Thanks for the video. As a retired fire dept captain, one thing I noticed in the background was the smoke detector location. We always teach that it should never be closely adjacent to a corner, whether mounted on wall or ceiling, as that can be in a "dead air" space. I would recommend moving it out 18 - 24" from the wall. Also, since October is Fire Prevention Month, just a friendly reminder to: - test your smoke detectors once a month - change batteries when you change your clocks - teach your children, and the rest of the family, emergency escape plan, and do the drill!! - check expiration dates on your detectors!! They should be updated at least every ten (10) years (new technology, sensitivity, etc.) Sorry... old firefighter prevention habits never die!! 😊
@DetroneDoesItАй бұрын
Thanks for the helpful information. Luckily I test my detectors regularly when I install new air filters monthly, Kiddos know the escape plan and meeting points and my home is only 5 years only so hopefully they are not expiring anytime soon. I was unaware of the dead air space concept (here’s a quick definition from the internet for others who might also be curious👇🏽 “A dead air space is an area in which trapped hot air will prevent smoke from reaching the alarm. This space generally occurs at the apex of cathedral ceilings, the corner junction of walls and ceilings and between exposed joists etc.”) Thanks for watching and sharing tips!

Thanks for the video. So you have two black and two white from the fixture. Do you attach both the black from the fixture to the one black from the light and do the same for the white?
@DetroneDoesIt4 ай бұрын
Sorry for the late response but Yes, just connect those to the corresponding color on your light. That should also be the way it looks when you disconnect your original light. My ceiling is prewired for a ceiling fan (red wire) which is a secondary hot wire attached to the black as well, since there isn't currently a fan in there.
@DetroneDoesIt4 ай бұрын
Those duel black wires actually look like they were coming from the old light fixture. If you go to the 2:11 mark in the video you can see the old fixture has 2 black and 2 white... but the direction is the same, if you have duel wires of the same color for the same fixture you would connect them to the corresponding wire in the ceiling.

Before removing and installing, do we need to turn off electricity for entire house or just the switch??
@DetroneDoesIt7 ай бұрын
You just want to turn off the electricity to the breaker that controls that switch. Your breaker box should be labeled to make it easy to find. Then make sure you test it (try turning the light on) to ensure it’s completely off before installing the new one.

Sorry I didn’t give the close up on that part but my ceilings have Cooper ground wires in them that were pre-installed and just capped off…. So I attached my ground to that. If your mounting bracket has metal grounding screw then you can ground it to that.

@ DETRONE How do you change the Led in them when they burn out ?
@DetroneDoesIt8 ай бұрын
So I don’t believe that you actually replace the LED, you would just replace the fixture. It’s said to give 50,000 hours of light… which would be a minimum of 5 years worth of use. Here’s how I looked at the math… - 50,000 hours/24 hrs a day= 2,083 days worth of light - 2,083/365= 5.7 years of continuous lighting according to the manufacturer’s claim. - $43/5.7= $7.54 per year of cost for the fixture if you ran it consistently for 5.7 years. But I’ll do a little more research to make sure the LED’s aren’t replaceable… BRB 😂 (also thanks for watching)

I had an LED fixture like that installed in my kitchen and after about 6 months it started flickering. Then it got very dim and still flickers. Defective light or installation problem???
@DetroneDoesIt Жыл бұрын
Could be a defective light but it’s more likely that there is a “less than secure” connection where the wires meet. I am experiencing that with one of the fixtures I put up recently, where it is flickering, so my first step to resolving it is going to ensure a quality connection.
@chellezcustomz10 ай бұрын
I hope this doesn’t sound silly but what did you connect the ground wire with? Does it just connect to something metal or does it go inside one of the caps?
@DetroneDoesIt10 ай бұрын
Mine is attached to the copper ground wire inside my electrical box, but some setups will have a support bar with a screw (sometimes green) that you can connect it to.

Mine doesn’t have a ground??? wtf. My house has the ground wire but the fixture does not. I can’t just cap it and call it a day.
@DetroneDoesIt7 ай бұрын
If you fixture didn’t come with a wire for a ground I would research if it was suppose it (which it probably should have) then possibly return it and get another. If it is some kind of light designed without a ground, you can just cap off your ground wire in your ceiling.

How do change the color?
@DetroneDoesIt Жыл бұрын
You change the color with a switch on the back of the light, so to adjust it you’ll need to take the light off each time… but it is compatible with a dimmer switch, so you could install that and change the color from your wall switch.
@dutchray8880 Жыл бұрын
@@DetroneDoesItThere are some set-ups that are even easier. I just put up a couple of LED flushmounts in my basement. They were Calloway Adjustable Color 11in. The fixture hangs from the mounting bracket while you make the splices (I used WAGO connectors), and the color adjustment is on the side. To adjust the color, you just have to remove the cover ring and change the switch position with the fixture still mounted. They replaced a couple of huge florescent fixtures, and they were fairly inexpensive.
@HeadedNorthPodcast Жыл бұрын
I do wish I had done just a bit of research on that light and buying one that had the light adjustment switch on the side. Although when I install dimmers, that won’t be a big concern… right now it does create a bit more work to change the color.
@dutchray8880 Жыл бұрын
@@HeadedNorthPodcast One other thing about the Calloway lights is that there's a lot of room in the back of the light for wires.
@DetroneDoesIt Жыл бұрын
