I really love this song and always have. I don’t know why it stands out to me. Maybe the story about the hippies in the park, that’s what I remember of the late 60’s and early ‘70’s. We used to pick up hitchhikers, no problem, and we all share our pot, and actually shared time sitting around listening to music or out in the open at concerts.

Just remembered it! On a morning from a Bogart movie In a country where they turn back time You go strolling through the crowd like Peter Lorre Contemplating a crime She comes out of the sun in a silk dress running Like a watercolor in the rain Don't bother asking for explanations She'll just tell you that she came In the year of the cat She doesn't give you time for questions As she locks up your arm in hers And you follow 'till your sense of which direction Completely disappears By the blue tiled walls near the market stalls There's a hidden door she leads you to These days, she says, I feel my life Just like a river running through The year of the cat While she looks at you so cooly And her eyes shine like the moon in the sea *She comes in incense and patchouli* So you take her, to find what's waiting inside The year of the cat Well morning comes and you're still with her And the bus and the tourists are gone And you've thrown away your choice you've lost your ticket So you have to stay on But the drum-beat strains of the night remain In the rhythm of the newborn day You know sometime you're bound to leave her But for now you're going to stay In the year of the cat Year of the cat ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Zep was always my favorite band simply for the musical variety, top-tier talent level at every instrument with stellar production value. Nothing they ever did was disappointing or uninteresting in the least. It's virtually impossible for a true Zeppelin fan to pick a favorite album, much less song.

The magic of Zeppelin was all 4 members contributing their own unique skills as 1 cohesive unit. Plant's magic voice, Jimmy's amazing guitar work, JPJ on the bass and keys (not this song I know) and he did a lot of the arrangements. Last but not least Bonzo's bombastic drumming, crunching us over the head with his devastating power. Best band ever!

This song is about a legalize pot rally that was held in Hyde Park, London. The title is a reference to the Misty Mountains in Tolkien's work. The musical construction happened while they were jamming and Jimmy found he had the opening to what would become this song; Jonesy helped work up the chords and chorus and they were off!

As a musician I appreciate your comments because I know you two are musically inclined therefore I respect your opinions, interjections and conjectures more then most. I have been following you two and really enjoy all of your reactions because of the enthusiasm you both contribute and some new questions to old bands I find interesting. I have a question for both of you: As producers performers, musicians and music lovers I would like to know what you have personally taken away from your exposure to rock and roll heavy metal and other forms of music then what you prefer or have been exposed to personally or professionally?
@AirplayBeats Жыл бұрын
Usually when I produce music it’s just a standard 8 bar hook, 16 bar verse and it just keeps repeating with that format. After doing these reactions I’m learning I do not have to follow that structure on every track I produce. I can just let the music lead me in the right direction and make music with no boundaries. Less robotic and more feeling to the music

Robert would say before the song was played live and in interviews: [It's a song about walking through the park in the days of flower power, smoking some weed (hey boy, do you wanna score ? It's about scoring on some weed), then the cops line em all up and bop em on their heads]. It's about the perils of just trying to be yourself with long hair (back in the day), hanging with friends publicly and having a good time - and the cops hassling you. The Misty Mountains are in The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings books by JRR Tolkein. "So, I'm packing my bags for the Misty Mountains - where the spirits soar -- over the hills, where the spirits fly..." It ends on an escapism theme. It's a great song. They played it live on their record breaking 1973 US Tour and then revived it again for both Knebworth shows in 1979, in August. There's live pro shot videos of it from 1973 and 1979.

Back in the '90s at a newspaper where I worked we'd interview visiting rock stars and such when they came to town and one question we'd ask was, what are you reading and why? Ace Frehley with Kiss said he was reading Lord of the Rings because he wanted to understand Led Zeppeling better.
