He says this so that when some presents his music to someone of the world they don’t see the “label christian rapper” and think of Corny rap. Trust me if he wasn’t himself he’d be doing the things of the world. Plus as a Christian were called to save the lost. He has never changed he’s been the same guy since day one. A lot of people over look this and think he has sold out or changed. I promise you he hasn’t you would see such a big difference. Bless up.

Okay..to each their own! However, many speak to what they have been taught and or groomed to believe! One can, in fact believe in a higher power but do not submit to religion! Furthermore, with the many, written words of man over the years, how can one truly free themselves of what is real and what is fact unless they open their mind and believe in a god. Words typically have no say so on raw emotional connection!

The problem is people think Christianity will stifle/hold back your creativity, when in reality it enhances it. To not use certain words (Profanity and vanity) takes a whole other level of creativity, especially when it comes to rap. Gotta keep lecrae prayed up for his influence is too strong.
@joshthomas7597
@joshthomas7597 4 жыл бұрын
You’re right, and Lecrae has never said that he isn’t a Christian, or that being a Christian while making music would impede on his creativity. But labelling his music as “Christian Rap” would exclude a lot of people from getting to hear it because they would automatically assume it was going to be cheesy and lame. Like he said in the video. Lecrae has never denied being a Christian or a follower of God, he just doesn’t want his music to be put in a box, because then he wouldn’t be able to reach as many people as he does. And if you listen to his music, Lecrae has never used profanity or vanity in his music at all.

“If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless. Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.” ‭‭James‬ ‭1:26-27‬ ‭ The issue isn’t religion, it’s men with evil intent twisting what was meant for good for his own gain. It’s like saying knives are evil. Knives in themselves can’t be evil because they don’t contain a conscience and morals. But a man can use a knife to commit evil against someone else. The knife doesn’t go to trial and get locked up, the main does.

But I think the distinction Lecrae is drawing is that no one calls other artists "Christian singer" or "Christian gospel artist" or "Christian choir". Lecrae doesn't want to be lumped into a genre of sound with "Christian Rappers" who will almost always misunderstand the purpose of rap as art. They attempt to create worship music and nothing else, even though rap is so versatile as a storyteller and a mode for confessions. Lecrae wants the freedom to make all kinds of music, even some songs without the mention of God (which is perfectly godly, just ask Esther and Ecclesiastes)

First off, Lacrae is coming from a worldly standpoint and is there to pacify TI. If he is a TRUE follower of Jesus Christ, then he would explain what the bible says about "religion" in the book of James, and let TI know all religion is NOT bad according to the bible. Also, he would make a clear distinction for TI, between the institutional church, and Jesus's church that he spoke on in the bible, but I know he didn't because he never does. He clearly wants what the world wants, accolades, awards, recognition, fortune, and fame PERIOD.

Lecrae doesn't identify as a 'Christian Rapper' because he's not. Yes, the 116 platform is based on biblical truth but that doesn't necessarily mean that everyone in 116 is a 'Christian Rapper'. Lecrae is a rapper that makes music about his experiences and faith. Just like Post Malone makes music about relationships. Just like NF makes music for therapeutic reasons. Just like J Cole and Kendrick Lamar make music to tell deep stories with deeper thought. The list goes on. Lecrae is a dope rapper. You don't need 'Christian' tattooed on your forehead to know that you are 'Christian'.

I'll take your man" them: oh no, I don't really listen to the lyrics like that. I just listen to the beat. me: so if he rapped over that beat you'd be fine with it? *beings to plays freestyles lecrae did over various popular rap beats* them: nah I don't really like what he's saying though. i'm not into religion like that. me: I though u just listened to the beat though? 🤔 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄so beats can be religious now? If you don't like certain kinds of music, fine. but don't lie about the reasoning. It's funny people magically hear lyrics when it's something they don't like but only hear the beat on songs they do like.

Religious people scare people away from religion because they use it in a way to put themselves on a petastil. The problem with Christianity is people don't really read the Bible for themselves.They just hear what some Christians do and say and don't like it. If they did they would realize that it's not about religion it's about a relationship with Christ. Hope you guys will read and make up your OWN mind. God bless !!

Everyone should read for themselves and from they own relationship with God. But there is nothing wrong with fellowshipping with others who believe in God in one building, no matter how big or small. I am a Child of God. And I enjoy going to church. I just know that people in church including some ministers & pastors are not perfect humans. You can not judge & blame all churches on the thoughts and religious beliefs of others. I see church as a building to go to & praise God with others. So, even if I’m not in that building I can still praise God with like minded children of God, Christians. Read the word for yourself.
@Mannythedon24

Everything you said I agree with. That was spot on. Us Christians are still humans. We will mess up. Sin I’m inevitable, everyone will sin in this lifetime. Getting to know Christ for yourself, and having your own relationship is the only way you get into the Kingdom of heaven. You can’t go off of what others do or say. Can it affect you sure but God calls every man and woman to “choose ye this day”. A lot of craziness has happened in the name of religion Christ or not. It’s still up to you on the individual level to figure out and read about who this Christ is in the Bible. He didn’t come to make people perfect. He came to redeem us back unto the father. It’s sad because you see people who don’t believe in Christ just waiting on Christians to fail and they point out their sins and failures. When the scriptures clearly talks about not comparing yourself to someone else. It’s sad but that’s the state of the world today.
@gild651

I don't agree. Wars that killed millions of people were fought in the name of religion. Scriptures are interpreted differently depending on who you talk to or which church you attend. Large parts of the Bible were removed because it did not aid a motive of certain kings and others in power. Religion is just a tool used by those in power.

Here's the thing with Lecrae he goes on and on since dropping Church Clothes vol 1 in 2012 trying to distance himself from being a Christian rapper going on talking about he spiritual-but-not-religious or he doesn't ascribe to a religion however this man is a member of a church, this man believes the Holy Bible is the word of God, not a book about God, or someone's perspective about God, but is the very literal word of God. This man believes Jesus Christ is God the Son, God incarnate In the Flesh, not just a good moral teacher, or leader to pattern our lives after, but he literally believes that the faith in the life, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven. At any of his concerts there's always a Time where there is an offering if you will to go towards World Vision a Evangelical Christian charity group. He doesn't drink alcohol, smoke, cuss, etc.. not because it's a personal choice but because it's his firm conviction that those things are not in agreement with the Holy Bible which again he believes is the literal word of God. Therefore every time this dude tries to separate himself from the Christian religion he's doing a disservice to two group's... Christians who've supported him and continue to support him even with his deviation from being as open about his religion, and then the non-religious secular group because he's just making it out as if he just about positivity, unity, etc.. etc.. either way it doesn't personally affect me the man's actions have no effect on my life in the way I choose to live it, but it's easy to see the dude just plays both sides of the fences because he knows if he completely turned his back on the Christian group he realizes that's where the majority of his Fame and Fortune comes from and if he distance himself from the secular world then he'll just be looked at as another one of them holier-than-thou religious nuts. I honestly feel bad for the dude, it's got to be hard walking the line, instead of just being and doing what you want to do. If you want to be Christian and promote Jesus then do it more power to you, you want to just be rapping and making your paper doing it for the culture then do it, more power to you. Just quit playing both sides man! people on both sides of the fence really look at you suspect, and no one really respects you, you're just a token to the one, and credibility to the other, and who's who really just depends on what time of the day it is.

First let me say this, I always hear people try to credit Lacrea with Being THE pioneer of Gospel rap and he had a role bringing it more into light but that's not entirely true. I cannot talk about the start of truth Muzic unless we go way back to the 90's. There was a group of 3 ex gang members that found JESUS, and simply called themselves GOSPEL GANGSTERS and they were very popular and did collaborations with some very big names, and Muzic waz dope. Nobody gives them credit cause nobody knows how far back truth music goes. 2cd, I really like lacrea but this whole I'm not a christian rapper stance sounds like straddle the fence type stance and to me a waste of time. This my stance. I LOVE GOD MORE THAN ANYTHING IN THIS WORLD AND DON'T CARE WHAT YOU.THINK ABOUT IT. He lost me with his latest hit. It has the N-word being played on gospel stations all day long. They don't even play that on general hip hop stations. I'm upset with the stations for bot blocking it but he could have EASILY said brother/a. Things will come but woe from whom they come. Congrats to being the first "Christian rapper" to have the Nword said on national radio in your song.

Lecrea is not being honest he made out like he has always been stating that he is a rapper who happens to be a Christian and not a gospel rapper. He switched to that as he made his move to become popular in the secular worldly rap industry a few years back. Previously he was a Christ exclusive rapper with strictly Christian/Biblical/Gospel content. I'm not judging him but it's like these guys use the church market place in order to springboard to where they really want to go, then when they get the opening they start marketing themselves as Christian doing secular music then they start doing collabs with the unsaved. If I can remember rightly Lecrea started out with Cross Movements, it doesn't get more in your face gospel rap than that. I think Cross movements were one of the the first ground breaking evangelistic gospel rap groups out there.

I have never heard any Lecrae where he doesn't rap about other issues alongside God tho, but I may not go back far enough to know what you mean? The thing is, contemporary christian music is rarely viewed on the same level of artistry as other genres. And I think it is partly because it tends to be much more insular and narrow in both focus and sound, when compared with Lecrae. I can understand why he wants/deserves to be respected as a rapper, rather than pidgeon-holed as 'christian-rap'. And as with Zaytoven, he probably does more to spread good messages and build bridges by NOT identifying as strictly for the church. I was raised in the church, and also left...it was too limiting for where I wanted/needed to go. But respect to those who hold it down authentically, and with justice for all people.

Hip Hop rappers make worldly music, i mean anyone can correct me if I’m wrong In my opinion if God would of gave me the talent to rhyme I would be doing it to glorify the body at all times. And not just say one or two things about the walk or mention the name Jesus in a song and thing that’s good or cool I don’t think God will be pleased if you use the talent He gave you for anything else that’s wrong plus calling yourself a CHRISTIAN RAPPER WHATS WRONG WITH THAT? To me it sound like he being ashamed to be called a Christian rapper, own it bro God gave you the gift. But you know how many Christians/Believers are today they wanna be doing things like having bible studies without the Bible, having bible studies with spiritual books, they want to have one foot in and one foot out, we can not have it both ways and the irony is 116 is to rep Romans 1:16 if you not ashamed of the gospel put more gospel in your music, rep Christ in calling yourself a Christian rapper, well that’s if your doing it for Him just saying...as one who is ready to go, I have nothing, I am nothing without Christ I’m Christian everything...I’m the Praying Barber idk what the world thing, God gifted my hands to cut hair I rep Him...well that’s just my two cents...to each their own 🤷🏻‍♂️ I just pray that He changes that thought frame, to me I wouldn’t care what you titled me as long as the Father, Son and Holy Spirit is getting the glory and honor for my music!

It’s all about Him not me that’s why I personally would title myself as a Christian rapper we are to stand out, bible tells us to be a peculiar people, we are in the world but not of this world. 24/7 bro 24/7 He died for us why short change the Lord

@@613realist Lecrae said he was a christian in this 5 minute clip & yet you're stuck on him not wanting to be labeled as a Christian rapper. What's Christ like about you judging him for that when he never denied Christ? All I'm seeing is a whole lot of judgemental & hypocritical saved folks nitpick a label when other christian artists have the same view as not wanting to use that label (NF, Switchfoot & TFK). Jesus came for the sick, the lost & the hurting. You're found in Christ, great & Jesus belongs to everyone. So if taking the label off of a PROFESSION draws more ppl in to how he lives his life while following Jesus, why are you so against that? Who you are & what you do are not the same thing. If it doesn't why isn't he a labeled as a black christian rapper, or a man, husband, brother, father, friend, black christian rapper or anyone else for that matter? Using any label in your PROFESSION doesn't make someone more or less of all the things they are.

The difference is Lecrae is talking about organized religion, when someone is somehow either profiting or gaining power from their brothers and sisters. He doesn't believe in the power of the higher ups in the modern Catholic Church. Stuff like that. But I think he does believe in community, in giving alms, and so much more. He doesn't classify it as "religion" because "religion" is now synonymous with race, gender, and social class. T.I. thinks Lecrae means that he believes in worshiping a God without sharing truths, and without having a community. T.I. assumes Lecrae just wants to have a Christian faith with himself. This video clip is evidence of a huge misunderstanding between both of them. Kind of a shame really because Lecrae makes great points he just messed up some semantics here and there

Travis Johnson but if you only sell vegan food do you not say “we sell vegan food” it’s called direct marketing. Let’s be honest the industry is sooooo hard to succeed and be noticed in. But Lecrae “boxing himself in” actuality created a niche for him. Now he is literally THE BIGGEST gospel rapper of ALL TIME. If he throws that “label” away someone else will take it. And Lecrae will fade into a murky ambiguous area that no one notices. Not labeling yourself is detrimental to any brand. It’s more about owning the label and controlling it. But I do agree with your point about the white evangelical church. The church has to stand up for all that is good not just what suits white america.

When we take to heart people's opinions and views, we begin to try to please people, instead of pursuing our passions. The biggest problem most people have with lecrae, is that what he use to warn others to stay away from, he has become that. That in itself would confuse anybody, especially if there is no clear cut explaination. We can say that we have evolved in a certain understanding, but at least explain it. However if you listen to anything before gravity it’s laced with bible verses and etc Jesus this or that explicitly. This is why is fan base and been fractured because when he started saying he wasn’t a Christian rapper his music stopped talking about Jesus and the gospel as much. As for me I still rock with most his music Lecrae on his first album calls other Christian rappers out for it being more about them than Jesus only for all these years later for him to basically do the same.

His personality and the way he carries himself should already dictate that he is a follower of Christ. Why is this hard to understand?

It’s not hard to understand. He’s just a clown lol. Denying Christ to “spread the gospel” is redundant.

Hopefully the answer is in the full interview. T.I asked Crae how long has he been married and and asked the question twice. Either Lecrae doesn't remember or he's in the dog house 😂 because he never answered.

He said 14 years. TIP re-asked because he meant "married married" as in: when the honeymoon phase is over. Listen closely 3:40

It's not that hard to understand 🙄He calls himself a rapper who is a Christian because he tired of people putting him in a box. I dont know about his music but maybe he wants to rap about real issues in our world and he cant do that if yall label him a "Christian rapper". Cause as a "Christian Rapper, if he rap about anything other than God/Jesus yall religious folks gone lose yall mind
