The Rain Song a brilliant masterpiece of music - the ending and whacks on the drums at the end is 29 inch Ludwig Universal tympani (it is a large orchestral drum made out of copper) which has a foot pedal on the bottom of it - to change the pitch of the drum head. Many people never mention that ending part. Bonzo changed the pitch of the tympani drum w his foot in unison with Jimmy's guitar notes. So Bonzo knew exactly how much push the pedal up - when Jimmy hit each individual guitar notes. Jimmy slides down the guitar next on the last note and Bonzo lowers the pitch of the drum in unison, by depressing pedal - again - in exact unison w Jimmy guitar notes. Bonzo's drums enter the song with big whacks on the tympani and crashes his 38 inch orchestral gong, behind him. Bonzo's drumming gets talked about a lot, but people rarely mention his tymp playing. He was a master tympani player too. He does double whacks on the tympani when the song gets heavy and takes off and it's played unison with Jimmy's two heavy guitar chords - to energize and drive the emotional typical Led Zeppelin dynamical musical take off into the outer stratosphere. John Paul Jones playing the Mellotron was amazing. The Mellotron has a plethora of recording tape inside it. All the instrument sounds are recorded individually onto each tape reel. When JPJ presses a key - it moves an arm forward and pushes the pre-recording tape sounds into the playing heads (just like an old tape recorder) and out comes the full orchestral string emsamble sounds. He's amazing and he was also playing bass pedals w his feet simultaneously. All the guys in Led Zeppelin had what's called - limb independence. Most musicians do not possess that skill. Jimmy switched to the six string guitar for the Rain Song and the guitar is tuned to a non-standard tuning. Jimmy wrote this entire song himself, but obviously all of the members added their own parts to it and Robert wrote the vocals. Robert's voice was amazing indeed. Have another listen after reading this w all this information here. It'll be even more amazing. I sometimes cry when the song takes off into that heavy part - I did today again while watching your review. I really enjoyed your reaction. There should be no doubt about who the best, most intense rock and roll band ever. Loved the reaction and you guys still remind me of two chills intellectuals.

Jimmy Page is playing the double necked guitar in these songs. The Song Remains the Same song was played entirely on the 12 string electric neck (the top neck). He's using a combination of his guitar pick and other three loose fingers to play the other strings of the 12 string - at the same time. Jimmy was ripping those leads on a 12 string guitar. John Paul Jones all over that bass fret board and Bonzo was unloading speed, power and amazing fills all over the place. Plant's vocal were high and mighty indeed !

I recommended this double song to you a few days ago and told you, you wouldn't regret it. It's two masterpieces back-to-back that VERY few LZ fans know about, these two songs are very very rarely played on the radio or discussed in any way. The story for the Rain Song is funny: George Harrison of the Beatles was chatting with Page and told him "man, you are good, but you don't do any ballads..." So Page just wrote a ballad... Like taking a rabbit out of his hat.... Thank you George!!!!!

You guys slay me - once again. You are getting better at this guys. Great reaction. Remember that Led Zeppelin's roots are embedded and intertwined in American Blues. Their heroes and influences are drawn from American blues singers like Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, and Sonny Boy Williamson - stick on a bit of British folk music, reggae and soul and you have a national treasure. Nowhere is this more evident than 'Since I've been loving you' from Led Zeppelin III. May I suggest you do a reaction of the album version? Much respect.

But THEN - there is a whole other world of magic awaiting you with their live performances. They never played a song the same way twice; they'd improvise live on stage and take the audience on a brand new journey. I was lucky enough to see Page & Plant in 1995 and they were unbelievable. What an EPIC song! I love Led Zeppelin! I've listening to them for 49 years. They have always been in my top three. Kashmir is my favorite song and Physical Graffiti is my favorite album.

LED ZEPPELIN THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME "IN CONCERT~AND BEYOND!" Is one of the GREATEST CONCERT FILMS OF ALL TIME! Do yourselves a favour and WATCH the WHOLE MOVIE non-stop in it's entirety! I saw THE THEATRICAL RELEASE IN 1976 at the tender age of 14, and it CHANGED MY LIFE FOREVER!

Waited outside MSG the Sunday before the box office opened on Monday for this concert. NYC is crazy cold in the winter because all those tall buildings really funnel the wind. It was good times back then though.
