I have been watching quite a few different videos from popular youtube channels on the topic presented here (in various stages). This video was by far the best because you explained what is NOT a binary operation... and that helped tremendously with my understanding. Thank you for making this video.

Better write (C-{0} , + , •) is a field, instead of (C,+,•) since 0 has no inverse for multiplication , same for (R,+,•)☺

The existence of multiplicative inverse is required for all elements of the field except the additive identity, i.e., 0 in case of real numbers. Therefore both R and C are fields. We do not need to exclude zeros. Thank you www.nochalkacademy.com

@@NoChalkAcademy Ma'am, same thing is taught in NPTEL lectures of computer science discrete maths syllabus. we have group theroy. those faculties also taught us that (R, .) is not a group , it is only monoid. ma'am can you suggest any book which can clear this doubt ? please ?

Can anyone explain how does the real numbers become a field? the multiplicative inverse of the number zero does not exist.

I believe in the definition of fields that is supposed to be addressed. That did not happen in this video, unfortunately. The reals +,* are certainly a field, the multiplicative inverse must hold for all real numbers other than zero

That’s not the definition of binary operations. Thats the definition for closure under a binary operation. Completely different things.

Pls clear a doubt that in Set R we don't find any multiplicative inverse of 0 then it doesn't satisfied the property which is existence of inverse w.r.to multiplication operation then how R is field....
