turn to Him and His word in what to say/do. God will use this one day in the future; I hope it's to redeem him. We need to pray for him. Do I find it concerning how worldly his jokes sound and the way he talks? Yes, but I mess up and I know it's only by the grace of God I am saved. I pray the Lord brings him back soon.By the way, I don't care for most of this modern music but I pray for stars everyday bc the road is narrow and straight and it's not a joke. I want everyone on the road and pray the Lord keeps me on it. It's easy to go left or right when not focused on Him.

I feel so very "sad" to hear what the "pressure" of being in the music industry can do to a persons faith in God the Father. I met Lecrae several years ago aboard a cruise ship where he performed and where I performed and he and I talked briefly about him doing "christian rap" he seemed to be very proud of being a "christian rapper" and I was impressed with his talent. What I am hearing is so devastating, as a gospel artist myself I can appreciate all genre of music, but to "sell out" like this is horrible. There is supposed to be a difference between "light and dark", the Bible tells us that we cannot be luke warm, you either love the one (God) or hate the other. I will continue to pray for Lecrae and for his salvation. Too many of our talented brothers are being fooled and led into a trap to disassociate themselves with the gospel of Jesus for fame and fortune....now its to "inspire a form of spirituality." Its true in gospel music that you don't gain the "Beyonce/Jay Z and Lil' Wayne" status but "what does it profit you to gain the whole world and loose your soul!"

1 John 2:15-17 ESV Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world-the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions-is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.

this is so crazy!!! This man was once straight preaching the gospel on reach records, with a what seemed like sincere passion to reach the lost. Now he's all like he doesn't want to label himself. Ok, its real clear that he wants the fame and he cant get that truly standing for the truth and for Christ. but its a costly price to pay. God is not mocked!

When Lecrae said to the other man "So you're your own God?" and "where'd you get that stuff from?" is also him evangelizing. He really made that man question heaven and hell. People will hear the term Christian Rapper and be turned off to music without hearing it. Whether it be because they think it's corny and wack (which there have been some corny and wack Christian Rappers), or if they just don't rock with theology and religion. Plus, the music isn't just for us Christians to enjoy, it's just hip hop music so why generalize and label it to just us. It's a hip hop/rap song, so it should be labeled as such. Ask yourself, why is 'Gospel', 'Spiritual', or 'Christian' even a category that you can select in itunes or spotify? They literally don't even care if it's country, pop, rap, soul, electronic; if it's made by a religious folk then they automatically set it aside and take it out of certain circles. Do they call Common, Ice Cube, Jedi Mind Tricks, or Mos Def Muslim rappers? No. They get grouped in with the hip hop genre; but we see it's just us Christians who get set apart from the herd. Chance the rapper get's still grouped in with regular rap even though he's trying to push Christianity because he curses and says nigga in his raps. But Lecrae will say the same stuff without cursing, and they will label him Christian or Gospel. Where is his regular Grammy or BET Award? It's always just the gospel ones that they are willing to give him, when his last album Anomaly was better than Coloring Book and DAMN in my opinion. He's being set aside by the industry because of a stigma that is attached to spirituatlity in music, and the industry only glorifies and promotes negative material and what the culture dictates is lit at the time. The bible calls for us to be in the world and not of it, but little things like setting us apart from the rest of the industry, category wise, make a difference. Christian music doesn't get any radio play on major stations, or in major film. Those avenues reach millions of people, some sheep and some goats, but nonetheless millions; and something like a category title will make it a bit harder for him to get into those lanes and start planting seeds. He's trying to transcend across all platforms with a Christ centered Godly music message, but a simple genre label stops a lot of people from even giving it a chance. That's why I think he says it, but then again I'm not him and I don't know what he truly feels because I haven't read his book yet.

I wonder how people are gonna try to defend him this time. Look I love Lecrae and all his music (can't really get with his recent ones), but it's obvious that there's a shift in him, and honestly I don't know if it's for the better. Imma still keep up with this dude, but prayers go out to this man that hopefully he stays close to Christianity even though he's not making Christian music anymore. What I don't get is this, "he using something other than Christianity to draw an audience" argument. I got a question that hopefully people who say this all the time can answer. If he's trying to attract people without God in his lyrics, what is he going to do when he gets that audience you guys are talking about? Is he gonna go back to making Christian music? Will that audience that he attracted be turned away if he does go back to Christian music because it's not what they were looking for?

@Ya Boi Ciyde You look like a young man. It's such a blessing to see you speak with wisdom. You are ABSOLUTELY right...The Most High already gave the gospel. He doesn't need us to fix it up, cause we don't have the power "save" anyone any way, it is the Holy Spirit within that does that work while using us. God doesn't need us to imitate our sin nature to entice people to HIM. This man is just another morally sound rapper and unfortunately, there will be a lot of morally sound, good people who don't make it because Jesus is the only why. :)

Keonna Williamson I agree with you. Jesus is the only way, but...we are called to plant seeds and reflect the Glory of God. And that's what Lecrae is doing. He's trying to plant seeds using music and.. it's beautiful. What I'm saying is you cannot be the savior cause Jesus Christ is already that. but you can start to plant seeds and hopefully the person who he's speaking gets that wake up call and starts their walk with God.

Lecrae doesn't want to be labeled a "Christian Rapper" and I don't blame him. He's a hip hop artist that happens to be Christian so of course his faith is going to bleed through his music which is great. I think when we label things "Christian", people think that they won't relate to it because they think that it may only be for Christians or that he's not going to be talking about real life issues. I think it's actually great for him to not label himself a Christian Rapper. People should know who you're by your fruit and how you present yourself without you even having to say "I'm a Christian" Now because of Lecrae's background there are people that will always consider him a Christian Rapper and that's ok. Anyways much love to you all and God bless!

You spread it also living out what you believe. Alot of yall expect this man to tell every person he sees about Jesus and when he doesnt, that means hes not a christian..foh. He lives it out by carrying himself in a Godly way. He also doesn't want to be labeled a Christian rapper because that boxes him in as a person. "Christian rapper" means people expect you to preach on damn near every one of your songs and every public appearance. He is a regular ass man who talks about his life. He still a christian. I feel like people didn't watch the video before disliking it. Lecrae said that you do not have to be a christian to enjoy his music, but if you want to dialog with him, it is something he is passionate about. He is preaching the gospel through his music. I preach my beliefs everyday through my actions at school. Lecrae is a rapper who is Christian. Dre can inspire him it doesn't mean that the gospel stopped inspiring him or God stopped inspiring him.

McGuck In his book titled "Unashamed", Lecrae explains everything. He talks about why his new music sounds so different compared to his first albums like "Rebel" & why he doesn't consider himself a "Christian Rapper": "My earliest music turned out a lot like my efforts to evangelize. It was rooted in pure intentions and a true expression of what I believed, but my own selfrighteousness and insecurities kept getting in the way. During this period of my life, I was what the apostle Paul called "a Pharisee of Pharisees." As a result, the music rarely portrayed me as someone who was broken or in need of spiritial growth. Instead, I was always the hero in the music. One of my biggest points of pride, for example, was how many mission trips I took. It was as if the number of stamps in my passport was a measure of how comitted I was to Christ. My motivation was off. I was proud of myself, and I wanted others to be proud of me too. The subtle message "You need to be like me." I didn't have much grace for anyone who wasn't living like me. I was getting in the faces of people who disagreed with me or weren't 100 percent committed to God. When people ask me if I regret the music I produced early in my career, I don't hesitate. No, absoulutely not. Everything I said in those songs was true. I never lied or used the music to manipulate people. The songs on all those albums were snapshots of my heart during those moments in my life. But even though it was all true, it was often rooted in the wrong motivations or disconnected from my natural giftedness. -Lecrae (Unashamed book)

Lecrae is boxing himself into a corner with all this "I am not a Christian rapper" nonsense. If you're not a Christian rapper then what are you then? You can't compare yourself to Chance and Kendrick, because you're nothing like them, your music is/was centred around the gospel, you perform at churches and Christian events, you win awards and receive nominations in the Christian categories. Kendrick and Chance don't. You're not fooling anyone. Lecrae needs to stop chasing after worldly fame. The world is going to use him and dump him, then he is going to start crying back to the church SMH.

Christians are over here looking like the world! It's hard to tell who isn't one! We as Christ followers are to be set apart from this world! We are cut from a different cloth! We are to be an example of holiness and righteousness who is Christ our Lord. Just because a person sings, raps, preaches, teaches or even prophesies about God or the Bible, does not mean they are walking with the Lord. Anyone can teach, preach, cry out to the Lord, lift up there hands and worship, quote the Bible, say they are a preacher, say they are a prophet, and say they are a Christian and they are not such in heart!.....Don't be deceived! Lecrae is walking in the wrong direction. I'm praying for him and for this world!

Whatcha need is return to your "first love" Jesus Christ in repentance. Just like the prodigal in the mud, ya went too deep. Used to preach "I ain't ashamed" now ya say, "I don't want no labels." Bro, ya fallen from grace. When did it start? Grammy, or the B.E.Ts? 30 silver pieces, Judas sold his soul. How much did they offer you, Lecrae? Was it silver or this time was it gold?!#PrayForLecrae

Pharisees hated Jesus the same way some of y'all are hating on Lecrae. Let the man preach the way he wants it's the same gospel you're hearing in church. The only difference is he gears it towards a different audience. Not everyone wants to be hit with a multiple bible verses so Lecrae fills his lyrics with the simple truth. Ain't nothing wrong with that. He's not conforming, just engaging culture through his lyrics and telling people HIS story. Y'all can't write this mans script, let him go as the Spirit leads him. All this legality has to stop. Peace

Sammy Obi I swear I met some christians like that who don't want other christians to reach out to people who are not Christian. They treat Christianity like its a gang and churches like they're sets in the gang. They refuse to believe that God can be shown through how someone lives but rather believe you have to be a "preacher" to be the "best" Christian. I even see doctors being disrespected after treating people because christians want to show that "God treated them and not the doctors", like God can't work through the doctors brain and hands, and even though certain christians want to "give God the praise", they can at least respect the doctor by not criticizing his life work.

Man i love people and I love Jesus so much. But when i see judgmental Christians, it just opens my eyes to why the world is so accepting of us. Its cuz of how much hate u see in ppl and their blinded righteousness spatting scripture as if they're Jesus himself. And its not the script thats bad, nor is it the faith. Its the communication and misunderstanding of intent that really fuels the hate towards this community. I feel so bad for Lecrae seeing some of these ppl acting so ignorant mistaking his comfort in himself and godliness as sin. I'll never be ashamed of the gospel, but im certainly ashamed of these "christians".

According to who and what authority? because The word of God (Bible) says not to partake/“cheer on” sin. Christians are supposed to Judge righteous Judgment and it’s better to openly REBUKE and tell the truth, so they can repent and don’t harm themselves as well as the Body (the Church). Entire books in the Bible on this matter. What you said, is another gospel.

Music is music. Evangelism is Evangelism. Its in their own spheres in their own time. Lecrae isn't confined as a Christian. Christianity doesn't bound nor is it isn't bound. It redeems. It saves & restores in love. "You come as you are." 'Success is what can I do compared to me.' 'Industry is work.' 'It High School, I don't got time for that.' 'No expectations.' 'Its whatever.' 'If you're down you're down but if not, then its all good.' Beautiful responses in honesty. Just wisdom. laughter & love. 'I'm good now.' 'I can pay for new new pride and new ego.' lol. 'Crae is hilarious. Passing wisdom and love on people. What we gotta do as Christians. Engage people and when the time is right, dialog and philosophize. 'Zero, no cost.' For losing your family a year for $$___Million. Peace. HammerXTime! He passed! Wisdom, truth, and love matters in front of the camera and backstage. 'Can't have my right hand knowing what my left hand doing, how I'm gon' be worried what the next man doing.'

Read your bible and get on your knees and pray to God for more direction. I am proud of your accomplishment in the music industry but we as true believers/christians are not to "love the things of the world" and not compromise who we are to get ahead. I hope you'll take a step back and take a look of where God has blessed you to be and what talent He Himself has given you and feel compelled to continue to "inspire, impact, and equip" future generations through rapping and teaching the Word of God."

Why do/should you care about what other people label you as in the first place? Either way if you speak on it or not, people are always going to say what they want about you, look at you in a certain way and have these preconceived thoughts about you. But you'll never be able to put reigns on it and steer it the way you want to because you can't and never will able to control people and what they choose to say and think. So there's no real reason why he SHOULD care about it. The only time that he would care about it is if he's insecure. I'm not trying to judge or anything because I don't know him personally, but he gets on these radio shows and acts like he has to keep reminding everybody that he doesn't want to be labeled as a Christian rapper or artist and that's fine. He doesn't have to be. My thing is, he's been saying this very thing for a few years now. I mean we get it. I saw him at Winter Jam in Atlanta a few years ago and he also felt the need during his set to remind everybody that he's not doing this for himself but for God. Nobody said he wasn't in that moment. If he truly is secure in God than he wouldn't/shouldn't need to keep reminding people or care about what they think. That's just my opinion.

It’s very sad that so many Christians haven’t matured to a level of understanding the grace of god and that it’s an unmerited gift.... they haven’t reached the maturity level to know that when your in gods hands no one can pluck you out.... coming from the projects or you could say an urban area I understand the stereotypical mind state of the urban kids they hear Christian rapper and it’s just wack by the name alone people run away and don’t want to listen they already assume it’s corny and boring so they don’t even listen... but Jesus said he who has ears let them hear.... if Lecrae wants to not label himself to reach an expanded following of fans so be it a lot of these kids grow up and never hear about god the lifestyles they live make them products of there environment they steal cuss smoke drink even at times commit murder not to say other people don’t do these same things but that’s besides the point my point is... if Lecrae and take away this preconception of him being a “Christian” rapper only then maybe these kids that get a chance to listen will catch on and say wow it’s actually really good music slowly and slowly they start listening to his music more which in turn steers them a little further then the usual filthy hip hop they listen to now .... eventually they start asking questions such as yeah Lecraes music is good but I never hear him cuss I never hear him say the n word or talk about drugs and sex and jewelry mostly typical things that most worldly rappers would talk about ... then they do some research and find out he’s a Christian rapper... which leads them to maybe say wow I can relate to this guy and his music and it glorifies god on top of that he’s a Christian ....they might start to turn from there ways and say this Christ thing ain’t so bad I can still be myself listening to the genre of music they prefer and not be so bad maybe they learn some scriptures through his songs and start searching where it came from next thing you know they have a bible in their hands reading the word of god the life the bread of our lord how amazing is that eventually they turn from all there ways and repent and come to Christ and have everlasting life wow isn’t that beautiful isn’t that a beautiful thing....yet you guys want to belittle him and claim he’s not a true believer yet what are you doing acting as the Pharisees holier then thou... all he’s trying to do is win souls and this way he can reach another crowd that he would never of been able to catch.... I get your point be bold not ashamed but he doesn’t deny he’s a Christian he Denys being a Christian rapper on media this way at the end of the day that label gets swept away and now in turn he’s catching the lost ears that need the word... it’s all about growing in Christ and understanding his grace we all sin differently but god knows your heart and what your intentions are gods eyes never close he sees you when ever no body else can. I pray for you that need your eyes opened God also uses words to save the world. “How are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?” (Romans 10:14).
