This lives in my top 5 'Whenever wherever' malts along with Port Charlotte 10, Lagavulin 8, Kilchoman Machir Bay and Talisker 10

I love watching your older reviews when I finally am able to try the bottle. Spot on with this one again - very delicious. Seems like a peatier version of what highland park SHOULD be. Can I suggest a shootout for the best 10 year old (non cask strength) peated? Ardbeg, Laphroaig, port Charlotte, Ledaig, Talisker, and Ballechin?

I have been on a bit of a peated whisky journey of late and, in the past few months, have tried a lot of different malts that were new to me and a few that were old friends. To me Ledaig 10 is special. Not the most complex one, not the one with the best nose, not the one with the best palate, not the one with the longest finish... But, somehow, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Whenever I finish a dram of it I feel like having another: it is just so pleasant!

Ledaig 10 is my go to favorite so far. Great format show you have! Keep up the great work!

Thanks! 🙏 I agree, this is a fantastic go-to!

The cheese-like funkiness on the nose and palate steps right up and delivers a satisfying jab, lending a little complexity to this delicious expression. I can nose this stuff all day. The finish is just a little shorter than I hope for--when it seems like it might be lengthy, it kind of stops in the mid to mid-long range. Regardless, it's such a lovely, inviting whisky! $60-$65 out here in L.A. My only complaint: I have maybe three pours left in my bottle! Will definitely replace. G, I'd like to tell you I've watched several of your reviews and am happy to subscribe. I definitely appreciate your honesty and enthusiasm. I'm in.

Thank you, Andy, appreciate the sub and the kind words. Yeah this 10 is excellent. One of my favourite budget peated whiskies. Have you tried the 18? Also a huge standout in its category!
@andynelson58643 жыл бұрын
@@Gwhisky I wish! Hopefully, soon enough. Right now, my wallet's taken on a somewhat sickly, emaciated appearance, so I have to sneer at some temptations. Hope to try several other expressions in the near future: perhaps the Sanaig? Maybe Longrow Peated? The Kilkerran 12 sounds pretty wonderful. Haven't had the Bunnahabhain Toiteach A Dha, either. I did fall in love with the Port Charlotte 10 (so very alluring in its rounded elegance) and darn near wept when the bottle ran dry! Also really enjoyed my Uigeadail. I think mine was from October 2020 and was a bit darker than the one you reviewed a few weeks back. I wonder if it had a little of what you feel has been missing from that expression lately. Anyway, the journey continues!

Wow. I just tried this one for the first time (largely based upon your review), and I completely agree with your assessment, even with that elusive and nebulous "reachability". This one is going in my regular rotation.

Hey G, I bought the Ledaig 18 last year and it's one of my favourites. The 10 however is not so visible in my market here in the Philippines. I saw it online at a very high price. But luckily i got a good deal today. I'm buying 2 for now based on your recommendation. And also having tried the 18, i think this won't disappoint.

I just got this and I gotta say - this is bloody amazing! Islay is my go to whisky but this is actually better than most Islays that I've had (Right now TOP 3-4 on my list, right behind Ardbeg Uigeadail, Corryvreckan and Port Charlotte 10 year old). In my opinion, this blows Talisker 10 out of the water. Not even close. Fantastic complexity and balance between sour, sweet and salty. The only downside to this whiskey is that it's so good I always end up drinking a bit more than I should (I try to savour it, but it's hard...). Cheers.

This scotch dethroned Ardbeg 10 for me. The depth of flavors is amazing. And I can actually taste some of the stuff described in the video.

If Ladaig gets a price hike and becomes hard to track down, my B - 52 after levelling Ralfys bothy will be heading in you're direction ;-) Spent many great days on the Isle of Mull and am glad to see the distillery getting some great reviews. The Tobermory 12 is better than the old 10 and the Ledaig has been improved in my view, the 18 yr is a belter. Keep up the good work I like you're style, happy new year.

Ledaig 10 is unique - besides all you said ( which i agree with 100%) i also get a kind of slight mossy (mushroomy?) flavour in the palate. Loving this channel, bingeing all your vids. Keep it up!

Could be! Obviously people can pull different flavours from the same whisky. I'll be sure to look for a "mushroom" quality to Ledaig the next time I pop one! 🥃

Hmm. I've got to try this one again under the new labeling. The branding and label change I do like. It is better to me than the Benromach label change. Now I had the older one some years ago. I got the lemon cake and peaty notes. Didn't catch that fermented cheese note. It was fine but didn't wow me. I may have been expecting more complexity or a more peat. Upon watching this review I agree it is a change of pace from Laphroaig, Ardbeg etc. Thanks

I don't find this stuff to be overly complex. It's just a character that I enjoy a lot. The newer version is much better than the older one imo. 🥃

89 doesn't sound high at all Geoff. I feel like anything rated 85 or under isn't worth purchasing and most online reviews I see only really rate in the range of 80 - 100 anyway. Thanks for the video!
@Gwhisky2 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's the standard range of scoring. I have a similar approach. Most of the whiskies that I rate under 85 aren't ones that I plan on buying again, at least not for a long time. Cheers! 🥃

As a former bourbon/RYE drinker, Scotch is wildly inconsistent by comparison. The use of second hand casks of varying quality is likely to blame. Ledaig 10 is just another casualty IMO. 2023 batches pale in comparison to earlier batches. I have relegated my purchases to American Single Malts for the time being. Frankly, ASM's are beating the Scots at their own game. There are several great ASM's but McCarthy's, is cheaper, more consistent, and as good as anything Scotland puts out for only $94.

This is so different to everything else that I tried that if I had it on a blind test I would think it’s not even whisky. To me it tastes like a Deanston + smoke. Maybe that’s why they say peat is so polarising.
@groberti2 жыл бұрын
hm, I guess it must be the floral quality that makes you think Deanston :D Tobermory 12 has the same floralyness as well just not as in your face as the Deanston in this regard.
