The fade out was designed for when the song was being played on the radio. The music would come back while the DJ was talking after he thought the song had finished. JPJ thought it would be funny.

The fade out and back in kind of reminds me of the end of Helter Skelter by The Beatles👍

It was this album, Andy, that wrested the crown away from The Beatles and placed on the head of Led Zeppelin, by bumping Abbey Road from the top spot in the charts, in December of '69.

This was our wedding song 40 years ago. They knocked The Beatles out of the park and reigned supreme as the gods of rock and roll for a dozen years….what they achieved nobody but nobody could ever come close to repeating…enjoy your Zeppelin journey….they are the true absolute epitome of GOAT!!!!!

Prior to this song, other than cover songs, Plant was only a contributor to lyric writing for the band. But after Robert wrote the lyrics for this song, Jimmy hereafter trusted Robert to be the principle lyricist for the band. We played this at our wedding reception....I know many people have. That is Jimmy singing background harmony.

Lovely song. While Bonham most often sang backup, it was Page on this one. Album II is a bit more "refined" as you say. The first album was recorded just a month after they formed as a band, and in only 36 hours, likely due to the fact that Page had to pay for studio time out-of-pocket. ;) Thanks for a great reaction! It will be interesting to hear what you think of album III when you get there. I love it, but sometimes listeners don't know what to make of it on a first listen because Zeppelin went in a somewhat different direction with it. Good stuff, though. :)

They make the most beautiful ballads...and you always know it is them! This song has Jimmy Page harmonizing...I think it is the only one! Live Bonham harmonizes with Robert on at least 2 songs...Bron Yr Au Stomp and I think Misty Mountain Hop...I may be wrong about that. I only have seen JPJ sing with Robert live...Battle Of Evermore...so interesting!
