Listen carefully to J.P.J. bass lines. Incredible. The whole band is on point. Had tickets reserved for the U.S. tour which never happened. Shortly after this, Bonzo tragically died.

This was their first concert after not performing for two years after the death of Robert's 5-year-old son. He almost didn't come back. Jimmy is unwell. Bonzo would be dead in just a year. Robert has said if you ever doubt the musicianship and tremendous collaboration of the band, just listen to Jimmy, Jonesy and Bonzo on this very song, live. Nothing better. I love your honestly instead of most reactors just jaw-dropping and loving everything. (Also, read the story about Achilles and pretty much all the songs on Presence. They're all tied together.) Listen to The Rain Song - either from Zep or live from the Page/Plant tour. Just listen to everything!! Also, listen to some of Robert Plant's solo stuff - Big Log, Like I've Never Been Gone, I Believe (another song written for his son; All My Love was the first), Black Dog (live with Alison Krauss,) Monkey (with Band of Joy/Patty Griffin,) In The Mood, Quattro (with Alison Krauss) - clearly I could go on forever, but if you like RP's voice - there are more solo and collaborative songs that he's done through the years than there are Zep songs. He's still recording and touring and evolving. So, dig deep!

Are you shittin' me! Go listen to the studio version then come back to this.....and that will send you hurtling back to the truth. Not many bands could even cover this song and do it justice. They are knocking it out the park. Your jaw should be open at what these guys are doing here. A confessed Zep lover saying this doesn't grab you. Wow.

Did you watch his whole reaction he came back around after his first impression to liking it at the end, I do have to admit this isn't one of my favs from them studio wise but they nailed it here. probs the best song of the live recording

You can see in this video that the every member of the band is totally immersed in this groove. If I were at that concert, after hearing several of their masterpieces, watching them groove-out to this song would have been a treat, even if the song itself wasn’t one of their hits.

I love this song and is my favorite out of their "epics". It's off their Presence album which was recorded while Robert was recuperating from a car accident that he'd been in while on holiday with his family. There was a time he wasn't sure if he'd walk again unaided so the name of the song is a play on his injury since Achilles had a weak spot in his heel and an injury there could kill him. This song describes a trip Robert and Jimmy took to India. The album as a whole is very stripped down, guitar-driven and is one of my favorites. In general, it is an intense song. Robert tells a story on his podcast where he said he had a friend over and had music playing while they chatted. During their conversation he had to get up to leave the room. After a few minutes, his friend came to find him because she said she couldn't stay in the room alone because the song playing was too intense. Intrigued, Robert came back to the room and it was Achilles.

You are a great reactor and listener. This song needs multiple listens. There is a lot going on here. Extraordinarily intricate as Keith Richards said to Page while recording it “ This would be a motherfucker to play live”. Jimmy and the lads figured it out.

Yeah, I’d recommend he check out the studio version off of Presence to get a better idea of the song as a whole.

Studio version far superior. Better to do studio versions first to properly appreciate this version. Trust those of us who know, this is TRULY one of the all time Zepics. This is a very complex arrangement with multiple layered guitars. The fact they could even pull this off live really is stunning..

My favorite band but not a song that's high on my list, only because they have so many great tunes. If this was another bands best song I am sure I would love it. My favorite is When the Levee Breaks - still waiting for Page & Plant at Irvine doing Kashmir with the orchestra!!

@@jbojoify Same. I love this song (I love the album too). This is insane how tight they are on this version. John in those drums is killing me! This is a song that I wouldn’t have expected them to play live, simply because of its general difficulty.

This song is nearly impossible to recreate effectively live vs the studio version because there are so many layers and guitar pieces in the studio version. Jimmy Page is trying his best to play five different guitar parts at the same time in the live version. It's okay and hats off to him but the studio version..... When Keith Richards first heard this song he told Jimmy Page that it would be impossible to reproduce live. Jimmy Page is very vindictive 😆

@Jeffrey Hinkel I know there are many but to have all 12 playing at the exact same time would be a bit too cannibalistic as far as the sonic profile goes imo. That is unless they were in unison, which they are not. I think towards the end there's about four or five overlapping each other which sounds mesmerizing in the studio version and will never happen in any live version. That is unless you have four other guitar players on hand. I wonder if he tried it with the Black Crowes... 🤔

Not one of my favorites from Zeppelin. Song is too "busy" like they are trying too hard, something they don't do on other tracks.
