Every time I listen to Zeppelin it feels like music and spirit is just bursting out of them. I can imagine them making this music even if they had no audience because it was in them and had to come out. Just happy they chose to share. Love them so much! I am 65 disabled and still have my precious vinyls to jam with. Fun having company , thanks for your channel.

One of their BEST. Not as much airplay as other songs, and they didn't play it live. I understand Miller's complaints about the song. When I first heard it as a kid, I liked it, but it left me confused. As I listened to it more, I understood the genius involved. It IS fragmentary - it hints at apocalypse, then brings you back to safety, and it does that TWICE. The fadeout is quite long, which really drives the positive aspect of the song home - it leaves one a sense of peace and resolution - yet there is still a whisper of doom that lingers. The song is a mind-bender.

I noticed your remark on music journalists - "if you can't control them then destroy them". The journalists of "Rolling Stone magazine" simply had an agenda against LZ, none more so than Lester Bangs who deemed them "completely without talent"!!! They were anything but talentless!!! Led Zeppelin didn't walk the usual path by appearing on "top of the pops" etc. They were definitely unique and gained their increased popularity and reputation by relentless touring in the US. I think it was the reviews of LZ III which eventually completely alienated them from the journalists. I don't remember the exact words but LZ III was considered something like a poor rip-off of CSNY:s "Déjà Vu"!!! Well, why compare them at all? Do you hear any harmony vocals on LZ III? They are both mainly acoustic albums, that's all. LZ eventually got their definitive revenge on Rolling Stone Magazine through the Kennedy Center awards by president Obama.

Im a Long Island NY raised grew up in the 70's listening to Led Zeppelin and always knew that all my musical needs were being filled. I want to thank you for revisiting/reviewing all of the songs with the passion I possessed back then. Your insight and ability to express the technicalities and compositional talents is long over due and refreshing. Had forgotten all about this song.......wow......WELCOME BACK! I’ve missed you and your wonderful, insightful reactions so much! Since Page is your favorite guitarist, have you watched the Celebration Day 2007 Concert movie? It is so marvelous to see him playing so wonderfully in his sixties. The Whole band puts on an outstanding performance, and it’s a joy to watch them together again and to see Jason Bonham basically channeling his dad’s spirit. Plant’s voice is still a powerhouse, although his high range is no longer there, his voice is still gorgeous. Kashmir from this concert is one of the best versions ever. Please, please do some live reviews from this concert which received universal accolades......

As always, STB, a fantastic review. You always go into these songs so deeply. You're the only one to do these reaction videos justice, particularly your Led Zep reactions. 👍 I'm sorry to disappoint here, but some shmuck on YT is trying to pull our legs with this so-called "live" video. This isn't live. It's an alternate studio take from the Physical Graffiti sessions from 1974. Somebody took that track and made a fake video out of it. 😤 LZ never once performed In The Light live, unfortunately. You can easily find this studio (or alternative) take on nearly any one of their Studio Sessions box sets that have been floating around for years. It is also on the PG deluxe set companion vinyl, though I think its edited a little. Its also included on the Coda deluxe set companion disc. Hope that helps

They changed things up because, one, yes they had the talent to do so. BUT, the main reason, which I have heard from listening g to many interviews with Plant and Page, was because the one thing they could not STAND was repetition and monotony. For Plant, it is his idea of hell. That’s the main reason Zeppelin didn’t reunite and do world tours and make hundreds of millions of dollars. Robert simply would not agree to doing what so many other bands from that era did; go on tour with their classic hits and play them over and over for their adoring fans. He got hated on allot, and still does, for that decision. But he has always followed his own muse.....constantly learning, constantly evolving. And all their improvisation onstage was for the same reason, to keep it fresh for THEMSELVES. Boredom was what they feared the most. As the late seventies set in, Plant was feeling that perhaps their collective creativity had been spent. And when John died, and they decided to disband, Plant never looked back, and deliberately tried to carve a new creative path for himself, which he did. As did Jones.

The range of innovation and versatility of this band is great. As for the "live" version, it is not, it is a previous version where they are in the early stages of composition and it is very interesting because you can hear the changes that are gradually made to polish a musical work. (The video is edited from other presentations and you can see that it does not coincide with the execution of the song)
