I bought this album as a 14 year old in 1979. I had Led Zeppelin I, II, IV, Houses of the Holy, Physical Graffiti, Presence and In Through the Out Door. I bought III at the time to merely say I had the complete catalog. And then I laid it down on my turntable. It became my favorite of all of them. I'm now 57. And I still lay the same vinyl album I bought as a 14 year old down on my turntable and just....well, hell. Just listen to the album and you will understand why. Peace.

I think it's possibly Page's best blues lead guitar from any LP. he's so soft when he wants to be, then he gives you a bolt of lightning. I happen to also think that tunes they were taken to court for, were actually terrific blues! from those 1st couple LP's. I've always thought it was incompetence by studio employees, that the true author (Willie Dixon)was not recognized by Led Zeppelin. they had nothing to gain, claiming ownership of royalties for blues songs that most often don't make any money, anyway. 'I can't quit you, babe',is outstanding blues whatever way you slice it. Plant was never better. as good, yes. better? no. and Page? damn. if Willie Dixon had a small piece of the entire LZ I LP, he'd get next to nothing. let alone, a hell of a song that won't make a nickel. when Johnny Winter, in the early-mid '70's went full blues, instead of part Rock, he immediately started making less money. his rock chops on guitar, drew people in. but he recorded w/ Muddy Waters, and toured w/ him after he dedicated himself to blues. he was a blues shredder, tho. I'd like to know the full story of the lack of credit Dixon went to court over. seems to me, since one or two Dixon tunes didn't make LED ZEPPELIN any money, that Willie didn't retire on his settlement. their money was made off of hits. 'Rock & Roll' .'Black Dog'. 'Whole lotta love, 'Stairway'.

@@johndoh6956 I think he means 7AM to 11 PM. ( Plant probably tried several rhymes, but numbers don't always cooperate).Rock stars don't work anyway. I don't think a good blues song can be written around a part time job. and Plant, back then, was a good blues singer.

I remember the day I fell in love with Led Zeppelin. I think I was 15, so 1977-78. I was familiar with the LZ songs that everyone heard on the radio. One day in school, a boy I barely knew loaned me his LZ II album. Played it softly at first, but by dinner time, it was cranking and my dad was yelling. 😄 The sound blew me away, and is unmistakably present in every song performed and recorded. By the time i handed back that boy's record on Monday morning, I had the lyrics, beat, and every guitar squeal of Whole Lotta Love ingrained in my memory, mind, and soul.❤

I was incredibly lucky! I was learning guitar SERIOUSLY, had learned every note of Led Zeppelin 1 & 2, and I got to see the last “New Yardbirds” show, the first time they hit Seattle, I saw them LIVE! In 1968 - 1969, and multiple times in ‘69 and ‘70, 2-3 times in ‘71. All the time watching Jimmy live, learning by not just LP’s but seeing him do things live that helped me develop my skills. BUT, when I heard the solo on “Since I Been Loving You” ...... when they change to Fminor and Page hits a high note and slides down to the exact perfect note to continue, I swear on my mothers’ grave, I FELL OFF THE CHAIR! Almost like a guitar is too good to even hear blackout or something. There is no lick that is hard, no trick, just pure gut feeling like I’ve never heard before, I made them play that solo over and over again, bribed them with what we called pot back in the 60’s and early 70’s... so they kept playing it. I am 70 years old, been on the road as a kid for 15 years, then at 30 got a real job, but to this day, that solo, only done by Jimmy, on that LP, gives me shivers every time. 16 or 70 years old, I am back in that room, hearing for the first time all over again.

Since there are dozens of comments on how unique and fresh, (with old folk instruments and licks), for those who are too young to know, this album was released with an inner wheel, which could be turned by rotating the edge of the cover, revealing a series of new art images, which would slid into place onto the die cut cover. Very revolutionary for it's day, and if you can find one with the vinyl in decent condition, grab it up and enjoy a different time of art and music, it's a real treat.

I was a teen in the 1980s. I hated most music on the radio. Zeppelin and he like (Hendrix, Cream, Sabbath, etc.) were exceptions and though I am about a decade younger but I still get chills from all these artists, or at least their earlier albums (Zeppelin's and Sabbath's later albums were not nearly as good as their earlier albums for me).

I had saved as soon as I heard they were coming and just got the clipping out of the Chicago Trib for tickets to the Nov shows in 1980 the day before his death. I had the coupon clipped with the money order for $62, my brother and me (he was my ride) and our ladies, in an envelope with all the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th dates checked. Of course my first choice was for Sat the 15th. I had all sealed up and stamped ready to go. I never had the chance to mail it back in. I remember it like it was yesterday. RIP John.

8/25/2024 I like how each cut is spotlighted on the label as it's being played. I saw them perform in September of 1971. I was in the army and I wrote in my journal to the effect 'I enjoyed the concert but the one song I really enjoyed was "That's the Way", side 2 cut 3. That said, I've told many, many times down through the years after an intermission Jimmy P. came out by himself and announced 'this is on our next album (Led IV). listen to it'. It was Stairway to Heaven. The others joined him as their parts dictated. What a memory.
