Led Zeppelin formed in 1968 and went on to become one of the most influential, innovative, and successful groups in modern music, having sold more than 300 million albums worldwide. The band rose from the ashes of The Yardbirds, when Jimmy Page brought in John Bonham, John Paul Jones, and Robert Plant to tour as The New Yardbirds. In 1969, Led Zeppelin released its self-titled debut which was produced by Page, as were all the subsequent albums. It marked the beginning of a 12-year reign, during which the group was widely considered to be the biggest and most innovative rock band in the world.

This is not a song, it`s an anthem of Rock, performed by the Gods of Rock. I fell in love with this in 1971, at the age of 15 and here I am, 53 years later still very much in love with it. It will outlive us all. When the last star goes out, the last sound in the Universe will be Robert Plant, singing those final few words.

My Grandfather absolutely loved Led Zeppelin. Whenever me or my siblings were in the car with him and this song came on, he always told us that this was the greatest song of all time. I'm sorry your Grandpa had to go. It's so odd for me to know exactly what I was doing the day he died, but December 7th is my brother's birthday, and at one point in the morning that day I was sitting out back on the patio sending him a long, brotherly text. And I remember thinking that I never forget his birthday partly because it's also Pearl Harbor Day. Now I will never forget that it's the day that Mitchell's Grandpa passed on. Kind thoughts to you, friend. Grandpa has climbed the stairway, huh? As a grandpa myself, I can assure you too that he loved you and the others in a way that was multiplied even from how he loved his own children. Kids are great, but grandchildren are great+++ because as we (that's you too) get older and closer to the "stairway", we reflect more and more on the only way we can live on here on Earth...through you. Peace.

There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold And she's buying a stairway to Heaven When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed With a word she can get what she came for Ooh, ooh, and she's buying a stairway to Heaven There's a sign on the wall, but she wants to be sure 'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven Ooh, it makes me wonder Ooh, makes me wonder There's a feeling I get when I look to the West And my spirit is crying for leaving In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees And the voices of those who stand looking Ooh, it makes me wonder Ooh, really makes me wonder And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune Then the piper will lead us to reason And a new day will dawn for those who stand long And the forests will echo with laughter Oh-oh-oh-oh-whoa If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now It's just a spring clean for the May queen Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run There's still time to change the road you're on And it makes me wonder Ohh, whoa Your head is humming, and it won't go, in case you don't know The piper's calling you to join him Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow? And did you know Your stairway lies on the whispering wind? And as we wind on down the road Our shadows taller than our soul There walks a lady we all know Who shines white light and wants to show How everything still turns to gold And if you listen very hard The tune will come to you at last When all are one, and one is all To be a rock and not to roll And she's buying a stairway to Heaven

The great thing about long rock songs is, usually, it's not 8 long minutes of hard rock. It's a journey, a slow path up to the top, a song that takes the time not because it wants more rock, but because it NEEDS the time to have the proper buildup. Songs like this take their time because the crescendo wouldn't be the same without the slow, building melody that creates it. In other words, you'll always need to build that stairway if you want to truly make it to heaven.

*Stairway To Heaven* *----------------------------* There's a lady who's sure All that glitters is gold And she's buying a stairway to heaven When she gets there she knows If the stores are all closed With a word she can get what she came for Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh And she's buying a stairway to heaven There's a sign on the wall But she wants to be sure 'Cause you know, sometimes words have two meanings In a tree by the brook There's a songbird who sings Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven Ooh, it makes me wonder Ooh, it makes me wonder There's a feeling I get when I look to the west And my spirit is crying for leaving In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees And the voices of those who stand looking Ooh, it makes me wonder Ooh, it really makes me wonder And it's whispered that soon If we all call the tune Then the piper will lead us to reason And a new day will dawn For those who stand long And the forests will echo with laughter Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh If there's a bustle in your hedgerow Don't be alarmed now It's just a Spring clean for the May queen Yes, there are two paths you can go by But in the long run There's still time to change the road you're on And it makes me wonder Your head is humming and it won't go In case you don't know The piper's calling you to join him Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow? And did you know your stairway lies on the whispering wind? And as we wind on down the road Our shadows taller than our souls There walks a lady we all know Who shines white light and wants to show How everything still turns to gold And if you listen very hard The tune will come to you, at last When all are one and one is all, yeah To be a rock and not to roll And she's buying a stairway to heaven

my dad used to play this song on piano, or on flute, or whistle it a lot. those were the calm moments where i felt connected to him through beautiful music. he sexually abused me from 3-7, and beat me and verbally/emotionally/psychologically abused me for as long as i can remember. when i was suicidal in my mid teens, i found this song again and would cry to it on loop through the night while i remembered how he used to play it. i was diagnosed with c-ptsd and bpd last year, 2023, and i have been no-contact with my father since i ran away at 17 and never came back. this song still makes me cry-it makes me wonder what my life would have been like if those calm moments extended to every moment. the human existence can be painful, but i think that pain is what makes it beautiful, too. thank you, led, for the beauty you've put into the world.

This song always tells me, whether it is your god or your experience or raw feeling, listen to the Piper in you; some paths are not visible to the eye. It can well be worth to listen for that songbird on the rare occasion you hear it above all the noise of our lives. And most importantly, it is not too late to change the direction of your life. Such a good song. The more life you live, the more the song tells you.

The best grace is that God purchased our freedom with the blood of His Son and forgave all our sins. This immeasurable gift was given to you when you believed. You didn’t work for it and you didn’t even deserve it. If He stopped there it would have been enough, but He continues to give us even more grace, kindness, wisdom, and understanding. What an awesome God! For He so loved the world that He gave His only Son. “Be still (cease striving) and know (recognize, understand) that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations! I will be exalted in the earth” (Psalm 46:10). Grace gives me the freedom to forget about other people’s opinions. I can learn to be the person that God created me to be before the lies of this world attached themselves to me. I don’t need to impress other people. I just need to be faithful to the One who created me, and He already loves me, so I have nothing to prove. I am free to be me. I am fearfully and wonderfully made with a purposeful design. Getting to know God through His Word helps me to know my purpose in life. And when I know it, I can go ahead and live it. If the Son sets me free, I am truly free (John 8:36).

Too bad they chose to create a generic video for the song. I would have loved to see more clips of the band members when they were younger around the time this song was being created. Yea, I know they like to sell that type of stuff to fans, but this is an official video for one of their premier songs for godsakes. It should have top tier video footage to go along with the song.

Lyrics: There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold And she's buying a stairway to heaven When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed With a word she can get what she came for Ooh, ooh, and she's buying a stairway to heaven There's a sign on the wall, but she wants to be sure 'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven You know There's a feeling I get when I look to the west And my spirit is crying for leaving In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees And the voices of those who stand looking That's you And it's whispered that soon, if we all call the tune Then the piper will lead us to reason And a new day will dawn for those who stand long And the forests will echo with laughter Remember laughter? Oh yeah, yeah, yeah... And it makes me wonder If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now It's just a spring clean for the May queen Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run There's still time to change the road you're on Your head is humming and it won't go, in case you don't know The piper's calling you to join him Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow, and did you know Your stairway lies on the whispering wind? And as we wind on down the road Our shadows taller than our soul There walks a lady we all know Who shines white light and wants to show How everything still turns to gold And if you listen very hard The tune will come to you at last When all is one and one is all, that's what it is To be a rock and not to roll, oh yeah And she's buying a stairway to heaven

This is exactly the way rock should sound on drums: subtle but open and with lots of feeling and presence. Bohnam was huge! a true master of the art.
