Growing up with an emotionally abusive father and a really dysfunctional family, this song literally saved my life. I first felt the twangs of the chords in elementary school when the middle school band came to play. I sensed so deeply that it delved into the deepest part of me. I didn't know what it was called but it spoke to me in a way that surpasses logic--this is the beauty of music. Whenever my abusive father would rage upstairs I retreated into the room under the basement stairway and listened to the lyrics as if the song was about me. Thank God it was a song of hope b/c I do not know how I would have survived a childhood so abusive, so lacking in love, so full of fear and anxiety. It has taken me a lifetime to overcome the trauma of my childhood --a childhood I would not have wished on anyone-- but that song is my swan song. It is a song of hope. Music is God's magic mushroom. The potion to heal broken hearts and broken souls. I was in love with Robert Plant! That love got me through an otherwise impossible adolescence. Yes, you always have two roads to go by. You always have a choice. Choose the one that leads to heaven, not hell.

My Grandfather absolutely loved Led Zeppelin. Whenever me or my siblings were in the car with him and this song came on, he always told us that this was the greatest song of all time. He passed away 7 December 2021. Now every time I hear this song or any Zeppelin song, I'm convinced that he put it on for me. Rest easy, Grandpa. I'll keep getting the Led out for you.
@k.b.tidwell2 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry your Grandpa had to go. It's so odd for me to know exactly what I was doing the day he died, but December 7th is my brother's birthday, and at one point in the morning that day I was sitting out back on the patio sending him a long, brotherly text. And I remember thinking that I never forget his birthday partly because it's also Pearl Harbor Day. Now I will never forget that it's the day that Mitchell's Grandpa passed on. Kind thoughts to you, friend. Grandpa has climbed the stairway, huh? As a grandpa myself, I can assure you too that he loved you and the others in a way that was multiplied even from how he loved his own children. Kids are great, but grandchildren are great+++ because as we (that's you too) get older and closer to the "stairway", we reflect more and more on the only way we can live on here on Earth...through you. Peace.

The great thing about long rock songs is, usually, it's not 8 long minutes of hard rock. It's a journey, a slow path up to the top, a song that takes the time not because it wants more rock, but because it NEEDS the time to have the proper buildup. Songs like this take their time because the crescendo wouldn't be the same without the slow, building melody that creates it. In other words, you'll always need to build that stairway if you want to truly make it to heaven.

*Stairway To Heaven* *----------------------------* There's a lady who's sure All that glitters is gold And she's buying a stairway to heaven When she gets there she knows If the stores are all closed With a word she can get what she came for Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh And she's buying a stairway to heaven There's a sign on the wall But she wants to be sure 'Cause you know, sometimes words have two meanings In a tree by the brook There's a songbird who sings Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven Ooh, it makes me wonder Ooh, it makes me wonder There's a feeling I get when I look to the west And my spirit is crying for leaving In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees And the voices of those who stand looking Ooh, it makes me wonder Ooh, it really makes me wonder And it's whispered that soon If we all call the tune Then the piper will lead us to reason And a new day will dawn For those who stand long And the forests will echo with laughter Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh If there's a bustle in your hedgerow Don't be alarmed now It's just a Spring clean for the May queen Yes, there are two paths you can go by But in the long run There's still time to change the road you're on And it makes me wonder Your head is humming and it won't go In case you don't know The piper's calling you to join him Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow? And did you know your stairway lies on the whispering wind? And as we wind on down the road Our shadows taller than our souls There walks a lady we all know Who shines white light and wants to show How everything still turns to gold And if you listen very hard The tune will come to you, at last When all are one and one is all, yeah To be a rock and not to roll And she's buying a stairway to heaven

I'm no drummer, I actually play guitar. But when I heard this song for the first time somewhere between 15 to 20 years ago, it was the DRUMS that got me into it. This is exactly the way rock should sound on drums: subtle but open and with lots of feeling and presence. Bohnam was huge! a true master of the art.

Lyrics: There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold And she's buying a stairway to heaven When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed With a word she can get what she came for Ooh, ooh, and she's buying a stairway to heaven There's a sign on the wall, but she wants to be sure 'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven You know There's a feeling I get when I look to the west And my spirit is crying for leaving In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees And the voices of those who stand looking That's you And it's whispered that soon, if we all call the tune Then the piper will lead us to reason And a new day will dawn for those who stand long And the forests will echo with laughter Remember laughter? Oh yeah, yeah, yeah... And it makes me wonder If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now It's just a spring clean for the May queen Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run There's still time to change the road you're on Your head is humming and it won't go, in case you don't know The piper's calling you to join him Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow, and did you know Your stairway lies on the whispering wind? And as we wind on down the road Our shadows taller than our soul There walks a lady we all know Who shines white light and wants to show How everything still turns to gold And if you listen very hard The tune will come to you at last When all is one and one is all, that's what it is To be a rock and not to roll, oh yeah And she's buying a stairway to heaven

Each era claims its own timeless classics. The works of Mozart and Beethoven are celebrated not just as classical music, but as eternal masterpieces. Likewise, Stairway to Heaven transcends the label of classic rock; it embodies the depth, complexity, and emotional resonance of true classical music. It’s a modern symphony that has woven itself into the fabric of musical history-one of the defining classical pieces of our time

And from 5:34 to about 6:44 ladies and gentlemen is why Jimmy Page is one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Lots of musicians can make a guitar talk, but only a select few can make it sing. That right there is a minute and ten seconds of pure bliss. Never gets old. Each time you hear it is like hearing it for the first time again. This is Zep’s magnum opus, and quite possibly the greatest rock song ever made.

Always some dickweed who has nothing better to do than type out the words to a song everyone knows already. On the other hand, at least this is - in some small way - better than most of the other tired cliches the other commentators post. But then, this a-hole shares this profundity: "If you’re having a rough time and you don’t know what life’s about listen to Stairway to Heaven, it is Truly Timeless is its depth and message…. As we get older and closer to the "stairway", we reflect more and more on the way we can live on here in memories on Earth." The inclination is to think that's got be a joke. How stupid would you have to be to try to seriously pass of such pretentious pseudo-philosophy as an actual idea? Nauseating.

"Stairway To Heaven" There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold And she's buying a stairway to Heaven When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed With a word she can get what she came for Ooh, ooh, and she's buying a stairway to Heaven There's a sign on the wall, but she wants to be sure 'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven Ooh, makes me wonder Ooh, makes me wonder There's a feeling I get when I look to the west And my spirit is crying for leaving In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees And the voices of those who stand looking Ooh, it makes me wonder Ooh, really makes me wonder And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune Then the piper will lead us to reason And a new day will dawn for those who stand long And the forests will echo with laughter Oh-oh-oh-oh-whoa If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed, now It's just a spring clean for the May queen Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run There's still time to change the road you're on And it makes me wonder Oh, whoa Your head is humming and it won't go, in case you don't know The piper's calling you to join him Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow? And did you know Your stairway lies on the whispering wind? And as we wind on down the road Our shadows taller than our soul There walks a lady we all know Who shines white light and wants to show How everything still turns to gold And if you listen very hard The tune will come to you at last When all are one and one is all To be a rock and not to roll And she's buying a stairway to Heaven

Now I'm 38, and showed this to my toddler son and he was just smiling, with excitement, surprise and joy on his little angel face. I hope, he will remember me when he will listen to this when he will grow up and I will not be here for him anymore, and I hope he will also show this to his son.

The phrasing of the solo is a masterpiece. It's not just fast scale runs up and down the fretboard. It's goes somewhere and tells a story. Every inspiring guitarist should know this solo as redundant as it is to say. It teaches you pretty much every technique in blues and rock music.
