Lee Greenwood - God Bless The USA
When "God Bless the USA" was released as a single for the first time, in 1984, it went to No. 7 on the country charts. That same year, the song was played at the Republican National Convention with then-president Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan in attendance -- and as the years have gone on, the tune has become a rallying cry during various times of crisis in America: after the launch of Operation Desert Storm during the Gulf War in 1991, following the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001 and more.
I wanted to write it my whole life. When I got to that point, we were doing 300 days a year on the road, and we were on our fourth or fifth album on MCA. I called my producer, and I said, "I have a need to do this." I've always wanted to write a song about America, and I said, "We just need to be more united."
Lyrics
If tomorrow all the things were gone
I'd worked for all my life
And I had to start again
With just my children and my wife
I'd thank my lucky stars
To be living here today
'Cause the flag still stands for freedom
And they can't take that away
And I'm proud to be an American
Where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me
And I gladly stand up next to you
And defend her still today
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.
From the lakes of Minnesota
To the hills of Tennessee
Across the plains of Texas
From sea to shining sea
From Detroit down to Houston
And New York to L.A.
Well there's pride in every American heart
And it's time we stand and say
That I'm proud to be an American
Where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me
And I gladly stand up next to you
And defend her still today
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.
And I'm proud to be an American
Where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me
And I gladly stand up next to you
And defend her still today
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.

@@Two-brothers-stackingvery distant Brothers I would say if you believe in the Bible which I do believe that it's the truth. So as brothers we should do good on to each other not what is being done over here killing and shooting and all sorts of deplorable things that daily news reports happens in this country all over the place and that's the tip of the iceberg.

Lee Greenwood wrote and sang this beautiful song with the passion for America. Am an old lady and I cry every time I hear this. My uncle died in Normandy 3 months before I was born. They didn't tell my mother because she might miscarry and I can't imagine what my grandparents went through. Freedom comes with a heavy price and don't ever take it for granted.

I love this song, I am a daughter of a world war II veteran who was shot and almost killed in Normandy and then was severely injured and very close to death in the Battle of the Bulge . Even though my dad went through a lot he always loved his country and taught us the meaning of patriotism. To this day and I'm 75 and still very patriotic I love my country and I love my president, President Trump. Even my 3-year-old grandson loves this song. His mom even made a video of him singing it all the way through for me. We were once in a restaurant and all of a sudden he started belting the song out right in the dining room. My heart gets overjoyed to hear this little 3 year old child no matter where he goes, wanting to sing God Bless the USA.

In January, 1991, I was on one of many, military buses, along with a few hundred soldiers, parked on the tarmac at Louisville International Airport. About 20 or 30 yards away, was a chartered TWA 747, waiting to take us to the Middle East and Desert Storm. The bus I was on, was about the fourth or fifth bus in a line of many, waiting to unload the soldiers and board the 747. “The bus driver had his radio on.” When it came time for our bus to unload, we stood up, stepped into the aisle of the bus and headed slowly to the door to exit. As we were unloading, standing in the aisle, looking out the windows of the bus and staring at that 747, Lee Greenwood’s song “God Bless the U.S.A. came on. That was a moment in time I will never forget.

I was instantly moved to tears and regret so much that this wonderful song remain unknown beyond US borders. This song has always brought tears to my eyes even when I was in college in the 1980’s. My late Grandfather joined the navy at age 17 after Pearl Harbor-he did not have to go as his Mother had been widowed years prior. However he had the sense of duty & commitment to his God, Country, Flag and family. When 9-11 hit he was ready to join the military again and serve his country, but he was not happy as they would not take a 70+ year old. We need to hear this song everyday & hold it’s meaning deep in our hearts & beliefs. Our country is taking a direction that the silent majority does not want. We all have been so busy going to school, getting training, working hard & working our way up the corporate ladder, raising our families -that we have allowed a very vocal minority take over & lead us into a direction that makes our founding fathers rolling over in their graves. Every man, woman & child that has lost their life defending our freedoms that we are now allowing them to be altered from the original Bill of Rights & Constitution. I lost my father 13 years ago defending our beautiful country. In a way I am glad he is gone so he does not have to see what has happened in 2020-2021.
