If you're interested in general beam deflections, search for Global Beam Deflection Equations, a 3-video set showing the derivation and use of a single deflection equation that works for multiple beam/load combinations, or visit the website shown there.

***** For calculating how much load the wooden beam can hold make sure you know the allowable bending stress and shear stress(not as important as bending stress) of the wooden material you are using. Divide this allowable stress with a factor of safety. Then using sigmab=Mmax/section modulus you can find the maximum point load you can hang from a certain point on the beam. For this find an expression for Bending Moment M on the simply supported beam in terms of Load(P). For knowing how much weight the cable can carry, equate Load/area=allowableTensileStress/factorOfSafety. From that you will get an idea of the maximum load. Consider the least Load found from the two mentioned cases and make sure whatever you do, do not exceed that load on the beam or cable.
