I agree with you for real even I think what the heck are these lyrics when I actually read them. Only the producer is doing its job properly by making good beats and all. I'm editing cause I want everyone to know that singers are good but lyrics are kinda not to the par. Singers and producers are reason usually people let go lyrics and I know there are some exceptions like some do have very powerfull meaning behind lyrics. If you're listening to K-pop for long time you'll see not everyone get attention due to to good lyrics unless you're a group from a big company so they eventually write lyrics that are either childish or like dissing someone and this is the reason why mature adults of korea don't listen to K-pop. And there are some exceptions where one group/duo/soloist focuses on lyrics as well.

That's because for an global audience the lyrics doesn't really matter since most of us don't understand korean anyways. I’m really late to this, but I think that she’s absolutely right. For someone who’s not Korean it’s easier to listen to because I don’t know what they are saying at all so the only thing I can judge the music on is the melody, beat, voices etc. But for Koreans it’s probably harder to listen to because it seems the lyrics comes last in terms of order of importance and it sounds like a bunch of random words repeated over and over. That being said these groups all have songs that focus on the lyrics and the meaning. (BP’s Hope not and RV’s One of these nights come to mind bc I love those songs) so she’s not dissing the groups, she’s just not a fan of the “trendy” style of music that most of the writers tend to lean towards.

I can't agree enough. It explains a lot why majority of adults in Korea don't listen to KPOP while the rest of the world mostly only listen to KPOP (in terms of Korean music genre). The lyrics of most gg/bg songs are cringy and makes no sense. Non-koreans love it for the sake of its beats, Koreans want the lyrics to have meaning instead, so they're inclined to ballads. As a non korean who only listens to music with sensible lyrics, so far, I find BTS and DAY6 making impeccable music with phenomenal lyrics. And I believe it's because both group writes their own lyrics.

If you want to listen to more groups with deep lyrics, I highly recommend B.A.P. They already disbanded but they have a diverse choreography and the lyrics are simply mind-blowing, and they are the ones who introduced the hip hop genre to Kpop alongside Block B! Bang Yongguk, a member of the group who also produced a good majority of the group's songs, has, while a bit depressing at times, solo music with well thought out lyrics as well Epik High is another group where another lyrical genius is at work. Though they are more K-Hip Hop than Pop, so if this is your style too, please check them out amazarashi is a Japanese band with lyrics on another level in my opinion. A good majority of their lyrics are.. Rather dark though. Koveshel does great lyrics videos of their music and captures the meaning of lyrics well, which are sometimes a hassle to translate, not gonna lie Edit: corrected some mistakes

I remember Hyori was once asked in an interview who will be her successor and she replied : The junior singer who will take my place is IU. She will greatly surpass me with her special appeal.
