The last few projects he's dropped have been about exploring the wounds he's experienced from practitioners of his same religion, finding ways to bind himself to God after enduring traumatic experiences, and struggling with finding his place in the world and in history. Deep End, Restored, and 10 Toes are three songs from Restoration that have seriously stand out as these. Spread the Opps, Still in America, Fear Not, and ESPECIALLY Deconstruction have been incredible insights into this mindset in this album alone. It's no secret that American Christianity is very mono-cultural, typically fearing/shunning people that practice the religion faithfully and truthfully but without embodying the same cultural identity that the Christian culture usually promotes and puts forward. That's had a substantial impact on his life, and you're seeing that wrestling played out in his most projects over the last 6 or 7 years. Lecrae is a person going through human experiences, and his Christian identity is reflected in the music he makes. It's not always songs that explicitly and only say "God is good, praise him" in a happy tone. But just about every single song he makes showcases his loyalty to God and highlights his struggles in life, but focusing them in a Godly perspective. Basically saying that he's going to bind himself to God in a faithful, biblically sound way, even if it makes people angry in the way that he does it. Perfectly Christian message, embodied in incredibly interesting and unique music.
