Welcome to another step by step installation video on a #jonboattobassboat project here at #brigadeboats .
In this video, I will show you the step by step installation of led strip lights on the exterior hull of a 14ft jon boat. The led lights we use specifically are made by Plashlight and are 100% water proof and very bright. The Plashlight leds come in a variety of lengths and can be used inside and outside (like we did) the boat hull, or on trailer bunks. They can even be submerged under water! The installation is super easy and diy friendly.
These led lights are installed on a customer's boat and he opted to use two sets of 12ft led strip lights. Four lights in total were installed. Two white, two green. I will walk you through the full process of the installation, show you all the tools and materials needed for the job, share some tips and tricks along the way, and do a full demonstration of the installed Plashlight led strip lights. They turned out awesome.

Great job Anthony. I’ve put them on two boats already. I have a question for you I seen on you boat build what a great job you did. My nephew has a boat he use’s for striper fishing and it needs the wood and carpet replaced. Do you do it for the public ? He really wants to get it done and there is nobody around here that does. I installed 2 strips 24 feet. The end of the strip closest to the power source got so hot it melted the insulation. The load is less than 5 amps. Do I need a separate controller???

Well....they are waterproof as shown at the beginning of the video. Lights are solid infused led's, not a sealed hollow tube. I guess use you imagination buddy. Customer's boat as we just did the install, did not get any on water footage. You can see they are very bright at night so id multiply that x2 on the water.

These LED strips are fantastic, I used them in my INTERIOR lighting (red).Plashlights are the ONLY ones to use in my opinion and well worth the effort and money. Your install is excellent and well executed. My concern and the reason for my following comment is such. You have a green light on the port side of the boat , which is an incorrect display for navigational lighting. If you are UNDERWAY(moving ) and display the green lights(as well as your combination bow light) you are exhibiting improper navigational display and could cause confusion as to your intended direction of operation. Once at anchor and the anchor light is displayed, this lighting could be used in a safer manner. It is a major safety issue/concern you might want to interject in your video for the public's wellbeing . Local marine enforcement can cite you (Coast Guard on federal navigable waters as well) and possibly force the removal of the "hazard". Just trying to preclude any possible troubling situation. This ALSO applies to those who operate a light bar on their bow that is so bright it obscures the bow combination light from being seen while underway. I am not trying to be a "light nazi" just want to eliminate/ make aware,of a safety issue.

Nice, so my question is why run 2 lights? Why not get a strip with RGBW? The whites have gotten a lot better on some of the nicer strips.

Customer didn't want to. Plain and simple. RGB requires an addition module that's about 100 more. Plus you have to have a remote or a cell app. These reasons made in unappealing to customer, he inly wanted white and green on individual switches.

Yes. They are very expensive. They are a premium quality brand and 100% submersible. There are other cheap strip lights in the market but they are not equal.

Please provide feedback. I'm looking for real world input. My jon boat has the same gunwale and gunwale railing as yours. No lip to have the lights illuminating downwards. I want LED light strips in my duck boat. Seeing in the dark hours is needed and frequent. So, the Question. Are the lights too bright and affect your night vision ability while they are shining at you or even up towards your face?

There's cheaper ones out there for sure. Plashlight is high end quality lights and are actually used by OEM boat manufacturers on six figure plus saltwater boats. So yeah, they aren't putting Amazon 20$ leds on those boats. But yeah, I don't think their target market is jon boats lol. Best lights I've ever seen, installed, or used though.
