LED High Beam Upgrade On My Explorer

I have a 2016 ford police Utility at 7:23 seconds in the video what is that light called and how do I get it to turn on my explorer ?

That's a daytime running light. The PIUs don't use them. You will have to use forscan to turn that on if the harness and led is still intact. I've heard of some non-PIU Explorers turning them off via forscan.

@Tommmy2dads PIUs don't have the same drls as Explorers. If when you turn on drls and the amber turns come on that's the PIU drl.

That was the first thing I did was got rid of those nasty yellow high beams. Still don't understand why they didn't go with LED high beams 🤷‍♂️

Adjust it so the led chips are facing left and right instead of up and down and watch the difference 🔥it’ll blow your mind. Happened on my buddies and I adjusted it for him and it’s 100X better

I just went from a 02 exploder limited to a 16 exploder limited. I had put insane bright leds in my 02. And you are right the high beams are sickening on 16. Im going to led like i do to everythin. but thank you for the tip on air flow to cooling fans on bulbs. Gonna pass that info on to a friend who keeps having issues with his leds his caps are still on and solid.

Also my 02 being a limited had separate high n low bulbs also. It was something like 350,000 lumens per pair.. 😂😂

As someone mentioned in the comments. Make sure the "chips" are facing 3, and 9 o'clock for best beam patterns.

If any of you guys need a place to upgrade your back 2 dome lights to LED let me know. I found out the back lights are built it LED’s to a circuit board and found an LED shop that upgrades them. You just gotta ship out your dome lights. Takes about a week or so.

Hey, sorry to hear that your low beam stopped working...this requires you to replace the entire house unfortunately. Ford designed the lows to be none serviceable.

I suggest you check the fuse first. Hopefully you just had a fuse go bad.

They put the halogen in the high beams for inclement weather, snow/rain. The lower color temperature cuts through the weather, the higher color temp like the pure white of the led is good for seeing a little further in clear conditions, but in bad weather it blinds you. Thats why baja trucks use amber light bars instead of white.

Right that's why "fog" light are usually amber or a different color than low beam. High beams don't come on when it rains automatically so why would that be the reason? What you outlined would be the job of a "driving" light or a fog light to cut through fog/weather.

The high beams come on (for my Explorer) automatically as needed say if it's too dark not if the weather is bad. So how is the color of the high beams Ford choose relevant to bad weather as you mentioned if they come on when it's too dark?

I disagree. Halogen work good but LED is better in my opinion. I could see halogen working better in the Fog or snow due to the color difference but that's about it. Manufacturers use halogen because it's cheaper. Why do you think 99% of new cars have LED'S for high beams?

I think you need the 401A package for auto high Beams. If you look at the front side of your rear view mirror on the right side you should see a small white box. If you have that then you have automatic high beams. Otherwise I'm not sure if that can be added with a auto mirror and forscan

It came with LED low Beams. I added LED to the high beam. Just type in year make and model on Auxito website to know which one works.

Thanks. I went to Auxito. It does says highbeam. But, is it considered also as low beam. 9005 led bulb. It doesn't say lowbeam anywhere except for highbeam.

You're welcome. Might have something to do with how Ford did the low beam. I think I heard the entire housing would need to be replaced for the low. I'm not 100% on that though.

Wow someone mentioned to me the Platinum comes with LED high beam...I guess not. I'll link it here. I also don't see a listing for 2019. As long as your High Beams use a 9005 bulb this should work otherwise search LED and then your bulb for a kit. kensun.com/collections/9005/products/led_kit_9005_regular_with_cree_chips

I tried a lot of LED’s halogens and HID’s, if your headlights come with a reflector you can get LED’s but for projectors they don’t work well, HID is the one that shines the farthest but LED lights everything very good but at a closer distance, HID’s don’t work for high beams, LED are decent for high beams but if you want the brightest high beam you have to use a higher output halogen bulbs, I tried so many bulbs for everything and wasted a lot of money until I found the right ones 😓

maybe not ... but its as slow as the led ... dont know if that difference is like 3 to 5 seconds difference .. but I think leds are fast but only by a milliseconds so that difference is not that quite large ...
