I worked at the Longbranch factory in the mid sixties and was surprised that most of the machine operators were female and they were running everything from 50 ton vertical broaches, Acme Gridley autos with the very strong cam follower springs making them very hard to hand crank for set-up but those girls would often take the crank to bring it slowly up to cam-over so I could set cutter depth. They also ran newer automatic profile lathes with air chucks and tail stocks. Deep hole drilling machines were being run by an elderly lady who could hear the drill wandering and adjust the oil pressure to the back side of the drill tip to bring it back - amazing women, all of them.

I have a 1950 longbranch, 1945 no 5 and 1918 smle. The longbranch post war is the best built by far. It’s not that the others are bad but rather longbranch did such a great job. Thanks for the video. I really enjoyed your presentation

That is the standard ladder rear sight installed on the majority of the nearly 1 million Long Branch No.4 MkI* rifles built. The two groove rifling doesn't impair accuracy at all. I have a two groove 1943 Long Branch that regularly groups 1 MOA.

I have sent you an email on this rifle with a bit more info. In the attachment it refers to "DCRA". which stands for "Dominion of Canada Rifle Association". Thanks for sharing what I believe to be a bit of a rare one.

I have a 1950 Longbranch. That sight is correct. Mine is same colour wood and a match to yours. I believe they went back into production for the Korean War. They demand a premium as these were better quality than WW2 rifles and of course they were the last run ignoring the mk 2s. I have a no 1 and a no 5 also. Best battle rifle ever made without a doubt 🇦🇺👍🏻

I have also a 1950 LB with a Mk1 all milled rear sight not this later Mk3 stamped one. Both are as good as the other but Mk3 was cheaper to make because it was stamped. Lovely guns and a joy to shoot.

Looks like someone put a no1 mk3 magazine in the rifle. Long branch no4 mk1 enfields are nice guns and i say they are on of the best enfields out there. .

6 groove? That must be a rare one only seen 5 groove guns.
@Dutchie1973 Жыл бұрын
6 Groove barrels will have a "6" stamped onto the right side bayonet lug. C Mk4 6 Groove RIGHT HAND twist barrels were made from BREN gun rifling machinery as the Canadian BREN guns had a 6 groove barrels. Canadian 6 grooves were made mostly on 1950's rifles. They are quite rare and highly collectable as they were hand picked as competition shooters for military matches.

In the UK a rifle sold as an antique off ticket(no license required) has to have an obsolete chamber ie ammo no longer manufactured as well as a date of manufacture prior to 1946. If you decide to self load, the rifle then has to to be entered on a firearm certificate. The rifle you have there would have to be entered on an FAC in the uk as 303 is still manufactured.

be easier to leave the UK and come to the US and buy whatever the heck you want. I have a 1944 Long Branch, M1 Carbine, and a Springfield M1 Garand for my WWII rifles. list goes on for others. M1A and FN FAL for the next generation following WWII

Hey Koba49, do you know of any reference literature I can study on regarding Enfields? I’ve done some basic searching and found some related books that look promising but was curious if there are any books in particular on the Enfields you found to be thorough?
@danieltorrens87883 жыл бұрын
Look for an author named Ian Skennerton, he has written much about these and many other firearms, and a bible on these rifles. The big book is called "The Lee-Enfield: A Century of Lee-Metford and Lee-Enfield Rifles and Carbines".

Nice Video and nice Long Branch No4 Enfield. BUT i noticed that's a SMLE (No1 mk3) Magazine in your Rifle.... Did you maybe grabbed the wrong one? Hopefully you have the right one at home and didn't had it in the 1918 SMLE when you sold it?!

You sure its not a MK2 as that was first made in 49 and a lot of the MK1* were upgraded to MK2
