In this lecture, we’ll discuss the importance of nothingness or emptiness, the unseen aspects of our lives, discuss the profound meanings behind the Taoist saying "Out of nothing comes something" (无中生有) and the Buddhist teaching "Emptiness gives rise to wondrous existence" (空生妙有) and at the end we’ll discuss The Interplay of Form and Emptiness in Human Existence, unveiling the Secret Between Our Bodies-the Tangible Form and Our Consciousness-the Unseen Dimensions.
天篇 第五章 无得其用,有得其利
三十輻,共一轂,當其無,有車之用;
埏埴以為器,當其無,有器之用。
鑿戶牖以為室, 當其無,有室之用;
故有,以為利,無,以為用。
Chapter 5 of the Heaven section.
Profit comes from what is there;
Usefulness comes from what is not there.
Thirty spokes converge upon a single hub;
it is the hole in the center that makes it useful.
Clay is shaped into a vessel;
it is the empty space within that makes it useful.
Doors and windows are cut to make a room;
it is the empty space within that makes it useful.
Thus, we benefit from what is there but use what is not.
