Stephen Caruso @ work---- MY dad in 1971 bought a brand new 71 Plymouth Duster then installed an 8 track with 2 6x9 coaxial speakers in the back - he had also subscribed to Columbia record club and got his first batch of 8 tracks- one was Chicago at Carnegie Hall another was Led Zeppelin IV and when we heard the Levee song we almost blew out his new speakers with the Bonzo drumbeat

In April of 1977, during what would turn out to be Led Zeppelin's final U.S. tour, a family member was gifted 2 tickets (choice seats in fact) from their employer to an upcoming LZ concert, and they decided to bring me along. I was 7 and hadn't the faintest idea who LZ was. It was far more than a rock concert, it was an event, and I was absolutely gobsmacked at what I experienced.

The Page/Plant tours in 94-95, was the closest I came to seeing Zeppelin. Fantastic shows !

This is my all-time favorite Led Zeppelin song. No matter how many times I've heard it, I love to hear every second of it again. I can't say that about the other hyped-up song from this album, Stairway To Heaven. They played that song so often on the rock stations I always listened to, that I actually became annoyed when hearing it again. I mean, it was a nice enough song, but _damn._ (Same thing happened with other big hits they played to death, like Hey Jude, especially with that ending that goes on & on. Another big one I came to hate: Layla.) But When The Levee Breaks just doesn't get old for me. It's sparkling. When The Levee Breaks > Misty Mountain Hop > Stairway To Heaven.

I love the way this song has a beginning, middle, and end, unlike a lot of those songs that go on for hours, days, weeks, months, and even years. In fact, there are a couple of songs from the 60s and 70s that I'm still listening to, waiting for them to end, and it has taken quite a toll on my life and my relationships with others. One to particularly avoid: "(This Is) The Song That Never Ends" by Shari Lewis and Lamb Chop.

This song was written in 1929, by a Black woman known as Memphis Minnie. Her recording is on KZbin. It is about the Great Mississippi River flood of 1927 Black people were not allowed to evacuate, and were forced to work shoring up the levee system.

That sound of thunder outside before the song started I was like.....holy moly. It was very prophetic, I guess I would say. Great reaction, as always, guys.

Hey NicknLex, this is my favorite version of this old blues song written in 1929 by Memphis Minnie and Kansas Joe McCoy. That's why it sounds so bluesy. Glad you're having fun with it. Keep up the good work.

One of my top two favorite Zeppelin songs, the other being Kashmir. I find it utterly hypnotic. I lose myself in that bass line and just groove out. And the harmonica……perfect. And of course Roberts singing. And THANK YOU to Jimmy Page, the riff master. .

There another version of this track called “Alternate Version Outtake” (on KZbin) it’s before they slowed down the band in post and Robert sings it live. I like it a little better because you can really hear John Paul Jones bass at its original speed.

Apocalyptic. Sound mixed by Jimmy Page towards the end to create a swirling, drowning whirlpool. Drums like an earthquake. It’s the end of days.

PLEASE do the A Perfect Circle's (Maynard from Tool is their Lead singer) cover of this Live at Red Rocks, it was on their Stone and Echo tour and it's incredible! In fact that entire concert was incredible so maybe you check out a few songs with us??!! Hint hint, nudge nudge...LOL. A couple of solid choice from that performance would be Orestes and 3 Libras.

Seen Zep live so many times between 1971-1977 they never played this song…it’s not that complicated since I seen Zepperella (female group) do it perfectly……

Led Zeppelin have so many great songs, yes Plant is a magnificent harmonica player, wish he had played it in more songs then he did. How they got Bonham’s amazing drum sound for this song is genius, many tried to replicate it & have failed. It’s not just the fact his drumming was done in the entrance stairwell at Headley Grange, & the technique used, it’s the greatest drummer playing. You need to do songs she doesn’t know, there’s several true masterpieces, that need explored. Thank you for your reaction.

hello NicknLex, how are you? when I was in high school, senior year, my buddies had a rock band, there was a battle of the bands and their band was in the contest, they did a sound check, the drummer said he wanted to hear how the drums sounded at the back of the auditorium, he said, Dave get up there and do sound check on the drums so I can hear it, what they didn't know was I had been practicing on the drums for weeks and no one knew that I had been practicing so I hopped up on the drums and the band sound checked this song, and I started it off and did the drums exactly like the song start, he literally ran up on stage, made me stop because he didn't like that I played the song better than he did and he didn't speak to me for the rest of the school year and ever since, I've tried to reach out to him and no response from him all these years later and he still won't talk to me.
