I'm 50 I've been a qualified electrician 27 yrs .I started wiring houses then industrial was self employed from 2001 to 2016 when I got a maintenance job in a factory. My work is preventative maintenence which is predominantly mechanical. I always had a flair for switching arrangements and motor control so now I want to take it to the next level

Do industrial automated systems with let's say PLCs count as mechatronics?

A PLC can be part of a mechatronic system, but is not a mechatronic system in and of itself.
