Many years ago if Ryanair had spare seats on a flight, they would close them off and use them for excess hand luggage that wouldn’t fit in the overhead bins. One day, before takeoff, a passenger was taken ill and an ambulance called to remove him from the plane and take him to hospital. Whilst being ill he soiled the area where he was sitting, so the passengers in that area were relocated to the seats with luggage and the luggage moved to the hold. On arrival in Spain some passengers realised that their passports were now in the hold which meant they would be stopped at customs. As a result of this I became one of those smug people who book speedy/priority boarding just to ensure my bag is in the overhead bin.

""The Loganair Westray to Papa Westray route is the shortest scheduled passenger flight in the world. Flights on the route are scheduled for one and a half minutes, and actual flying time is closer to one minute. The record for the fastest flight is 53 seconds. The route is flown by Loganair, a Scottish regional airline that serves Scotland's Highlands and islands.""

London to Inverness would be about 10 hours driving (if no major road works or traffic incidents). EasyJet is not really that much cheaper than other airlines when you consider the cost of adding luggage, the cost of reserving a seat and now the additional cost of bringing hand luggage to be stowed in the overhead locker (the only luggage that is currently free must fit under the seat in front of you). Inverness is cheaper to fly from because it is not subject to the taxes applied at other airports (at this time).

That wasnt Business you flew that was Premium Economy, you said you paid a little bit more than Coach, Business Class is at least 3 times more expensive on International Flights than Coach.

"Is that going to save my life".. well.. yes.. absolutely. First of all: People don't crash straight into the ground, it is NOT an abrupt stop.. The most likely thing to be a problem when crash landing is that the overhead compartment with your bags will come loose and crash down on you.. If you have your seat back then it will land promptly on your face, if it is in the upright position it will land on the headrest of the chair, which at least will break the fall and reduce the amount of energy that potentially hits you in the end.. but yeah.. yeah absolutely. To have the seat in upright position if something happens during landuing may literally be the difference between life and death.. often it won't make a difference, but sometimes.. it would.

I'd rather drive or take a train or a boat, anything other than being pressed in to a cattle car in the sky. No thanks.
