In regard to the audience, there might have been some rules if this was being recorded for television. However I saw 3 early Led Zeppelin concerts in a small venue, and sat quietly on the floor with everyone else. I was around 40 feet (10 meters) from the stage. Everyone sat quietly, totally focused on the music and performance. We were bedazzled, mesmerized, and amazed by what we saw and heard. I would recommend listening to the studio version of Babe I'm Gonna Leave You because the instrumentation, vocals, and emotion are a lot more powerful. If you like when Robert sings high notes, there are a lot more in the studio version. Even the lyrics were different and much better.

@kurtsaxton823 There is PLENTY WRONG with this version. First it is a very simplified version. 2nd , Jimmy's tones are rubbish and his playing mostly sloppy. Robert shows glimpses of what he can do, but sounds like he has a severe cold. And then the recording quality is poor and probably damaged.
@fixzeichner55928 ай бұрын
At this gig the band was still completely new. Robert and John were only 20 years old, Jimmy already had a career as a studio musician and guitarist for the Yardbirds and was 4 years older. Bassist John Paul was also an experienced studio musician. This is recorded in a small television studio, with a very small audience enjoying the completely new music. Back then, viewers on television stayed calm and listened carefully. It was different at big concerts, the audience roared and screamed.

The band and their sound were so new, Robert's voice 68-72 cannot be challenged! He and John (drums) are still 20 yrs old here! Live broadcast so this privileged audience has agreed not to shout or cheer during the performance, a strange concept of that time! They did very few tv appearances or even interviews, preferring instead to have people come check them live or buy their albums to hear this new sound they were making very popular! Check the studio version for this, it's a cover and re-arrangement that was magnificent for the 1st album. Also try some more off the 1st album, you will hear why they took off and became legendary in such a short time! ... "Good Times Bad Times" "Communication Breakdown" "How Many More Times" & "I Can't Quit You"

The young audience wasn’t allowed to make any sounds, imagine how hard that was, hearing & seeing them for the first time. This show is so cool to see, but the sound quality isn’t the greatest, but great to see the early rawness of them. Thank you for your reaction. Ola, you haven't heard "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" until you've heard the Official Audio. It's vastly superior. When Robert sings "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You", I swoon and I'm in my 60's! So don't stop crushing on Robert. Quite a few other female reactors have fallen under his spell also. I've learned from long time Zep fans to listen to the original recordings first (produced by Jimmy) and then the concert versions where they improvise. Look at it as the best of two worlds. Either react to the official audio of "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" or listen to it on your own time. Next: You should do "When the Levee Breaks". This is one of their epic songs, a cover of a blues song by Memphis Minnie and Kansas Joe back in 1929. OFFICIAL AUDIO ONLY. You will hear not only Robert sing but play the harmonica.

First saw some of these videos after buying the Led Zeppelin Dvd (2003). The main concert is Royal Albert Hall and is absolutely amazing. I remember putting it on for the first time and thinking, I'll watch the first song to see how they enter and start the show but then I'll just pick a couple of the songs I know and like already. The dvd started up, Zeppelin came out on stage and started playing, and the next thing I realized the show was over and they were walking off stage. I had watched the whole show in a daze and complete wonderment it was life changing. I can only imagine that see them in person would have the same affect, and have read that many people seeing Zeppelin for the first time felt overwhelmed and either stood still in awe or had to leave cause it was more then they could take.

Just on a quick note (min 5:50) the audience is not sleeping. The audience is paying respect. Listening to the song. Instead of disturbing it. Great example: when Deep Purple were playing Child in time for the 1st time. There was about 30seconds of silence from the audience, after they finished that song. Waiting, if it would continue. To give it this silence, if thzere was more to come. And I TOTALLY respect this behaviour, until today. To let this last tone of a song linger. And slowly fade. And only then:... Hint: u may wanna look for: Elephants by "Them crooked vultures". John Paul Jones, Josh Homme and Dave Grohl. Few folks seem to know about them as a band. Not a "plain and simple" song. But the fun they have, playing it: a pleasure to watch!
